WALHALLA CIVIC CHORALE NEWS The Walhalla Civic Chorale is looking to present a Community Christmas Choral Concert on

Saturday, December 21, at 7:00 PM at the Civic Auditorium. Rehearsals are planned for Thursday evenings beginning November 7 through December 19 (excluding Thanksgiving Day,

November 28). We need to know if we have enough participation to order to proceed with these plans. If you are interested in being a part of the choir, please contact Ray. We would

DROP-IN BABY SHOWER FOR AMANDA BANNISTER

There will be a church-wide drop-in baby shower for Amanda Bannister, (former Minister of Students at CSBC) on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2:00—4:00 p.m. in the CSBC Dining Room. The shower is being hosted

by the R.E.A.C.H. Sunday School Class. Amanda is register at Babies R Us and at Wal-Mart.

Seventh Annual Safe House Youth Center Car Show

November 2, 2013

The Seventh Annual Safe House Youth Center Car Show to benefit the ongoing development of an Oconee County Youth Cener will be held on Saturday, November 2nd in the Save-A-Lot grocery parking lot at the junction of Highway 11 and Highway 28 in West Union, SC. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the show will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The show entry fee is $10 and is open to Chevy Classic, Chevy Street Rod, Chevy Muscle, Ford Classic, Ford Street Rod, Ford Muscle, Other Classic, Other Street Rod, Other Muscle, Truck, Foreign, Late Model, Unfinished, 4 X 4, Race/rail, Rear Engine and Motorcycle vehicles. There will be participant dash plaques, door prizes, trophies, food and music. Last year’s show include about 100 entrants and vendors as well as the cars of Youth Center members. There is no charge for the general public, but donations will be accepted for the Youth Center. Local businesses and individuals have been very generous in supporting the car show, and a great turnout is expected for this year’s event. Tyler Wilkie is the Executive Director of Team Walhalla/safe House Ministries, a non-profit organization, and has felt the call to do something positive for Oconee County youth since before grading from college. Presently four (4) activities are occurring reaching about 80 youth per week. Safe House Youth Center is located in the old Piedmont Quilting building on South Laurel Street in Walhalla. All profits from previous car shows and spring golf tourna-ments have been used to get portions of the building up to code and for ministry opportu-nities presented to Safe House. CSBC GROUNDS WORKDAY There will be a workday to complete the outdoor grounds project scheduled by our Grounds Committee on Saturday, October 26th at 8:00 a.m. Plan to join us as we finish our recent project in beautification of the church grounds. Children & Youth Ministries

Someone once said that there are two ways we can live our lives. We can focus on Jesus and acknowledge the storms in our lives, or we can focus on the storms and acknowledge Jesus. These options may sound very similar, but they are vastly different. Focusing on the storms keeps us lost in the problems we are facing, but when we focus on Jesus we are able to rise above the circumstances in our lives and see them from a different perspective. Focusing on Jesus is what allows us to live with the joy of the Lord when others seem to be weighed down by present circumstances. The life of the Apostle Peter is one that encourages me and Peter is a great example of this principle. In the midst of a storm, Jesus told Peter he could get out of the boat and walk on the water. Peter was able to do this miracle because his focus was on Jesus, but when Peter took his eyes off the Lord and began to focus on the storm around him, he began to sink. The same thing can happen to each of us in our own lives. Focusing on the problems makes them appear so big that our circumstances can begin to seem overwhelming. However, focusing on Jesus has the opposite effect and puts our problems in the right perspective. We know they are there, but we know Christ is bigger. So, in Peter’s own words, “In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” (1 Peter 1:6-7) Grace, Mercy, and Peace, Tim P.S. Please help out as you are able; we are going to have a great time of fun and many opportunities to meet new people from our community and introduce them to Jesus!

PRISONER PACKETS Prisoner packets are given to prisoners in our state to show Christ’s love.

We ask that you make a contribution of $10.00 for purchase of supplies for these packets. The items requested are very restricted as to content. It is much easier to collect the money and then one person make the necessary

purchases to complete each packet. We only had eight (8) packets to deliver to Beaverdam Association last year. Please consider this in your Sunday School class or small group or as a family. “…..I was a prisoner and you visited me”. This is a way to minister to prisoners by demonstrating Christ’s love to them

through your gifts. Maybe this is what will turn even one prisoner to the love of Jesus through you and your gift. Your contribution may be given to Debbie

Rukat or dropped off by the office.

WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER WMU will sponsor Women’s World Day of Prayer on November 4th at 6:00 p.m. at

College Street Baptist Church. This is a day when women world-wide have a day of prayer to pray for women and missions the world over. This is not for WMU, but for

God’s Women. Please come and be God’s woman with a love for God and missions; join us in prayer for women around the world.
