The St George weather could not be better, the trees are beginning to green, and the joyful sounds of chil-dren playing can be heard in our parks. It’s a good time to get out and about within the community. As you enjoy the fun, allow me to entice you to join us at the library with a few of our celebrations.

April 12, 2014 is National D. E. A. R. Day (Drop Every-thing and Read). It’s a special day to celebrate reading with the intent to remind and encourage families to make reading together on a daily basis a family prior-ity. So drop the remote and the video game control-lers, put down the phones, and celebrate with us by reading together. Are you stressed? Go read a book!

April 13 – 19, 2014 is National Library Week. Have you ever wondered if the library had a birthday? Library Employee of the Month

-Grace Mann,St. George Library

ewey Lewis & The Movie NewsD

There are lot’s of fun events happening in April! Celebrate Money Smart Week April 5-12, National Library Week April 13-19, Easter on April 20th, Earth Day on April 22nd, and nish up the In n’ Out Burger Reading Chal-lenge by April 12th!

When nurturing your little readers, commenting on actions or events is a great way to give children examples of how to use language in everyday routines. Provide your child with books and a reading light, and let them read in bed.

This month, the Library brings you the letter “I”! Find books by authors whose last name starts with the letter “I”. Easy book and Picture book readers can try books by these authors: Ichikawa, Inkpen, Inches, Imal, Irbenskas, Isadora, and Ives.

Chapter book readers can try books by: Ibbotson, Indiana, Innocenti, Intrater, Irving, Isaacs, and Ines.

I wi l l b id you farewel l with a joke I found in Apr i l ‘s Highlights Magazine - “Knock, knock.” “Who’s there?” “Olive.” “Olive who?” “Olive you so much!”Happy reading!

Congratulations to Gloria Larson of the Washington Library for being February’s Washington County Library System’s Employee of the Month!

Gloria is enthusiastic and energetic, and does an excellent job as a Children’s Librarian. Her organizational skills and self motivation are always evident, and recently she stepped beyond her normal duties and nished organizing and clearing the storage areas in the Washington Branch library.

We would like oer a heartfelt thank you and congratulations to Gloria for being the Library Employee of the Month!

Gloria Larson receives her award from Library Director Joel Tucker.

‘Wadjda’ (2012) is the Foreign Film Club’s movie pick for April. This drama from Saudi Arabia is about Wadjda, an enterpris-ing Saudi girl who signs on for her school’s Koran recitation competition as a way to raise money in order to buy the green bicycle that has captured her interest. There is much more to this lm as Wadjda’s plans become thwarted when she is caught running various schemes at school.

Filmed in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, this award winning lm (18 awards, including the Los Angeles Film Festival, and 17 nominations) will be one that will be talked about for a long time. But don’t take the critics word for it; check it out for your-self from your library.

The Foreign Film Club meets the rst Monday of every month at 5:00 in the Community Room at the Santa Clara Library. Come and join the discussion of this wonderful lm. See you there!

For more information, contact Pam Zaferes at the Santa Clara Library (435-986-0432, ext 2411)
