Marian Hirsch is a full time professional artist, and devotes time to on-location painting, capturing the ever-changing color and mood of the world we live in. Working in a variety of media - watercolor, oil, pastel and gouache – these plein air studies provide the foundation for her color rich pastel landscapes, which are composed and created in her studio.

Outdoor, the quick changes of light and the restraints of weather and time demand that the essence of a scene is captured quickly in paint and pigment. This skill has come from many dedicated hours of paint-ing, studying and observation. The artist is a signa-ture member of the Pastel Society of America, Asso-ciated Creative Artists and Pastel Society of the Southwest.

Her work is included in numerous corporate collec-tions such as Ford Motor Company, AT&T, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Merrill Lynch, Lucent Technologies, Cap Gemini, Ernst & Young, Dallas Business Journal and Verizon Wireless. Her work has been published in Artist's Magazine, American Artist, International Artist Magazine and the Pastel Journal. She is included in the book 200 Great Painting Ideas for Artists by North Light Books. A speaker at the 2001 Interna-tional Association of Pastel Societies conference, she also demonstrates for local art groups sharing her working methods.

What was particularly instruc-tional about her demonstration was her consciousness of composition and value as she painted. After a few strokes, she would step back several yards to observe what she had just applied to the canvas. That would help her to decide on what adjustments needed to be made and what the next step was to be taken.

She tries not to “overpaint.” Becky Parks paints in her own unique style. Her love of the French countryside appears in her paintings.
