Building Spotlight: New plantings in the lobby

Just in case you have not noticed we updated the planters in the lobby. The old trees were overgrowing the area and we needed a fresh look. If you have not already seen the updated look, please take a moment to swing by and see.

Spotlight: New Awning Over the Mail Room Door

You know the saying "Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds". We decided to help them out and installed a new awning about the mail room door.

As the leaves change and the days get shorter, we are taking the time to get the Park ready for winter. Take the time this autumn to prepare your home for the oncoming cold weather. Ready the furnace for the months of work it will have ahead…. Don’t wait until it’s snowing and your furnace goes out. With upkeep in the fall, you’ll have peace of mind in the winter and more time to hibernate.

Heating System Checkup

Be sure to change the air filter in your furnace and check its efficiency before the cold weather begins. Call in an HVAC contractor to test the heating output and give the sys-tem a tune-up. This technician can also check for and correct possibly hazardous car-bon monoxide levels generated by your heating system. After your furnace has been

tuned up to its maximum efficiency, take a moment to inspect your heating ducts and vents. Dust them off and clear away anything that may have gotten into them over the

summer.

The Gutters

It’s best to inspect and clean the gutters a few times during the fall, especially if there are many leafy trees around your house. Gutters and downspouts should be kept clean and should direct water away from the foundation, as well as from walkways and drive-

ways, so that they do not become slippery or icy.

Pipes and Water Spigots

Disconnect garden hoses and, if practical, use an indoor valve to shut off and drain wa-ter from pipes leading to outside faucets. This reduces the chance of freezing in the

section of pipe just inside the house.

In The Garage

It is recommended that you empty out unused fuel from any gas-powered equipment stored in the garage, such as a lawnmower, because sediment can build up and clog

the fuel lines. Store gasoline in tanks out of children’s reach and have it ready for use in your snowblower or emergency generator, if need be.

Test Your Emergency Generator

It’s a good idea to have an emergency generator if you live in an area that sees a lot of ice storms, as these are a major cause of blackouts during the winter. So if you have

one, haul it out and give it a test run to see if it is in good working order. Make sure you never run the generator in any enclosed space – like your garage – as it will present a

carbon monoxide hazard.

Spot Light: Fire Drill 2014

Our yearly fire drill in September was a big success. We were able to clear out building , of about 3000 people, in an amazingly short amount of time. From the time that the alarms started sounding to the time we called all clear was only 22 minutes. Bill Naito Company is very thankful to all of the Fire Wardens out there who diligently cleared their suites and reported back to us. We were able to find a few issues and get them taken care of before they could cause a problem in an actual fire.

Review Your Home for Fire Safety The introduction of the heating sea-son brings new potential for fire haz-ards, so take a moment to review fire safety in your home. Check and re-place fire extinguishers if neces-sary, and change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Also go over the home fire evacuation plan with your family.

2014 Tenant Tip: Emergency kit

TENANT TIP: EMERGENCY KITS, ARE YOURS STOCKED? No matter what the size of

your company, having emergency preparedness kits

stocked and readily accessible to employees is critical to business success and employee well-being.

Your organization’s size will determine the size of kit you should keep in your office;

there are many sizes available. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, recommends the following items that should be in ever basic

emergency supply kit: x Water. One gallon of water per person per day for drinking and

sanitation x Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food

x Battery powered radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert, and extra batteries for both

x Flashlight and extra batteries

Don’t Forget to change your clocks back

Dr. Herman’s Holistic Approach to Foot Care Northwest Foot and Ankle Clinic, located on Mont-gomery Park’s 4th floor, specializes in natural foot care and helps patients rediscover healthy and happy feet. Doctor Kai Herman is a new addition to NWFA clinic. Her passion is working with athletes and motivated patients to help them get back on their feet, pain free and stronger than before. She focuses on alternative pain management and provides conservative, yet nat-ural care to help speed healing and always educates her patients with regards to injury prevention. Nutri-tion, exercise, and simple home remedies are some of Dr. Herman’s favorite recommendations. Utilizing a natural and long-sighted approach to foot care, she has helped treat conditions such as bunions, ham-mertoes, plantar fascial pain, ankle sprains, tendon and muscle strains, and arthritis.

“ Most foot complaints get significantly better by avoiding problematic footwear;; using devices, such as Correct Toes, to help the foot find it’s natural shape and function at its best;; and by providing one’s feet with a little TLC in the form of mas-sage, acupuncture, and physical therapy. If you set the stage, nature often does the rest.” When it comes to long standing foot problems or conditions complicated by short-term solutions, such as cortisone injections, additional therapies may be needed. In such cases, Dr. Herman employs a technique known as Prolotherapy. Prolothera-py involves the injection of a sugar-based solution into an injured area to help re-ignite a healing response and regenerate damaged tissue. This therapy is emerg-ing as a promising treatment for many stubborn foot conditions. Prolotherapy is minimally invasive, requires little down time, and is low risk. Combining a natural foot protocol with regenerative injections provides a comprehensive and often per-manent solution to many chronic foot conditions.
