1ST GRADE!
In 1st grade we will have lots of fun!
We are going to be studying about fun items such as camping, pumpkins, spiders, Native Americans, Christmas traditions, penguins, space, farming, and the rain forest!
LET’S LEARN ABOUT MISS SWING!
Miss Swing grew up in Worland. She is 23 years
old. This will be her second year of teaching, and she is so excited that you are in
her class! She loves teaching and all that comes with it. She grew up with 3
brothers. 2 of them are older and 1 is younger. Her oldest brother, David, lives
here and has 2 children, her next brother, Mike, just moved to Maryland and her
little brother, Bru, is a junior at Worland High
School.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DO NOT FOLLOW OUR 1ST GRADE PRINCIPLES?
Consequence 1 – you will pull a card Consequence 2 – you will pull a second card Consequence 3 – you will pull another card
and fill out an “I will do better” paper and receive a consequence
Consequence 4 – you will pull another card, loose recess today and tomorrow, and you will call home to tell them what happened
GREEN CARDSIf you are on green at the end of the day that means you had a good day!
You were respectful, responsible, productive, safe, and happy!
BLUE CARDSIf you were on blue at the end of the day that means you pulled one card for not following a 1st grade principle
of being respectful, responsible, productive, safe, or happy.
You did learn from you mistake and turn around and have a GREAT rest of
the day! That is amazing!
I made a mistake, but had a good day!
YELLOW CARDSIf you were on yellow at the end of the
day, you pulled 2 cards for not following the 1st grade principles. You
had a consequence for your action, and you filled out an “I will do Better”
paper with Miss Swing.
You will learn from your mistake and do your best tomorrow!
RED CARDSIf you were on red at the end of the day you pulled 3 cards for not being respectful, responsible, productive,
safe, or happy. You missed the rest of your recesses and you will miss them
tomorrow too. You also had to call home and explain that you had a bad
day.
You can turn your day around for tomorrow and try to earn back a
recess. I have faith in you and know that you will do AMAZING tomorrow!
PURPLE CARDSIf you received a purple card that
means you did AWESOME! You went above and beyond the 1st grade
principles!
You are a superstar!
If you get 10 purple cards you get to choose out of the prize box! Keep up
the GREAT work!
I’M EATING BREAKFAST… If you eat breakfast, you must enter the
building through the doors down by Mrs. Miller’s room
After breakfast you must go straight outside or straight to the library If you get caught wandering the hallways you will
pull a card and receive a consequence
IN THE MORNINGS…. When the bell rings, you need to come inside
immediately and go straight to the classroom! Teachers will NOT pick you up
Once in the classroom, the ‘morning song’ will start. While the morning song is going you have that time to
hang up your backpacks and coats Put your blue folder in the tray and your reading bag on
the table You get three passes then every time you forget you’ll miss 1
minute of recess You need to put your clothespin on hot or cold lunch You need to also tell a teacher if you have lunch money Use a ‘yellow’ voice
When the morning song is over you should be in your seats working on your morning project.
AT THE CARPET…
Sitting and being a good learner! Sitting on your pockets Hands, feet, and any objects are kept to yourself Lips are quiet Listening ears are turned on Eyes are on the speaker
IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE THE ROOM… You can only use the restroom if it is an EMERGENCY…
You need to use the restroom during RECESS time! If it is an emergency you need to walk over and move
your magnet to the bathroom column… If you’re going to take AR tests or get new library books
move your magnet to the library column If you need to see the nurse move your magnet to the
nurse column If you need to go to the office move your magnet to the
office column If you need a drink simply get up and walk to the sink,
get a quick drink 1, 2, 3 save some for me. 3, 2, 1 now you’re done!
ANY TIME you leave the room you need to move your magnet unless it is to lunch, recess, or our specials
IN YOUR DESK… If we are working on individual projects…
Use a ‘red’ voice Keep your items to yourself Keep your eyes to yourself Raise your hand if you need help
If we are working in small groups… Use a ‘yellow’ voice Make sure you have your items when we are finished Raise your hand if you need help
If we are doing something all together… Use a ‘green’ voice Wait your turn Raise your hand Listen to other people
MY PENCIL BROKE…
Quietly stand up and walk over to the pencil buckets
Take off the eraser (if its your own) and your pencil grip
Put your unsharpened pencil in the unsharpened box
Grab a new pencil out of the sharpened box Put your pencil grip and eraser on your new
pencil
STANDING IN LINE… When we are standing in line, we are getting
ready to go someplace. We will not leave the classroom until I see all students ready to go

READING WORKSHOP… Reading workshop is our reading group centers…There will be 5
centers! Independent

Word Work Use a ‘YELLOW’ voice Think about sounds and letters Try your hardest
Writing Use a ‘YELLOW’ voice Remember letters start at the TOP Try your best and take your time
Art Use a ‘YELLOW’ voice Do what is asked of you You are responsible for your mess
RECESS… We follow our 1st Grade Principles We follow school rules We stay safe We respect the teacher We “TREAT OTHERS THE WAY WE WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED”
WORK PLACES… Stay at your group Use a ‘YELLOW’ voice Remember to write down which place you
were at Take your folder with you Complete the entire activity before moving
on Have fun!
LUNCH ROOM AND THE LUNCH TABLE… The Lunch Room…
We stay in line We use a ‘yellow’ voice with our neighbors
The Lunch Table… We sit on both sides We do not save spots We use our fingers We ask politely for napkins and condiments
I’M DONE… When you think you are done, you have
really just begun! There is extra paper in your writing folders There is books in the reading area You can finish projects from earlier You can read your ‘reading bag’ books
END OF THE DAY… We get our items out of our mailboxes We color our place on our chart We leave our backpacks at our desks We go to the carpet for a story We grab our backpacks We line up at the door

WHAT DO WE DO IN AN EMERGENCY?
Fire drills, severe weather, evacuations, lock downs, and any
other emergency!
EMERGENCY… STAY CALM Listen to the teacher Immediately drop what you are doing and
line up quickly and quietly Follow your teacher to where you are going Stay in line and stay quiet When we are at our destination, get in line
and stay VERY quiet so we can take attendance
