Chris Chiozza returns as UF’s only four-year senior and figures to start and carry the bulk of the point guard minutes after three years of platooning with Kasey Hill. Leading scorer and first-team All-SEC guard KeVaughn Allen returns after posting 14.0 points per game and 78 made 3-pointers last season. John Egbunu showed improvement on the defensive end last season while averaging 7.8 points and 6.6 rebounds through 24 games before suffering a season-ending torn ACL. Egbunu projects to return to action for the Gators in January. › Kevarrius Hayes started 16 games at center last season, helping the Gators make their postseason run in Egbunu’s absence. He became the fourth Gator in team history to block 60 shots in a season. Keith Stone showed flashes of his potential last season and stands to see greatly increased minutes with the departure of both of last season’s starting forwards (Robinson, Leon). Stone figures to fit into a stretch-4 role with a good shot and the ability to face up, but has the size and strength to compete in the post. Gorjok Gak saw limited action as a freshman, but showed positive signs of the problems his size, wingspan and ability to run the floor can cause for opponents. › Jalen Hudson gives Florida added scoring depth on the perimeter, whether as a reserve or as part of a three-guard lineup. Hudson sat last season as a transfer (Va. Tech) and has two years of eligibility remaining. Dontay Bassett, who projects as a power forward, looks for his first action at UF after missing last season with a stress fracture in his foot. › Graduate transfer Egor Koulechov comes to UF from Rice, where he averaged 18.2 points and 8.9 rebounds while shooting .474 from 3-point range last season. The Gators brought in a four-man signing class that includes three ESPN 100 players and has the opportunity to make an immediate impact with so many significant departures. The freshman class consists of wing Deaundrae Ballard, forward Chase Johnson, guard Mike Okauru and forward Isaiah Stokes. Stokes is coming off a torn ACL suffered during his senior season in high school. Florida’s coaching staff remains completely intact for the third straight season as Mike White, Dusty May, Jordan Mincy and Darris Nichols all return to the bench, along with support staffers Kyle Church, Jonathan Blake, Duke Werner and Preston Greene. › The Gators’ #7 preseason rank in the USA Today Coaches Poll is tied for the third-highest preseason ranking in program history. Florida was preseason #1 in 2006-07, #5 in 2001-02 and #7 in 2002-03 and 2014-15.

› Florida is ranked preseason top 10 for the 12th time in the past 17 years, one of six schools in the nation to attain that distinction. Below are the most preseason top-10 rankings since the 1999-2000 season.

ROSTER EXPERIENCE

› UF’s opening day roster once again has more career Division I starts’ worth of experience than any in recent memory, but only 174 of those starts came in a Florida uniform, with John Egbunu, Jalen Hudson and Egor Koulechov totaling 132 starts at other schools.

› The team’s 548 individual games played entering the season is the most since the 595 games played on the 2013-14 opening day roster and the 2006-07 team’s 575.

› Florida will also have depth on the wing with veteran transfers Jalen Hudson and Egor Koulechov, who between them bring 161 games, 101 starts, 1,787 points and 215 3-pointers woth of experience.

CENTERS OF ATTENTION

› On the flip side, the Gators will start the season with just one healthy frontcourt player, Kevarrius Hayes, who has started a game as John Egbunu recovers from his ACL injuury.

› Along with Hayes, the Florida frontcourt will be manned by Keith Stone (34 games), Gorjok Gak (15), Dontay Bassett (0) and Chase Johnson (0).

Mike White led the Gators to the NCAA Elite Eight in his second sea-son at the helm in Gainesville, as Florida posted a 27-9 mark and a 14-4 SEC record to finish second in the conference.

As a result, White was named SEC Coach of the Year, his third confer-ence coach of the year honor in six seasons as a head coach, and was a semifinalist for the Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year.

The Gators won 24 regular season games in 2016-17, tied for third most in program history, including a 15-6 record in games outside of Gainesville. Florida played just 10 home games as Exactech Arena’s renovation was being completed, but the Gators made the most in posting a 9-1 mark in friendly confines.

QUOTABLE MIKE WHITE

On Chris Chiozza’s leadership:“He’s been a very good leader by example to this point. I think he’s also a supportive leader in the locker room and at the apartments and in the dorms. He’s a relationship guy. So in those ways he’s actually vocal outside the lines. We’ll continue to try to challenge him to be a little more vocal between the lines, but pleased with his effort to this point.”

