Employee Spotlight: Jason Boling: Estimator / Project Manager
Jason Boling began working for Compton Construction
Corporation in August of 2013. He is originally from
the Denver, Colorado area. Jason is the 4th generation
of his family to be involved in the construction world.
He learned the trade from the ground up by helping his
father and grandfather in the family construction
business when not in school. He began as an apprentice,
became a Job Superintendent in the 1990’s and soon began estimating and managing
projects in and around the Denver area including a design-build project involving the
Denver schools. When not building, Jason enjoys activities with his wife Lucia and
his four children: Danny, Itzia, Alina and Xaria. In his spare time Jason enjoys
restoring 100 to 120 year old pot bellied stoves into working condition and spending
time with his wife and children.

Lincoln Elementary School

Demolition of North Elevation
Construction began October 1, 2013 on a
2,500 sq. ft. addition and remodel project
for two schools in USD 418, McPherson
Public Schools. The $5 million dollar
expansion project is located at Lincoln
Elementary School, 900 N. Ash and
Roosevelt Elementary School located at
800 S. Walnut. The two schools are a
mirror image of each other with Roosevelt
the largest elementary school in McPher-
son, KS with 350 K - 5 students. Each
new structure will contain four new
elementary classrooms, a cafeteria, a new
kitchen, a circulation space and a com-
mons area for students to gather. Both
projects have been slowed slightly due to
the winter weather. Despite the weather,
construction continues to progress at both
schools. They remain on pace to be com-
pleted for the start of school August of
2014. PBA Architects from Wichita, KS
designed this school project with Duane
Hickerson the architect. Jim Gehring was
the Estimator and Jason Boling is the Pro-
ject Manager. The Job Superintendent for
Lincoln Elementary School is Ed West
and the job Superintendent for the Roose-
velt Elementary project is David Spoon.

Great Bend Middle School Gym Addition USD #428: Great Bend, KS
The new gymnasium project at Great Bend Middle School was
completed in November of 2013. The $2.7 million dollar, 17,500 sq.
ft. facility includes a multipurpose gymnasium, wrestling room,
restrooms, and safe room. The safe rom is large enough to hold the
entire school population and staff members if severe weather should
occur. The pre-engineered metal building is covered in a brick
veneer. Architect for the project was Charlie Sexton of HTK
Architects located in Overland Park, KS. Gib Compton was the Esti-
mator/Project Manager. Steve Rotramel was the Job Superintendent.

Scholarships & Awards
The 37th annual Architectural Engineering and Construction Science Management Banquet
was held at the Clarion Hotel in Manhattan, KS on Friday, May 10, 2013. Kyle Mayer a grad-
uate of Shawnee Mission South and from Overland Park, KS is currently a Sophomore in the
Construction Science Management program. He plans to graduate during the Fall semester of
2016 after spending a semester studying abroad. His dream is to become a Project Manager or
Job Superintendent. Kyle is a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and Scholarship Chairman.
Other awards earned include the Academic All American by the National Swimming Coaches
Association and the MED ACT coin when working as a lifeguard he assisted in helping to save a man’s life.
2013 Gib & Brenda Compton Construction Science Scholarship
Compton Construction was recognized August 2013 by the American
Public Works Association (APWA) in a new category: Small Cities/
Rural Communities Projects of the Year. This award for agencies
from cities or counties with a population of 75,000 or less was
established to promote excellence in demonstration creativity,
ingenuity and efficiency in the delivery of public works project that
have profound impact on the community. In the area of Structures,
Kiowa County Commons earned this award. The owner is Kiowa County, KS. The consultant was Professional
Engineering Consultants, P.A. The general contractor was Compton Construction Corporation. It also won the AIA
Kansas Design award. Matt Cortez of GLMV architects was the lead architect for this project. Kiowa County
Commons was completed in July 2011 and dedicated Nov. 2012. It is a LEED Platinum level facility.

Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity House: Manhattan, KS
A new 50,400 sq. ft. multi-use training facility was completed August 2013 for Ft. Hays University. The Schmidt-
Bickle Indoor Training Facility includes a 65 yd. artificial turf practice field, batting cages, a 70 yd. three lane synthetic
track with jump pits. A 5,000 sq. ft. weight room, storage rooms and meeting rooms. The Architect for this
pre-engineered building was Charlie Sexton with HTK Architects of Topeka & Overland Park, KS. Gib Compton was
Estimator / Project Manager. Marty Kerr was Job Superintendent.

New construction was completed August 2013, on
the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity in time for the
men of Delta Theta to move in before the Fall
semester. The new facility was relocated to the
old parking lot to the east of the old structure. The
new building is a three story, steel framed struc-
ture with a two inch concrete topping on hollow
core floors. The exterior walls were built with
metal studs with a combination of stone and metal
panels. The house will have a full service
kitchen, dining hall, recreation room, library, four study rooms and a three story atrium
with an eye catching view overlooking campus and the city of Manhattan. Energy efficiency and sustainability
technology were used in the design by Mike Carson of Bowman Bowman Novick of Manhattan, KS. Gib Compton
was Estimator/Project Manager with David Spoon as Job Superintendent.

