BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTIONS
Board of Trustees Elections
The last day for voting for the Board of Trustees By-Election is by midday Friday 31 March. If you can get your voting papers to the office by midday we can courier them off for you. The results will be announced on Thursday 6th April.
GARDENING WORKING BEE: SUNDAY 2ND APRIL FROM 1-3PM.
We would love to see the whole school community pitch in to help tidy up the gardens so they match the new and improved school buildings. Friends will be running a free sausage sizzle for the kids (and adults) and coffee and tea too. We will text you on Sunday morning if we have to postpone again due to bad weather. Otherwise we’ll see you with your gardening gloves, trowels, loppers and clippers in hand.

PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE UPDATE
The Playground Committee met a few weeks ago to go over the plans for the playground development and to plan the first stages in a bit more detail. As a committee we report back to the Board and the Friends of Roseneath as we are using the parent fundraising from last year to develop the playground. If you have relevant contacts or skills yourself that could help us in our endeavours we would love to hear from you!
The intention is to start with the ‘old adventure playground’ area opposite The Long Boat. A piece of play equipment will be purchased from Playground People, from a generous parent donation. An example of what we could purchase is the ‘Supernova’ (pictured below)
Other work that will be involved includes:
-moving the slide over towards the large pohutukawa
-moving the memorial seats to create more space in the play zone.
-building platform steps around the pohutukawa down to the lower level
-tree pruning and maintenance and more bark
-replacing the fence along the pathway
-giving the current playground equipment a good spruce up

SUMDOG MATHS COMPETITION
A few weeks ago, the students of Upper Bridge were involved in an online Wellington Math competition where each student has to try to complete a 1000 math questions within a week. The class with the highest overall average wins. The types of questions vary from all areas of strand (geometry, statistics, measurement) to basic facts knowledge. This year 788 students from 64 classes competed. Upper Bridge won the competition with an average of 802 points, 50 points above the next place class. Our students placed first, second and third respectively - Sumner Hancock, Rebecca Powell and Aston Varga. The class won a paid subscription to the math site.

Bees
Bees are around flowers all the time because they need nectar to make honey. They go from flower to flower. They take the pollen and take it to another flower. They take it back to their hive for food. They eat the pollen and then throw it up to make honey. They drink nectar from the flowers too using a long tongue like a straw. Bees are very nice to give us some of their honey.

Bees
Bees go to flower to flower. They get the pollen from the flower and they bring it to the hive for the queen and the babies to eat. The worker bees collect pollen with hairs that are all over their body. They collect nectar from flowers with their tongue then they go to the hive and vomit the nectar. Then they turn the nectar into honey. Light flowers attract bees. Bees are important to the world because they help the seeds from the flowers to grow and make plants.