On how last year’s Elite Eight run helps:“I think it’s good for our fans, it’s good for recruiting, just adds a little bit more excitement around a program. I just don’t think it’s got a big bearing on how we play. We’re going to practice to a certain standard every day. We’ve got high-character guys. They want to be as good as they possibly can be as players and as a team. The run last year I think gave us a little bit more confidence in terms of what we’re doing and more buy-in.”

On advantages of having a veteran team:“We feel like if your locker room’s right, the culture’s right, the experienced, older, more bought-in guys are, in my opinion, a little bit better than younger, high-character, bought in guys. I think sometimes experience can backfire on you when you’ve got some bad chemistry, and you’ve got a rough culture that you’re dealing with because I think older frustrated guys might be harder to deal with than younger frustrated guys who have a light at the end of the tunnel as a sophomore, as a junior, as a senior. So I guess it all depends on the chemistry of this team. Individually, I really like our character. That doesn’t always mean you’ve got great team character like last year’s group. If we do, I think our experience will be a positive force rather than a negative.”

On the nature of this team’s experience:“Collectively we come off the Elite Eight run, and that’s got to give you some confidence, of course. But that said, not one guy on our roster, I believe, has been to more than one NCAA Tournament. So not trying to downplay it, but just being real with the reality is.”

On Kevarrius Hayes:“Kevarrius has really embraced [vocal leadership] as much as anybody. He’s always led by example. But with those guys having left and there is more opportunity there to be heard Kevarrius has stepped up in that role. Really pleased with that. His motor is still what it is. You know what you’re getting every single day. He hasn’t had a bad practice since he enrolled in school from an effort, intensity, toughness standpoint.”

MEDIA INFORMATIONThe University of Florida appreciates the media coverage from all local, regional and national outlets. The Communications Office believes in developing mutually beneficial relationships with the media and we emphasize a positive and professional working environment with all entities. The ultimate goal of the Communications Office is to provide accurate and timely information about our athletic teams and to ensure that we assist the media to the best of our abilities while they cover our program. ME COVERAGECREDENTIALS: Requests for credentials will be taken online and reviewed by Denver Parler. To access the credential request form, please visit www.sportssystems.com/florida. Once you have submitted your credential request, you will receive an automated email from the Communications Depart-ment acknowledging your request was received and is being reviewed. Once a decision on your request is made, you will receive an email with further information. Requests must be made by the day prior to a game (noon for afternoon games or 4:30 p.m. for evening games).

CREDENTIAL PICK-UP: Credentials will be mailed up until 10 days prior to the event or held at the Press Will Call window at Gate One of the O’Connell Center, which opens for pick-up 90 minutes prior to each game. Credentials can be overnighted at the expense of the media organization within 10 days of the event (by request).

PARKING: A limited number of parking spaces exist and can be requested online with your credential application. Please note that if you request to pick up your credentials at Press Will Call, we will be unable to provide a parking pass as you will have to park before visiting Press Will Call. Free parking is available in the deck next to the O’Connell Center and is generally still available 75-90 minutes before the game.

MEDIA ROOM/INTERVIEW AREA: Located between Gates 1 & 4 in the Martial Arts room near the loading dock, the media room includes work space, neces-sary electrical outlets, a television and wireless internet. A pre-game meal, snacks and soft drinks are also available in the media room. The pre-game meal begins 1:15 before tip. Post-game coach and player press conferences are also conducted in this area.

FLORIDA LOCKER ROOM: The Gator locker room is closed to the media with the exception of the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. Coach White and selected players will be available to the media following games in the media room/interview area. At Florida home games, players are available first while Coach White will follow with a post-game press conference in the Martial Arts/Media Room. If the visiting team chooses to utilize the media room, they will do so either directly before or after Florida players. Coach White will typically go last.

VISITOR LOCKER ROOM: Interview policies and procedures will be determined by visiting Sports Information Directors and coaches. Those procedures will be announced on game days.

GENERAL GAME DAY MEDIA SERVICES: Game program/scorecard, game notes, play-by-play, complete halftime and final statistics, coaches’ & player quote sheets and post-game notes are all regular services on game days.

SEATING: Press seating is assigned, and all media members are asked to utilize their assigned seat. A limited number of front-row courtside press seats are available and will be provided to national publications, major daily newspapers and/or those who cover Florida basketball regularly. Additional seating will be at the front row table in the baseline bleachers near Gate 2 and in the second row courtside behind the press table. Photographers are restricted to two baseline locations closest to the team benches.
