Celebrating Life Each Day...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RESIDENTS!

®

Living in an area of Christmas trees aplenty, Mary O'Neill and her family loved picking out their own tree. This one particular year, Mary's husband, John and her two children cut down an extremely large tree. It was so large, that they had to cut off the top of the tree in order for it to fit into their home. With finances being slim, they decided to decorate the tree with red lights and chili peppers and everyone in their neighborhood wanted to come and admire their Christmas tree. After that particular year, they always decorated their tree with Shamrocks, green lights and leprechauns.

Dottie Crabb and her husband Bob, lived in Germany with a host family (Peter and Anna Schmidt) while he was serving in the service. One night, as a surprise, the host family knocked on their door and invited them into the living room. To their wonder and surprise, there was a beautiful

Christmas tree decorated with real candles and and had wonderful German cookies waiting for them..

Mary Himmelman tells this story: How I met My husband:"Each year, Jack would go to a Christmas tree farm and cut down a Blue Spruce for his mom and dad's home. He would then spray it all white and put on 2,000 little white light bulbs, silver bells(from small to large),silver birds and butterflies with long flowing tails, tinsel rope and a mirrored ball on the top which rotated. He would then sprinkle it white white snow. My mom was in a club with his mom and she encouraged me and my college girlfriend, who was artistic to go see this tree. We did, and Jack came home from night school and the rest is history. We kept up the tradition with our own children."

December 2017

As Christmas grows near, we want to remember what is important. Whether it's during a football game or around the dinner table, let your family know what you are thankful for. Find opportunities to share how grateful you are to have them and for everything they do for you. This will certainly help you be more aware of the blessings in your life.

If you are not knowledgeable already, perhaps you could ask a grandchild how to share faith related stories on social media. It is always fun to share your own experiences.

Sometimes inviting loved ones to a worship event may seem intimidating, but if there is a special musical event or holiday

worship service coming up then that may be the perfect time.

Display your faith through your actions. When you are kind and loving to others, everyone can feel and see your inner faith. Look for big and small service activities to set a good example for your friends and family. Suggesting and then organizing a trip with friends or family to the local food bank, shelter, etc. is a great way to share the feelings that true service brings.

One of the most comfortable ways of sharing your faith with friends and family is to ask them about their faith first. You can better understand people when you understand their beliefs.

It is much easier to find things in common with your loved ones when you are able to find things in common with each other.

It is also a lot of fun to share your Christmas memories with your family. Even if they have heard the story before, most will love hearing it again and again.

It is so important to let your family know who you really are. One example is; write all of your likes and dislikes down for them. Tell them about your childhood and what it was like then. They love to hear and learn about you. Maybe they will even carry on some of your traditions!

Enjoy this Christmas season and may God bless you and yours!

Cherish Your Family

Mind, Body & Soul With a little planning, preparing for the holidays can be much easier. It is also a way to reduce some of the stress that might come with the season. Here are a few suggestions:

Know your spending limit. This year, set a budget, and don't spend more than you have planned.

Give something personal. You can show love and caring with any gift that is meaningful and personal. It doesn't have to cost a lot. You can even write your memoirs and give it to your family members!

Get organized. Make lists or use an appointment book to keep track of tasks to do and events to attend.

Be realistic. Try not to put pressure on yourself to create the perfect holiday for your family.

Keep a regular sleep, meal, and exercise schedule! Most of all, enjoy your family!
