Just think about it. Thirty years ago I did not have a cell phone, had never heard of the Internet, and did not even have cable television. Just think of what has happened during these last three decades! Our church began a wonderful tradition in 1984. First Baptist Church on Governors Drive began to worship together with First Missionary Baptist Church on Blue Spring Road. The first meeting took place in our Sanctuary and was held on the last Sunday of February. It was Race Relations Sunday, and Dr. Julius Scruggs preached and the choir from First Missionary Baptist sang. Later, Dr. Langley preached and our choir sang as we went to worship in their building. A wonderful tradition was born and continues to this day. This month marks the thirtieth February that our two churches have come together for worship. Dr. Scruggs continues as the outstanding Pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church and I am the fourth Pastor of First Baptist on Governors Drive to have the privilege to preach in the pulpit of that great church. Sunday night you have the opportunity to take part in this wonderful worship experience. We will worship in the Sanctuary of First Missionary Baptist Church on Blue Spring Road. Pre- service music begins with our Orchestra playing at 6:15 p.m. and worship will start at 6:30 p.m. I will preach and our Sanctuary Choir will sing. Worship will be followed by a rich time of fellowship for all. I hope that you will be able to join us for this special worship service on Sunday night. Last year I quoted the delighful words that Ralph Langley wrote in The Messenger the week before the first worship service in 1984. Since this is our thirtieth February to worship together, let me echo them again: We should all be all-blessed-up by this cordial exchange. I hope you will help us by your prayers/participation/ and particularly your GOOD WILL. Please be supportive and encouraging. And O you will be blessed! That’s a promise. Well said, Ralph! thirty years is a long time. Just think about it. thirty years ago i did not have a cell phone, had never heard of the internet, and did not even have cable television. Just think of what has happened during these last three decades!

from First Missionary Baptist sang. Later, Dr. Langley preached and our choir sang as we went to worship in their building. A wonderful tradition was born and continues to this day. this month marks the thirtieth February that our two churches have come together for worship. Ash Wednesday WorshipFebruary 13, Noon, in the Chapel

The sixth Chapter of the Gospel of John is the longest chapter in this great Gospel. The entire chapter develops the theme of Jesus being the Bread of Life who came down from

heaven as a gift for us. Even greater than the manna in the Old Testament which was known as the Bread of Heaven, Jesus offers eternal life to us if we will be nourished by this Bread. During Lent and Easter we will focus upon John 6 as we worship on Sunday

mornings and eat of this Bread of Heaven.

the FBC orchestra and Men’s Ensemble will present a mini-concert at 6:15 p.m. prior to the worship service. the FBC sanctuary Choir and orchestra will perform. Worship service will begin at 6:30 p.m. with David hull preaching.
