St. Kilian Parish Almsgiving for Lent Corazón House Build

Saturday, April 8, 2017

For our Parish Almsgiving for Lent, St. Kilian Church will sponsor and build a house in Mexico for a family in need.

How can you get involved? • Make a donation by cash or check (payable to “St. Kilian” with “Corazón” on the

memo line). Your donation will help pay for the house we will build as well as to provide education and life skills training for youth and families in Mexico.

• Travel to Mexico to help build the house (limited to 50 people and requires a minimum donation of $25 per person to secure a spot). On-line registration required. Contact the Parish Office to place your name on the interest list.

Please contact Mary Mack in the Parish Center with any questions.

FROM FR. PAUL VU: Dear Friends in Christ,

Nearly six years ago, I went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land (the region today known as Israel and Palestine). It was my very first time and I didn't quite know what to expect. Friends and those who have already been to the Holy Land told me that the experience for them was life-changing. In par-ticular, it made their reading of the gospels more real. The Sea of Galilee, the Mount of Beatitudes, the Birthplace of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem, the City of Jerusalem, etc., all these places the gospels refer to "came alive" for them.

After having completed the pilgrimage myself, I can definitely say that the experience was the same for me. It helped me put into perspective the places the gospels make reference to as Jesus jour-neyed from town to town proclaiming the message of the Kingdom. Doing the way of the cross, for example, on the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem helped me to visualize the passion of Christ on the same road he traveled to the Cross on Calvary Hill. It truly was a unique and life-changing experience for me--particularly because I was finishing up my final months of preparation for Ordination to the Priesthood.

On September 5-15, 2017, I am planning a pilgrimage for our Parish to the Holy Land. Please join me in this amazing experience where the Holy Land, which the scriptures refer to, come alive. My hope is that it will be a life-changing experience for you as well. Prior to our travels, I will put together a four session mini course on the Holy Land in August 2017 (details will come later). This will help orient us as we prepare for the journey.

Peace and blessings, Fr. Paul H. Vu

Good Samaritan Ministry

Here at St. Kilian, we have a number of

parishioners, most of them seniors, who no longer drive, and are in need of a ride to Mass on the

weekends, an occasional ride to a doctor appointment or a ride to go food shopping, etc. Our

Ministry provides these rides rather than having them dependent on a taxi system that isn’t

quite as personal.

If you know of anyone in our Parish in need of this assistance, please call Tonya and Dennis Ferry

at (949)768-1675. If you would like to join us in this Ministry, we’d love to have you with us. A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is

required.

Again, please call Tonya and Dennis at the number above.

Thank You!

Parish Nurse Maria Claudio

Please call the Parish Center at (949)586-4440 and leave a message for Maria. She will return your call

and is available to help you find referrals, offer you support with your

health care needs and provide spiritual care.

Please note:

• There will be NO MINISTRY MEETINGS during our Lenten Mission, March 20-22.

• There will be NO CONFESSIONS on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 due to the Lenten Mission.

• Fr. Dave will be celebrating the 9 am Mass on March 20, 21, and 22 and will be available following Mass each day for reconciliation.

• The Mission talks will only be held in the evenings at 7 p.m. There will be no morning sessions.

From Fr. Pat’s Ash Wednesday Homily: Lent should be more than a time of fasting. It

should also be a joyous season of feasting. Lent is a time to fast from certain things and to

feast on others. It is a season in which we should:

Fast from judging others; feast on Christ dwelling in them. Fast from emphasis on differences; feast on the unity of all life. Fast from thoughts of illness; feast on the healing power of God. Fast from words that destroy; feast on phrases that encourage. Fast from discontent; feast on gratitude. Fast from anger; feast on patience. Fast from pessimism; feast on optimism. Fast from complaining; feast on appreciation. Fast from unrelenting pressures; feast on unceasing prayer. Fast from hostility; feast on peacemaking. Fast from bitterness; feast on forgiveness. Fast from self-concern; feast on compassion for others. Fast from disrespect; feast on recognizing the sacredness of all life. Feast from despair; feast on hope. Fast from lethargy; feast on enthusiasm. Fast from constant activity; feast on slowing down. Fast from shadows of sorrow; feast on the sunlight of serenity. Fast from idle gossip; feast on purposeful silence. Fast from worry; feast on trust in God.
