It is a new and exciting way of offering Vacation Bible School. Let me tell you about Family Bible Camp and invite you to be involved in a very special week. Family Bible Camp is for families. It is not just for children, but for the entire family to participate together. We believe that when families move through the experience of Family Bible Camp together, then the learning can continue far beyond the hours spent in the church building. Our hope is that we will give parents some tools to use with their children to help them grow in the faith. That is the big difference from Vacation Bible School. VBS was for children, but Family Bible Camp is for the entire family. Parents get to have fun and learn together with their children. Because the focus is for families to learn together, we need for the Family Bible Camp to be at night when the entire family can be together. We will begin on Sunday night, June 9, and meet from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Families will move through different scenes in Athens, experiencing the lessons from the Bible. I look forward to seeing you as you come to meet Paul. Family Bible Camp will run Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. Thursday night, June 13, will be a final celebration that includes a dinner and special program for the entire church family. I encourage all families with children to go to our church web site (www.fbchsv.org) to register for Family Bible Camp. I also invite church members who would like to help with Family Bible Camp to contact Joy Moore or Cindy Russell to volunteer. One more thing – will you invite your friends to attend the Family Bible Camp or the final celebration night? Everyone is welcome. Finally, let me mention that this new schedule will have an impact on our regular church schedule during the week of Family Bible Camp. On Sunday night, June 9 there will be no evening worship because of the beginning night of the Family Bible Camp. Then on Wednesday night, June 12, we will not have our regular Fellowship Supper, Prayer Meeting, or Music rehearsals because of Family Bible Camp. We encourage everyone to join us for dinner on the next night as we have the final celebration service for the Bible Camp. I am grateful to our Childhood Ministries staff and volunteers who are leading us to experience a new approach to spiritual growth. Will you join in on the learning and fun?

Welcome New Interns! FBC is pleased to introduce these three Ministry Interns who will serve over the summer months and one Student

Ministry Resident who will serve for twelve months beginning July 1.

Student Ministry Intern (May 22, 2013- August 6, 2013)

the summer student Ministry intern is Fabiani Duarte. Many already know Fabiani. he has been singing in the sanctuary Choir since 2011. huntsville is home for him where he grew up before attending Vanderbilt for college. this fall will bring a new venture for Fabiani when he will begin seminary at McAfee school of theology (Mercer u) and law school at Mercer Law school. Plus, he lives really close - just across governors from the church! Welcome Fabiani!

Children Ministry Intern (June 2, 2013- August 9, 2013)

Originally from Clarksville, TN, Tyler Boone is a current graduate student at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and an alumnus of Union University in Jackson, TN. He has served in various positions within children’s ministry, including three summers at Centri-kid. his heart is for kids to come into a relationship with god and to grow in him, and tyler is excited about the opportunity to do that this summer here at FBC.

Music Ministry Intern (June 23, 2013- August 16, 2013)

rick Watts is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Church Music and a Master of Divinity from truett seminary in Waco, texas. in addition to his studies, he serves as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, Jewett. originally from Dunwoody, georgia, rick attended samford university, earning a Bachelor of Music in Church Music. While there, he sang in the A Cappella choir, played trumpet in the Marching Band, and served as Music Ministry intern at shades Crest Baptist Church. We welcome rick and his wife, Paige.

Student Ministry Resident (July 1, 2013- June 30, 2014)

My name is Andrew shaffer, call me either, neither, or some combination of the two. i’m a huge nerd, i love Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and just about anything C.s. Lewis has written. i jump at any chance to get out and get dirty and I’ve been to so many camps I think they might be part of my DNA. I was born long ago in Wichita Falls, Texas and have lived in starkville, Atlanta, and Waco, but i grew up mostly in Birmingham. i grew up an Auburn fan (War Eagle!) but i went to Mississippi state for my undergrad (go Bulldogs!), and then to samford to study Environmental Management. While there i worked at the Birmingham Zoo, where i was bitten in the face by a kestrel and almost lost a finger to an otter, which I trained. I almost literally grew up in church, since my Granddad was the Minister of Music i was that kid that was always around for everything. As long as i can remember i knew about Jesus and that he wanted me to be good, but it wasn’t until i entered the youth group that i began to learn what it means to be a disciple,

and i learn more every day. i visited truett in the middle of my own efforts to prove i wasn’t cut out for ministry and discovered it really was where I was supposed to be, and I now find myself a proud graduate of Truett Seminary at Baylor University (Sic ‘Em!). Although I’ve been involved with youth ministry in one way or another since i graduated high school, i ended up with a missions concentration, because in my opinion if we’re going to be authentic disciples missional living is a given. Like i said, i learn more about what that really means every day, and now that all-nighters studying for killer exams and giant papers are behind me i can’t get enough of it.

Family Dedicationthe Family of First Baptist Church celebrates the gift of children. it is our desire to encourage parents as they establish a spiritual foundation for their child. One of the first faith events in doing this is to participate in a Family Dedication service.

our next Family Dedication service will be on Father’s Day, June 16. Letters have been mailed to those enrolled in sunday school but if you or someone you know would be interested in being a part of this event, we would welcome their participation.

in order to participate, we require parents to come to a parenting class to discuss the meaning of the service and explain what to expect. the parenting class is offered at 2 times with childcare available at each time. Please call the Childhood Ministries office at 256-428-9411 to secure your place in the class of your choice. The times are: sunday, June 2 at 5:00 p.m. or Wednesday, June 5 at 6:00 p.m. Both of the classes will be held in the Administrative suite of the church in the small Conference room.

thank you, church family, for your support of young families. We depend on you to provide teachers, worship care providers, choir leaders, missions leaders, and prayer warriors for them as they seek to follow god’s word in parenting their children.

First thoughtsDavid hull, Pastor

Do you know what Family Bible Camp is? it is a new and exciting way of offering Vacation Bible school. Let me tell you about Family Bible Camp and invite you to be involved in a very special week.

Family Bible Camp is for families. it is not just for children, but for the entire family to participate together. We believe that when families move through the experience of Family Bible Camp together, then the learning can continue far beyond the hours spent in the church building. our hope is that we will give parents some tools to use with their children to help them grow

in the faith. that is the big difference from Vacation Bible school.
