When I flew last week on the airplane, I noticed that the first seats to go were the rows next to the emergency exit doors because of the extra leg room. As the stewardess approached, she asked the passengers in those seats if they had read the emergency brochure and understood what to do if there was an emergency. The passengers sitting there mumbled an answer, and the steward‐ess became more insistent, telling them it was important to read and understand the emergency instructions in case of an actual emergency. She asked them to respond with a definite answer.
I wonder if we would be able to recall the instructions in our Bibles if we suddenly had an emergency and did not have our Bibles in hand? Are we familiar enough with the verses that we could help someone with a crisis? Do we need to study the “safety instructions” in the Word of God so that we are ready when called upon to help others? There are opportunities coming soon to help you in your Bible study. Be on the watch! SOS is on the way!
Thank you to the Life Matters Class for covering the Family Life Center this week and to the Immanuel Class for covering the week of July 11.

Mike’s Musings
As I write this late on Sunday evening it is hard to be‐lieve that it was two years ago tonight that Lu Anne and I were ʺpoundedʺ at the Patriotic Vespers! Indeed, this an‐nual gathering at Mike and Joan Wombleʹs home is a won‐derful tradition that has been going on quite a while. What a joy it was to watch children play games and take boat rides, to see Russell Clark and Caleb Harrison get their hair and faces really wet (you had to be there) and to enjoy those really good desserts. However, the best part of the evening was the pleasure of each otherʹs company as we were able to casually visit. I am thankful for the opportu‐nity to get to know some really wonderful people in a way that our regular church schedule does not allow. Thanks again to the Wombles for hosting us. In thinking about our countryʹs early settlers I am re‐minded of a book of short devotional readings by the Puri‐tans that a friend gave me many years ago. The Valley of Vision is actually a set of prayers that deals with everything from praise to contrition. The depth of the writing is actu‐ally quite stunning. This Sunday in worship we will share in the reading of one of my favorite prayers from the collec‐tion. If you want a taste of what it says, read Hosea 10:12! Triple L‐‐We are getting a fine group together for our trip to Campbell on July 26th. We would like to have our final count by Sunday the 10th. There is still plenty of room since we can take more than one vehicle for this trip. Just give us a call in the office to get your name on the list.
