Presidents Report

At last we have points on the board, a great win against Papatoetoe last week. Well done fella’s, sorry I wasn't able to be there to see it. The Reserves went down again but only by one goal. I understand that they played well but didn’t take all their chances. Keep it up boys, the goals will come. This week we host the players, officials and supporters of the Bay Olympic club. We extend them a warm welcome and hope they enjoy the hospitality of our clubrooms after the game. A reminder to all our supporters, don’t forget the 50th Jubilee celebrations on Queens birthday weekend. Tickets to the various functions over the weekend are limited and going fast, so get your order in soon or you will miss out. Catch you next programme.

Reserve Coaches Comments

After 3 games and 3 losses it might look like we are not performing to our potential, but that is far from the truth. Myself and Gareth are pleased the way we are playing we just need stop the simple mistakes & start the game at the kick off not 15 mins into the game.

After the 2 games at easter when we played Lynn Avon and Papatoetoe I thought we should have come away with at least 4 points because there were long periods in both games when we controlled the game & played some nice football.

We as a team are working hard to address the issues in our game to get on top of sides & score some goals so we can get our first win of the sea-son & I know that is isn't that far away.

To Alex Mcdonald we as a team hope you make a quick recovery from your broken cheek bone/fractured eye socket.

To the supporters that turn up for our game thank you for your support it is much appreciated.

Premier League Coaches Comments

A warm welcome to Kim Beale and his Bay Olympic team and supporters. Bay Olympic is a very strong club and over the years has been in the top group of premier league teams.

A mixed bag of results for us over the Easter weekend. Saturday’s game against a very strong and talented Lynn-Avon side was disappointing not for lack of quality football and application but to have a 1-0 lead turned into a 2-1 loss with 15 minutes remaining was tough to take. Once again the quality and commitment matched our first performance against Suburbs but just lacked the finishing touch. The good thing about two game weekends is that a grumpy coach has a limited time to sulk and get planning to meet Papatoetoe on the Monday.

Well the win we hoped was coming has finally arrived. A typical local derby that at times lacked in quality but not in passion saw us get through 2-1.

We spoke before the game about the importance of three points to kick start our season and strangely although our first win to date was probably our poorest performance. Graham Kay was welcomed back to the starting line up after six weeks out with injury and was part of a first half that we dominated in all areas of the park but failed to score. Nathan Coe got us off to a great start with an early second half goal but instead of igniting us it was Papatoetoe who grained control and equalised. James Davison got us out of a hole with a great half volley from the edge of the box and that was enough to see us through.

Ash and I are demanding more from the players each week and we know that nothing but our best will be good enough to get a result today.

On a sad note Alex McDonald was injured while playing for the Reserves on Monday with a broken cheekbone and fractured eye socket. We wish Alex all the best for a speedy recovery.

Thank you to our supporters especially away to Papatoetoe on Monday, once again it felt like a home game, the lift you gave to the team.

Good luck to all Rewa teams this weekend.

Enjoy the game

Photographs from last weeks Premier Division games against Lynn Avon (yellow) and Papatoetoe (red).

Firstly the woman's first team have their second game of the season after a win and a bye in the second round. Best of luck for the first home game of the year and it would be great to see some outstanding support for this team. It was great to see the blue of Manurewa flood the club rooms of Papatoetoe and it was obviously made easier with a win. Well done to the Prems and to our Reserves, from what I saw a very aggressive and tightly contested game that unfortunately didn't result in a win but not through a lack of trying. Well done Reserves. Two byes unfortunately due to lack of players and one cannot knock the commitment of Graham Wickman who travelled back from Cooks for the game only to find it was defaulted by the opposition. Stevie, Goal Keeping may not be your cho-sen position on the pitch and maybe we now know why. I'm sure they ap-preciated you putting your hand up before the game, 6a going down 3 - 2 I think. 6b defaulted. What's that about? Its Easter you have 2 games normally. At that age you'd think the families would know not to book holi-days or make plans for the long weekend. Fees guys and hope your en-joying the season to date.

Remember Thursday Club Night. Lets see a few more there in the weeks to come.

Division Three We got off to a shaky start this year. The players for the team weren't finalised until the last moment and the lack of preparation showed in a 6-0 loss to last year's Division 4 winners, Waiheke. It was a home game for Manurewa and the ladies' class did show through after the fi-nal whistle when another top notch feed was put on for the players and supporters. The team bounced back quickly and put in a very credible perform-ance the next week against Onehunga-Mangere. The skill level and team work was far superior and we had several very good opportuni-ties at scoring. The opposition scored first and we responded not long after with Shontelle Stevens being rewarded for another outstanding performance. I thought we would pinch the game with the girls putting on a lot of pressure, however the opposition midfielder who had been troubling us all day found herself with a clear shot on goal late in the game and she finished clinically to give Onehunga Mangare the win 2-1. The team work started from a determined performance from our back line, and centre back and recent import Danielle deservedly got player of the day. The spectators all agreed it was an entertaining watch, so come on down on Sundays and support!
