As we get closer to the holiday breaks we will be preparing for upcoming travel plans. Here are some tips to keep you warm safe and on the road. We always start off before any big trip by taking our car for an oil change if the trip will put you above your next oil change mileage. If you have had your oil recently changed stopping by a tire shop to just get your tires and fluids checked will usually be free of charge. Before fueling up and hitting the road you should put to-gether an emergency road side kit including a gallon of wa-ter, a flashlight or road flares, jumper cables, and a quart of each fluid your car takes. These items can help you get from the side of the road into the next town if your hav-ing car troubles even if you don’t know anything about cars a trusted friend or family member can walk you through some minor repairs over the phone, if your service is good enough YouTube is a great resource for instructional videos. Now that we are on the road we have just a few more tips to

get you home for the holidays in one piece. When stopping for gas try to use well lit busy gas stations at night the more people there are the less likely you will be singled out. Carry cash for use at gas stations take out either $50 or $100 dollars at a time this will be enough for gas and snacks. You don’t want your card information to fall into the wrong hands when traveling out of state you will look out of place and look like an easy target for identity theft. The most important thing when traveling is to let someone know your intended route, when you leave, when you plan to arrive, and to check in with them at regular intervals. This could be a lifesaving step if you get stranded without gasoline or break down in an area without cell reception. Instead of your family searching an area states wide you could narrow it down to a few towns on a specific highway. These tips should help you stay just a little safer this year when you hit the road safe travels and happy holidays.

The Red & Silver Review club is in its first year here at NOC Enid, it is sponsored by NOC instructor Scott Cloud and co-sponsored by NOC instructor Dean Pearcy. The Red & Silver Club’s goal is to generate interest in the NOC newspaper and provide more opportunity for peo-ple to contribute. The club is open to everyone and Mass Comm students are especially encouraged to join to grow their experience in the field. The club being so new, there has only been one meeting with members Alvin Jones and Hayden Fuller.

When asked about the reason for starting the Club and the goals that they have, Scott cloud answered, “We started the Red & Silver Review club in the hopes of drawing more interest in the student newspaper. It is a challenge since it is an online publication, readers have to find the newspaper on the NOC website to read, and people need a reason to read it.” “In class, we have looked at ways to draw interest in the paper and hope to use some of those ideas going forward,” he added.

ByHayden Fuller Chris Gerber, head coach of men’s basketball, started coaching at Bethany college in 2014; after coaching, he went to Southwestern Oklahoma State to be a graduate assistant and get his master’s. Gerber came to Northern Oklahoma college in 2017 as the assistant coach, and last year he took over as the head coach. While preseason is an exciting time for the team, it also comes with a lot of challenges. When asked what the team does during the preseason to prepare for the new season, Gerber said, “We are limited to our time on the court, but we do a lot of different things to prepare us for the season. We lift weights, individual workouts, team workouts on the court, and team workouts of conditioning. Then once prac-tices start in October, we practice, get to play a few scrim-mages, so then we get to watch the film and continue build-ing for the season.” The team also spends a lot of time around each other, living in the dorms, going to classes, exercising, and practicing to-

gether. Gerber wants to build chemistry on and off the court, embrace each other, and work towards that common goal together. The team is rela-tively young, with only four returners and 11 incoming first-year students, but they are excited to continue building on the players’ skills to play great defense and keep the ball moving on offense.
