EXALTED RULER’S MESSAGE

Greetings Fellow Elks and Friends,

Welcome to the official start of summer and the start of a very busy

season at our lodge.

I would like to thank Brian, Amanda, officers, and the house crew for a very

nice Mother’s Day Service and brunch. I would also like to thank the mem-

bers who marched in the Memorial Day Parade in Point Pleasant Beach. As

pictured on the left, Nancy DeVito and I placed a wreath at the memorial.

Thank you also to the members who went to the service in Point Pleasant

Borough .

I look forward to seeing everyone who will be attending the convention in

Wildwood the first weekend in June and thanks go out to Amanda for run-

ning the convention.

Our lodge will be honoring Joe Abradi, Gus Adamo, John Kaufman, and Gus Schipani with a Testimonial Dinner on June 13th from

5-9 pm. These members have at least 34 years of service, have been on numerous committees, and continue to support our

lodge. See bartenders for tickets.

We will be having an open house to go along with our Flag Day Service on June 14th. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, and

co-workers so we can show them what the Elks are all about.

The bartenders have a list of our delinquent members. Take a look and see if you know any of them and ask them to get their

dues paid.

See you around the lodge!!

Fraternally yours,

Organ & Tissue Donation Program The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the USA has joined forces with Donate Life America to increase donations of organs, eyes, and life-saving tissue. The need is paramount. More than 110,000 patients were waiting for organ transplants as of March 2011, according to the Donate Life America website, www.donatelife.net. Only 28,663 organ transplants had been performed in 2010, and even fewer—14,502 organ donations had been made in that year. We Elks Members can help close the gap! For more information on the impor-tance of donation and how to become a registered donor in your state, go to the Do-

nate Life website. This is a great way to show that “Elks Give from the Heart.”

Elk of the Month By ER Bob Byrnes and The House Committee

Joe Chickene Joe has been a long time active member at our Lodge. He’s held numerous offices and committee chairs over the years. Joe is probably best known lately as the Flag Day Committee Chairman for the past 8 years. He leads his committee and keeps the event organized and running smoothly every year. Joe and his committee along with the Veterans Committee, Officers, Military Color Guard, Boy & Girl Scouts, and other guests make the Flag Day Ceremony one of the most antici-pated and emotional services of the year. Joe and his wife, Marianne, also support our many Lodge events and you will find them Friday nights enjoying dinner in the Grill Room. Joe, thank you for your positive attitude, team work, and all that you continue to do to strengthen the legacy of the Point Pleasant Lodge. Congratulations, Joe, on being our June Elk of the Month!!

Upcoming Event: Saturday, June 6th, is the Belmont Stakes. Post time is approxi-mately 6:32 pm. If you aren’t attending Convention, come to the Grill Room to join in the fun and watch the race on one of our HD flat screen TV’s. There will be a Special Belmont Stakes Kitchen Menu from 2 pm till race time.

Veterans Committee

By Nancy DeVito Once again our Veterans Committee came through for the Air Force. They cooked and served almost 1,000 Airman for the Birthday of the Air Force. Col. Underkofler called me and said they did an outstanding job. Volunteers: Gus Schipani, Cus Dalik, Dino Castronova, Mike Travisano, Regina McCabe, Stephanie Pandolfo, and Carol Bernard. Congratulations to the SED NVSC essay contest winners. The essay theme was “What a Veteran Means to Me.” 1st place winner came from our very own Lodge. His name is Benjamin Meseroll. Second place from Brick Lodge was Nicole San Filippo. Congratulations on a job well done! Not only was it a great day for us in the Essay contest-Point Pleasant also took 1st place in the Bocce Ball Tournament at the M*A*S*H Picnic. That makes 3 years in a row! And, to top that, they donated their winnings to our Veterans Committee!! Thank you ER Bob Byrnes, Bob Scott, Gus Schipani, PER Tom Watters, and VP Dawn Tortoriello (the mascot).

On May 5, the Air Force invited our Elk volunteers to enjoy an evening of good music, food, and camaraderie. It was a beautiful night. The atmos-phere was perfect and we couldn’t have felt more appreciated. Pictured at left: Lindsay Ellyn and Taylor Alexander from Nashville, TN. Our Super 50/50 Raffle is in progress, so please support us and mail back

your tickets. Your support is very much appreciated from those who serve. Welcome home to the 550 soldiers from the 114th. It was my honor and pleasure to entertain your children while they waited very patiently for your arrival. What an emotional day it was for all! God Bless Them All! Watching Dads’ holding their babies for the first time was priceless! They were deployed for a year.

Don’t forget Flag Day, Sunday, June 14th. Come on down to the Veterans Park and hear about our nation’s flag. Ceremony starts at 11 am. Joe Chickene does an awesome job work-ing out the details.
