BRIEF REPORT

An Awareness program on Voter Verifiable Paper Audit trail (VVPAT) Voting Machine is organized at RCERT

on 19th January 2019 in Institution of Engineers Hall at 12:45pm for Students & Faculty Members. Mr.

Ujwal Kotharkar & Mr. Ashish M. Khandate, EVM Master Trainers & Mr. K.J. Burile, Mandal Adhikari,

Tahasil Office, Chandrapur also as representatives on behalf of District collector Office gave the

demonstration and hands on experience to all the students and faculty members. All present students &

faculty members were well informed about VVPAT and the method of voting.

During the speech of Mr. Ujwal Kotharkar, EVM Master Trainer, following information has been

disseminated to the students and faculty.

Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) is a method of providing feedback to voters using a ballot less

voting system. A VVPAT is intended as an independent verification system for voting machines designed to

allow voters to verify that their vote was cast correctly, to detect possible election fraud or malfunction,

and to provide a means to audit the stored electronic results. It contains the name of the candidate (for

whom vote has been cast) and symbol of the party/individual candidate.

The VVPAT offers some fundamental differences as a paper, rather than electronic recording

medium when storing votes. A paper VVPAT is readable by the human eye and voters can directly interpret

their vote. A VVPAT allows voters the possibility to verify that their votes are cast as intended.

The VVPAT includes a direct recording electronic voting system (DRE), to assure voters that their votes

have been recorded as intended. Depending on election laws the paper audit trail may constitute a

legal ballot and therefore provide a means by which a manual vote count can be conducted if a recount is

necessary.

After the speed demonstration and hands on experience session was conducted to familiarize the faculty &

students with VVPAT. Prof. P.S. Kulkarni, Dean (Academics) & Prof. Bireshwar Ganguly, Professor In-Charge

of Training & Placement made all necessary arrangements for organization of this program under the

guidance of Dr. D.V. Bhope, Dean (IQAC).