PrairieStar Health Center: Hutchinson, KS

Center to be relocat-

the NW corner of 30th
Avenue & 61 Highway in Hutchinson, KS. Prairie Star Health
Center is a non-profit Federal Qualified Health Center (FQHC). They health center provides comprehensive medical,
dental & eye services and laboratory services for the people of all ages in Reno County who are uninsured, underinsured
and the insured. The 31,250 sq. ft. facility will be a single story building with a structural steel frame, metal studs with
a synthetic stucco finish. The interior space will include exam rooms, offices, lab area, reception/patient waiting area
and an x-ray room. Site improvement will include concrete paving, a six foot vinyl fence and landscaping. Dan Link of
Landmark Architects, Hutchinson, KS designed this project. Gib Compton is the Estimator/Project Manager. Marty
Kerr is the Job Superintendent. A December 2014 completion date is scheduled.

KSU Alumni Center Obelisk: Manhattan, KS
Alumni approaching the K-State Alumni Center
from the East will now see a new concrete statue in
the shape of an obelisk. An anonymous donor
provided the funds to create the twenty-two foot
limestone structure. The statue is 30 square inches
at the bottom and 16 sq. inches at the top. It is
covered in honed limestone with Wildcat paw prints
sandblasted on the north and south sides of the
structure. The “K” will sit at the top of the obelisk
with metal art letters running down the East & West
sides. The design-build statue was designed by
Jones Gillam Renz Architects of Manhattan, KS has
been a collaborative project of several trades with
the metal art created by Dick Bergen of Salina, KS.
Gib Compton is Estimator/Project Manager.
Trinity Catholic Jr./Sr. High School Library Addition: Hutchinson, KS
Construction began October of 2013 on a 1,500 sq. ft. library addition for
the Trinity Catholic Junior High and High School located at 1400 E. 17th
Ave. Hutchinson, KS. Trinity is home to 275 students. The new addition
will merge the existing facility with the new. Pictured is the forty-eight
foot circumference glass front of the library with twenty foot masonry
towers providing accent to the unique architectural design. The project
also includes 1,500 sq. ft. of interior renovation. Dan Link of Landmark
Architects of Hutchinson, KS designed the project. Jason Boling is the
Estimator/Project Manager. Jason Rotramel and Dale Hillard are the Job

Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility: Wichita, KS

NCRA 2nd Floor Renovations: McPherson, KS
FAA Building Renovations: Wichita, KS
Renovations that will encompass the entire interior office space of the FAA building located at
1801 Airport Road, Wichita, KS will begin mid March. The building owned by the Wichita
Airport Authority is leased by the Federal Aviation Admiration (FAA). The 36,000 sq. ft. build-
ing will have a complete interior office facelift. Construction will be completed at night and on
weekends in controlled phases, sequenced in order that day-to-day operations will not be
disturbed. The project includes a complete mechanical system upgrade including replacing the
100 ton chiller in an extremely short period of time from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
Architect for this project is Rod Sondergard with Howard Helmer Architecture Wichita, KS.
Jim Gehring was the Estimator. Jason Boling is the Project Manager. Wayne Ostrom will be
the Job Superintendent. July 2014 is the scheduled completion date.
National Cooperative Refinery Association
(NCRA) of McPherson is a petroleum Refinery
and underground storage facility. It produces
85,000 barrels of petroleum/day. Renovations
have begun in the interior office space and confer-
ence rooms to convert them into a control room.
Work involves disassembling the conference room
architectural glass, cabinets and granite and modi-
fying the components to fit a new location. Kelly
McMurphy with Landmark Architects in
Hutchinson, KS is the project architect. Jason
Boling is the Estimator/Project Manager with
Jason Rotramel as Job Superintendent. The project
began Feb. 10th and will be completed May 2014.

Interior renovations of former offices
& conference rooms into a new
control room.
An 18 month long remodel project began at the Sedgwick
County Adult Detention building located at 141 East Elm began
on January 1, 2014 and is scheduled to be completed July of
2015. The main focus of the work involves updating the
security controls for the entire multi-story detention facility one
pod at a time. There are a total of 28 pods. The project also
includes a new master control center along with some
demolition, masonry work, new frames and doors, and flooring. Project Engineer
is Jeff Pronschinske of Arnold & O’Sheridan of Brookfield, WI. Architect is
Adam Kuehl of HMN Architects, Overland Park, KS. Owner of the facility is
Sedgwick County. Jim Gehring was the Estimator. Gib Compton is the Project
Manager working with Steve Rotramel as Job Superintendent.

K.S The nondenominational 400 sq. ft. wood frame
structure with stone veneer was completed in August of
2013. Bearden’s Stained Glass of Wichita
designed and made the stained glass placed
in three, two foot. x four foot exterior win-
dows. Vince Haines of PKHLS Architec-
ture located in El Dorado, KS was the archi-
tect for this project. Gib Compton was the
Estimator and Jason Boling was Project
Manager. Job Superintendent was Jason
Rotramel .
