Rotary Club SpeakersThe Javelina fall sports head coaches were guest speakers at the Noon Rotary Club last week. Left to rightare head football coach Daren Wilkinson, Rotarian Karen Silvernail, head volleyball coach Tanya Allen andhead cross country coach Ryan Dall.

Alums Meet in New MexicoDan Sutton, left, former Javelina football player from Corpus Christi, and Amada Pena, Javelina alum and internationally known artist, metrecently when Sutton was on vacation in Santa Fe, N.M. Pena lives inSanta Fe and has one of his studios there.

IT IS ALWAYS with regret when you lose a member of theathletic staff. And this is especially true when it’s a close friend.

Such is the case with the departure of sports informationdirector Kelvin Queliz.

After three years with the Javelinas, Kelvin will be departingnext week for a position at the University of New Orleans.

Kelvin has done a good job and especially in getting the Javelinasocial media to a level as good as any.

His office has taken on new responsibilities since his arrival andhe and his staff have been innovative.

Although we don’t want good people and good friends to moveon, it’s part of the business. And certainly we wish Kelvin andChristina the very best in their new home.

PRESEASON PREPARATIONS FOR the football, volleyballand cross country teams haven’t gone exactly as planned.

You can thank Harvey for the disruption. The teams had to cease workouts last Thursday and were

scheduled to resume their schedules Monday, weather permitting. All three will open this weekend and it’s not the most desirable

situation when you have go veer from your schedule at that latestage of the preseason agenda.

But I can recall when I came here in 1968, Coach Gil Steinkeliked to joke about how maybe the preseason drills aren’t asimportant as thought. (Continued on Page 3)
