The main requirements forhydraulic connections can besummarised in three words:

The new VOSSFormSQR tubecoupling system fulfils theserequirements with its innova-tive design based on theproven VOSS design princi-ples.

A contour is formed on at theend of a standard hydraulictube in the VOSSForm100pre-assembly machine. Whena soft seal and the specialSQR nut are added, a simple,high-quality connectionresults.

Maximum loadability andsafety

The critical area is the transi-tion from the formed contourto the tube. Here the formingprocess can result in materialembrittlement. With theVOSSFormSQR system thisweak point is effectively re-lieved. On the one hand, theradiused transition minimisesthe notch effect. On the otherhand, the SQR nut with the in-tegrated clamping ring clamps

in the tube radially on thecircumference, absorbing thedynamic loads before the criti-cal area and increases thepressure loading capacity andresistance to breakage.

Assembly safety with surestop

Safe assemblies mean safeconnections. With the VOSS-FormSQR System the face of thetube end strikes against thebottom of the standard DIN/ISO connecting pieceduring assembly. When thenut is tightened, the end ofassembly becomes clear froma noticeable increase in force.Under and over-tightening canbe virtually eliminated. In addition, the assembly pathis reduced, and with it themounting time. The formed-oncontour is deeply inserted intothe 24° taper, ensuring stableseating.

Process-reliable pre-assembly

Forming with the VOSS-Form100 pre-assembly deviceis extremely simple. The simplepushing in of the tube endagainst the stop and the moni-tored forming allows no errorsto occur. The inner mandrel onthe forming head preventsconstriction of the tube in theformed area. The inside tubediameter is completely retained,preventing pressure lossesdue to inward arching.

Cycle times from 12 to 15seconds particularly decreasethe assembly times in seriesproduction.

Freedom from leaks withsoft seal

A soft seal offers considerableadvantages over a purelymetallic seal. Leaks due to thecomponents settling undermechanical loading are com-pensated. This effectivelyprevents connection sweating.A completely leak-tight con-nection even in the precisionarea is more economical, pro-tects the environment andemphasises the quality of theconnection, and therefore alsoof the entire product.

The concept of locating thesoft seal in the secondary area – as with the ES-4 cuttingring – minimises both staticand dynamic loading of theseal. The metallic primarythrottle on the face of the tubedampens the load during

pressure change loading. With static loading there is amajor time delay in chargingwith pressure. This type ofarrangement ensures the long-term stability of the elastomer.

Economy

Avoiding leaks, minimising theassembly time and eliminatingmaintenance effort and ex-pense is an excellent basis foreconomy. Low material costsand simple parts handling alsomake VOSSFormSQR tube cou-plings an especially advanta-geous solution for series pro-duction.

VOSSForm100 Pre-Assembly DeviceThe new VOSS pre-assemblymachine VOSSForm100 en-sures time-saving, process-reliable production of the VOSStube profile. The monitoredprocess in conjunction withoptimum tube guidance makesdefective forming as a result ofincorrect operation virtually im-possible.

Simple tool changes consider-ably contribute to reducingprocessing times. The clamp-ing jaws and forming head canbe replaced without tools. The clear marking of bothtools prevents assembly errorsdue to incorrect combinationsof tools and tube dimensions.

The forming process

Forming begins with the tubebeing pushed into the pre-assembly machine against thestop plate. Pressing the Startbutton triggers the process(1.).

The clamping jaws close andclamp the tube in place. The stop plate swivels out ofthe forming area (2.).

The forming head movesforward and forms the VOSS-FormSQR contour plastically onthe tube (3.).

The forming head moves backand the clamping jaws open(4.).

Removal of the tube is moni-tored. As a result, the devicecan automatically move intothe starting position again andbegin the next tube formingprocess without the necessityof manual resetting (5.).

The right connection for yourapplication. With the introduc-tion of the new VOSSFormSQR

coupling system, another so-lution variant is added to theuniform concept. The optimumsolution for your applicationmust fulfil the technicalrequirements 100 %. And it isjust as important to use themost economical technologyavailable. Material costs, as-sembly and maintenance effortare the main factors. As a re-sult, the optimum solution canonly be found if the require-ments for the connection'sperformance are consideredexactly.

Welded connections are gen-erally considered the safest.However, the total costs ofthis connection must beassessed so that it alwaysmakes sense to search formore economical solutionsthat offer the same degree ofsafety under the respectiveconditions of use.
