As the November 2ndGeneral Election date gets closerthere are some important dates andinformation to keep in mind. Thelast day to register to vote isOctober 4th, just two weeks away. To find out if you are registered tovote, you can do so on the TexasSecretary of State's website,www.sos.state.tx.us . If you wish totake advantage of early voting, youcan do so between October 18-28 inperson at any of the locallydesignated polling locations.

For those of you who wish to votethrough a mail- in bal lot ,applications must be received by theEarly Voting Clerk no later thanOctober 26th. The requirementsfor mail-in ballots are as follows –1) an individual must be 65 years orolder on Election Day, 2) out of thecounty on Election Day and duringEarly Voting, 3) sick or disabled or4) confined in jail but eligible tovote.

For information onwhere to vote, you may contact theelections administrator in yourcounty to find out the location ofyour polling place. During the earlyvoting period, you can vote at anyearly voting site within the county. On Election Day you must vote inthe precinct where you areregistered. Following new rules put in place bythe Texas Secretary of State,military and overseas voters arenow able to request that blankballoting materials for theNovember 2nd general election besent to them by email. “A largenumber of our United StatesMilitary Forces call Texas home. Itis of upmost importance to me andmy office that these brave men andwomen have the opportunity toparticipate in our nation’sdemocratic process … and Iencourage our military andoverseas voters to take advantage ofthese new s imple vo t ingprocedures” said SecretaryAndrade. In accordance with theMilitary and Overseas Voter

Empowerment (MOVE) Act, theState of Texas has adopted newadministrative rules that make iteasier for military and overseasvoters to access the absentee votingprocess. Included are provisionswhich allow military servicemembers temporarily residingoutside their county of residence, aswell as United States citizensresiding overseas, to request blankballoting materials to be sent tothem by email as well as theestablishment of a ballot trackingsystem allowing military andoverseas voters to determine thestatus of their ballot. For moreinformation, voters may visit theFederal Voting Assistance Program(FVAP) at www.fvap.gov or callFVAP at 1-800-438-VOTE (8683).

Due to the Columbus DayHoliday on October 11th, there willbe a change in our regular schedulefor the staffing of the Port Lavacaand Rockport Offices for the monthof October. The Rockport Officewill be open and staffed on Monday,October 4th. The Port LavacaOffice will be open and staffed onTuesday, October 5th. State Senator Craig Estes and State Rep. Allan Ritter to speak on groundwaterownership at cattle raiser fall meeting

Fort Worth, Texas - Cattle raisers from across the state will gather in Austin, Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, for the annual Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Fall Meeting. The meeting will take place at the Omni Austin Hotel in downtown Austin, Texas. Ranchers and landowners from across the state will gather for educational breakout sessions, networking and fellowship with fellow cattle raisers. The breakout sessions, hosted by TSCRA committees, begin Thursday, Sept. 30, and will cover a variety of topics critical to Texas cattle producers and landowners.
