Easter’s Never Over
and
Neither is the Journey
One thing I missed last month were some of our family Easter traditions. For many years Easter day included four things: hidden baskets, an egg hunt, great food, and a walk, to recover from the great food. Oh, there was another Easter tradition: putting it all away! That makes me wonder: if Easter is over, what’s next for Christian disciples? The answer is simple. Living by faith! What is not always simple is actually “living by faith in Christ!” In one of his shortest sentences, the Apostle Paul wrote,
For we live by faith, not by sight.
(2 Corinthians 5:7)
What does it mean to live by faith? Is it the oppo-site of what we see with our eyes? I don’t think so. Faith does not ignore what our eyes see, our ears hear, and what our mind thinks. But
faith is also more than these; it enables our eyes, ears, and minds to comprehend things that would otherwise remain hidden or ignored. C.S. Lewis wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”

The Presbyterian Church
of Prospect is
a Confessing Church.
What is a Confessing Presbyterian Church? It is a church which announces to the world that it be-
lieves in:
1. Jesus Christ as the Lord of all and
the only way of salvation.
2. The Bible as the only certain guide
to faith and life.
3. God’s call to his people to live a holy life in every aspect, as the Bible defines that life.

We will partner with local churches and commu-nity organizations to journey towards believing that God is in control. We will help one another witness their faith by striving to grow in unity through regular listening, dwelling in the word, prayer, and Bible stud-ies, so we may help people see God’s work in daily social issues.

I once heard that we live by faith every time we flip on an electrical switch or get on a plane because we rely on something we don’t fully understand (electricity) and we entrust ourselves to something we don’t control (the airplane). This may be a glimpse of what living faith is but the type of faith described in the Bible is much more specific. Faith is a kind of leaning.
There are times when we need someone or something to lean on. Faith trusts enough to rely on God. But unlike a handrail, a cane, or someone’s arm, Christian faith isn’t now and then; it’s something we need and use always.
The Scriptures connect faith and life. Since God is the author of life, faith is tied closely to following and leaning on God. Since God can’t be handled or owned, like a walker or hiking stick, faith is first of all a gift from our Heavenly Father, and it is also unpredictably alive. Our physical eyes and ears connect us to everything and everyone around us. In a similar way, faith in Jesus connects us to the fullness of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Bible is the story of faith, received and rejected, lived and neglected.

Through the witness of God’s written Word, our faith is directed, deep-ened, and developed inside each of us, in a unique way. Faith touches every part of us, and it affects every relationship we’re in; if we are willing to live by it.
Like the Hebrews following Moses in the wilderness or the disciples traveling with Jesus, we are in a faith journey together. Each one of us contributes to the journey, and each one of us has the potential to take away from it as well. Our personal walks with Christ affect the journeys of other Christians. The faith walks of our brothers and sisters in Christ also impact us individually. That is why living in Christ, individually and together, forms a powerful witness of the Trinity. The love between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the manner in which they show that love to one another is the love we are learning as I/we walk by faith together.
The journey is not limited to a particular day in April or to a particular program or event. Each Sunday we celebrate living by faith in worship and we practice living by faith through friendships, our fellowship with one another, and in service to those around us. Faith is living and, by the Holy Spirit, it keeps us alive. —Pastor Steve

Maybe You Can Help
Two friends of our congregation are in need. Debbie Bush and Geraldine Bauer are each hoping to purchase a vehicle so they no longer have to rely on the kindness of others to get them to and from the store, doctor’s appoint-
ments, and to visit friends and family. Their circumstances make it impossible for them to afford a vehicle so they are pursuing a crea-tive alternative. Thanks to one of the more positive opportunities on the Internet, Debbie and Gerry have each set up online fund-raising sites. These are reputable and well-used avenues for peo-ple with legitimate needs who seek support from others in order to make their dreams into reality. If you would like to know more about Debbie’s and Gerry’s situations and how to support their ef-forts, please go to the website addresses listed below. Thank you.

Who are we? There are many answers to that question. We have many things in common that identify us and there are things about us that show how we are different. Our names set us apart too. Jesus has a name for his people: “disciples.” More than just the “Twelve Disciples,” this name is given to all of his followers. This month we will look at how disciples are God’s Church.
May 7 Disciple: Who Am I? Acts 11:26
May 14 Disciple: Who Is My Teacher? John 8:31-36
May 21 Disciple: What do I do? Matthew 14:14-21
May 28 Disciple: How do we do it? Acts 9:1-25

YOU SAY YOU KNOW THE BIBLE!!!
There are names of 16 books of the Bible in the paragraph below. See how many you can find. A minister found 15 books in 20 minutes, but it took him 2 weeks to find the 16th.
I once made a remark about hidden books of the
Bible. It was a lulu: kept people looking so hard for facts…
and for others it was a revelation. Some were in a jam,
especially since the names of the books were not
capitalized. But the truth finally struck home to numbers of
our readers. To others it was a real job. We want it to be a
most fascinating few moments for you. Yes, there will be
some really easy ones to spot. Others may require judges
to help them. I will quickly admit it usually takes a minister
to find them, and there will be loud lamentations when it is
found. A little lady says she brews a cup of tea so she can
concentrate better. See how well you can compete. Relax
now, for there really are sixteen names of the books of the
Bible in this paragraph.

PRESCHOOL NEWS It is hard to believe our school year is winding down already. We are looking forward to finishing up our time together with fun classroom activities, field trips, ice cream sundaes and our all-school picnic.
We would like to say a big “Thank You” to all those who worked so hard to make Preschool Sunday such an enjoyable time. Twenty three of our students came to church on April 23 to sing during the worship service. Over 125 family members joined us that day for the service and many of them stayed for the wonderful lunch afterward. It was a great time of fellowship! We are truly blessed with an amazing church family here at our school.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our preschool Moms. We are so very grateful that you have chosen to share your little ones with us. They are a true blessing in our lives!
We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable summer! See you in the fall!
