For majority of students pursuing a college degree, internship is important from both career point of view as well as from the academic angle. After completion of few semesters or before the last semester, students are required to do internships, so as to get them acquainted with the industry and get an idea of how the actual corporate world functions. An internship is an opportunity which a company or an employer offers to eligible candidates, called interns, in which they are asked to perform a variety of tasks related to their area of expertise. At the end of the internship, a certicate is provided to the intern, with a detailed description of his performance as future prospective. Most of the companies also provide a stipend, which is a xed amount of money which the intern receives for working with them. Most of the internships last for any length of time between four week and 2 months. Here are just a few reasons why internships are investments in your future:1) Real World Experience: Joining a company as an

intern gives you the opportunity to work hands on in a professional environment. As an intern you're not just there to get coffee or run errands but you're there to gain actual work experience. Internships help by teaching you more about the career path you are pursuing. Think of it like this – internships are a way to test drive possible jobs and explore different career options.

    2) Networking: Internships often give you the opportunity to attend meetings and events. By interacting with professionals you gain new connections and learn how to communicate in a professional environment. Personally, my internships have introduced me to a lot of useful resources and have given me the opportunity to meet a variety of professionals in my eld. Networking has helped me acquire references and nd new job opportunities. Internships can even provide you with a professional mentor.

    3) Resume Builder: As a college student I know the importance of a strong resume. Without a solid resume it can be tougher to be considered for a position. And how can you have a strong resume, without any experience, Internships are key to building experience as a student or recent graduate. Employers are much more likely to hire someone with internships and work experience rather than someone with a generic resume, lacking experience.

    5) Career Foundation: Internships provide you with the building blocks you need for your future. Many internship opportunities help set the foundation for your career. It is important that you choose you internships based on your interests and career prospects. As an intern you have the opportunity to get your foot in the door with a company. Keep in mind, employers often use internships as a recruitment tool to test out future employees and in many cases, companies hire interns after graduation.

Internships are great tools to improve your chances as a job applicant and help make you a better potential employee. So make the investment in your career and look into becoming an intern.

Film Director at Incredible EighteenTravails of Old AgeAnit Mukerjea: Recently, the premiere of the Bengali lm Shesh Chithi took place at the Basusree cinema in South Kolkata where it was screened. The lm deals with the travails of old age and the generation gap of the senior citizens and the problems they face with the younger generation. Though the story idea was good, the p o o r d u b b i n g a n d substandard visuals marred the flow of the lm. ‘Yours sincerely’ was also slotted in a bit role as the suave businessman. Though the acting skills of Soumitro Chatterjee, Lily Chakraorty, Mouboni Sarkar was quite professional, they somehow could not make up for the weak treatment that was basically the director’s flaw.

    New Bengali Film to Be Released in JuneAnit Mukerjea: Ara’s Vision product ion and R e s h m i B a n e r j e e ’ s presentation of the Bengali feature lm Meye Manush is e x p e c t e d t o b e commercial ly re leased sometime in June this year. Based on the story idea, screenplay and direction by Raja Banerjee, the casting r o p e s i n S o u m i t r o C h a t t e r j e e , L i l y Chakrabor ty, B iswaj i t C h a k r a b o r t y , R a t n a Ghoshal, Moumita Gupta, Sujan Mukherjee, Chanchal Ghosh, Sanjib Sarkar, Piyali Adhikari, Somashree Das and child artiste Aratrika Banerjee and others. The l m d e a l s w i t h t h e exploitation of women in today's society as disposable c o m m o d i t y w i t h a n underlying message that women too are human beings and should be treated as one.

Delicacies of North IndiaAnit Mukerjea: Foodies m a y n o w s a v o u r t h e authentic delicacies of North India as The Astor Hotel at Shakespeare Sarani, redenes the royal flavours and culinary heritage of Awadi cuisine. The Kebab-a-Que is all set to tickle your taste buds with a blend of delicacies from the land of Nizams and the authentic Mughlai preparations while you enjoy soulful ghazal performances. Anit Mukerjea: The new millennium seems to bring about incredible, dramatic changes to the extent that there is no age bar extending to even minors, showcasing skills at feature lmmaking. Going by a recent English lm, ‘Unsaid’, screened recently at Nandan, gave ample evidence of a young minor, eighteen-year old l m d i r e c t o r , A r n a b Chatterjee, marking his debut vehicle which had received a total of thirty-one awards from abroad. The lm, dealing with the frolics and follies of a group of four teenagers, are closely bonded to each o t h e r. H o w e v e r , t h i s bond ing and i n t ima t e friendship climaxes in tragedy, with the death of Raghav the character which, takes centre-stage of the story. The shock of his demise leaves a deep impact on his close friends with

c e r t a i n e m o t i o n s unexpressed and unsaid, from where the title is derived. Though a bit raw and immature in some sequences, the shortcoming may be condoned given the mindset of a minor, who is yet to learn the ropes. The casting engages all new-comers, namely, Rohan Basu as Raghav, Adnan Hassan as Arjun, Krishangi Ghai as Akira, and Srijan Chakrabarty as Angad. Chatterjee at the tender age of eighteen, received bouquets of praises from m e m b e r s o f p a c k e d audience. Making his debut as a short lm maker earlier while still studying at La Martiniere school; Arnab with his maiden vehicle Unsaid is all set to take up the challenge of lmmaking as a career to inspire more youngsters like himself to take a keen interest in the genre.
