Texas instruments DLP technology has caused a revolution inthe home cinema world, which will continue with the introduction of the .95 1080p worlds first 1920 x 1080resolution native HD dlp chip incorporated in the VP-15S1.The .95 1080p design tightens the space between the mirrorsfor even less pixelation than before. In addition this chipsetoperates at a higher speed, reducing dither noise in low lightportions of the image. Accompanied with a 200W SHP lampassembly a large improvement on brightness is realized. Thisbrings the viewer unprecedented black levels, contrast ratio,and even better low level accuracy than before, makingshadow details more visible and rivaling film in its dynamicrange. The 16:9 aspect ratio of the panel has got a substantialadvantage over the 4:3 panel especially for handlingwidescreen sources. Not only for the film originated materials,TV is also moving towards 16:9 aspect ratio with HDTV in thescope. In addition, a widescreen panel, is free from the 'HaloEffect' which caused by 4:3 DMD panel when it is projectingother than 4:3 images.

DLP Technology

The crowning achievement on this VP-15S1 is a completelynew video processing engine. This new processing chip wasdeveloped by Gennum (specifically for the VP-15S1) and isthe most powerful video processor ever included in a videodisplay device—consumer or professional. Gennum’s GF935110-bit image processing system-on-a-chip (SoC) sets newbenchmarks for video realism and processing flexibility. TheGF9351 features Gennum’s latest de-interlacing algorithmswith dynamic edge detection and film mode processing forboth HDTV and SDTV interlaced formats. Content adaptivenoise reduction & detail enhancement algorithms removeunwanted noise while improving image detail for a cinematicHDTV experience. It offers true motion adaptivede-interlacing of all non-progressive sources – HD included– with inverse telecine (3:2 pull down), jagged edgereduction circuitry, 4:4:4 processing at a true 10 bit colordepth (over 1 billion colors displayed) and a new level offlexibility for the installer including sizing and blankingcontrols. Gennum Video Processing

De-interlacing technology that makes input signalsprogressive, converting them from non-interlaced tointerlaced sequentially. It is compatible with High-Definitionsignals (720p, 1080i, 1080p) as well, and it preserves thehigh-resolution effect after progressive conversion.TruMotionHD also reduces chroma upsampling error causedby MPEG decoders of DVD players.

FineEdge™ refers to edge enhancement (correction andemphasis) and adaptive processing. This processing smoothesimage edges extremely well, especially lines runningdiagonally. In combination with the TruMotionHD™ thepicturewill be of an extraordinary sharpness and stability.

The GF9351 uses 10-bit processing for all signal processing, atechnique called RealityExpansion™. 10-bit processingproduces exceptionally better gradation than typical 8-bitprocessing, raising the number of colors to a higher order ofmagnitude from 16.77 million to more than a billion. With theincrease number of possible colors the reproduce picturesappears much more natural.

Detail emphasis and noise reduction are provided by what iscalled the FidelityEngine™. This technology cuts noisewithout reducing the sense of picture resolution. Forlow-resolution images that are not sharp, the FidelityEngine™adds emphasis to details, producing clarity.

Furthermore, a new lens was added to the already legendaryand award winning lineup of optics from Konica-Minolta.This new lens is a middle throw distance lens in compared tothe previous available lenses. The VP-15S1 is featured with acustom ground and 14-element lens, specially designed withtwo elementary things in mind: contrast and image quality. Alllenses are finished by multi-coating treatment, eliminatingany excessive glare. The fully sealed optics is assembled in aclean room, ensuring consistently high-quality imagesunaffected by dust throughout a long period of use. Theselectable dual iris are built in the lens of and this opticalengine and one in the illumination path..

As in the previous generation, the VP-15S1 also utilizes the sixsegment color wheel. This wheel is used for less dithering oflow level signals and keeping colors accurate at low signallevels. It's built with two times RGB filters and one additionaldark green filter. This will improve image quality especiallyin dark scenes and the overall color accuracy for naturalreproduction of images.

It employs the same copy protection technology asDVI and supports HDCP, only exchanging signals with unitscertified compatible. High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)

The chassis of the VP-15S1 is made of aluminum casting toprevent electro-magnetic interferences and to provide agood grounding point for the electric circuitry. The path ofthe air flow is carefully engineered to suppress the fannoise. This solid construction also works as a secondarysealing of the light path to prevent any light leakage. Noisecancellation elements such as the cabinet structure as wellas sealing the color wheel motor make the VP-15S1extremely quiet.

The VP-15S1 has a control section that was designedspecifically with the high-end custom installer in mind. Notonly are there discrete codes for every function of theprojector, there are numerous ways to control it as well. Inaddition to the IR from either the front or rear panel, theprojector can also be hardwired for IR and even RS232Ccontrol. 2 DC triggers allow a screen to go up/downautomatically by turning on/of the VP-15S1 and two panelsto drop down on the sides of a 16:9 screen, whenever

NORMAL is selected on the remote for watching 4:3 content.

Extensive Controls for Flexible Installation

One of the most critical aspects to ensure the best resultsfrom the VP-15S1 is to mount it properly. To achieve aperfectly proportioned picture the exact throw distanceneeds to be determined. The FOCUS pattern functionallows you to focus the image on the screen and positionthe projector properly by use of the lens shift, zoom controland throw distance. If mounted above or below the screen,the then you will have to tilt up or down in order to havethe image line up to the screen, in which case keystone correction will be needed.
