First of all, let me say what an honor it is to serve you as your Superintendent of Education. As weare nearing the end of our first nine weeks together, our school district continues to prove that weare “the absolute best school district in the entire state of Mississippi!” We are no longer surprised bythe innovation, creativity, brilliance, sensitivity, and overall care our educators have demonstratedthrough these challenging times. George County School District, you are the first administrators,teachers, custodians, child nutrition workers, bus drivers, and staff members to ever navigate thishistoric period.
AGAIN, PLEASE KNOW HOW VALUABLE EVERY STAFF MEMBER IS TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR DISTRICT!
The George County School District is so excited to get back to normalcy. A few things that are newfor our district are:
We cannot wait to share more information regarding these new ventures. Also, we are so excited toannounce Dr. Jennifer Mathis’s participation in the MSBA Prospective Superintendent LeadershipAcademy. This is an enormous honor for both Dr. Mathis and our district.
While there have been many challenges, we are so impressed by, and thankful for, your efforts andyour ingenuity. We still have work to do to continue to navigate through this unique era, but thethings you have learned, and the innovations you have pioneered, will never leave us. You areimplementing new practices that will last beyond Covid-19, and they will definitely benefit thestudents and stakeholders in the George County School District for many years to come.

George County Leadership Academy Dr. Jennifer Mathis, Director of Secondary Curriculum, is in charge of
this new venture! Our first ever Leadership Academy has launched,and you will certainly hear more about this...we currently have 17 staff
members in the year-long training class, and we are excited to seewhat their future holds. The future success of our district depends on
us growing our own leaders!
Mrs. Danielle Frey, Culinary ArtsInstructor, has been chosen to
mentor new teachers throughout thestate. Each summer, Mrs. Frey will be
teaching a week-long professionaldevelopment course for all of the newCulinary Arts teachers. Mrs. Frey will
be their mentor throughout theschool year as well.

The Learning Center is our newly renovated building that is located on our LC Hatcher campus. It has provided numerous
opportunities for our district to host events such as school boardmeetings, professional development functions, as well as the
meeting place for Parent Universities.

Read Aloud to a Child Week is a national, annual event meant toemphasize the importance of reading aloud to children and to
encourage families to participate. There is a large body of researchthat documents and confirms the benefits of reading aloud to
children. It may in fact be the most important activity that parentsshare with children to help them become strong readers. Reading
aloud builds a strong parent-child bond that can last a lifetime!Choose a book and commit to reading together for about twenty
minutes each night for the week of October 25th, 2020.
