As 2016 comes to a close, it provides time to reflect on the past year and evaluate your accomplishments. As you reflect, I hopethat you find that the Frankfort Park District was part of your year. Perhaps through a park visit, or maybe you learned a newskill, experienced a new place through a day trip or your child participated in a District program. As you plan for the coming year, consider participating in a program or event to enrich the year ahead. The District’s offeringsinclude programs for the all ages; toddler through adult. Offerings include wine tastings, painting parties, day and extendedtrips, youth camps, preschool & adult athletic leagues, fitness classes and more. The New Year provides an opportunity for newexperiences - Come join the fun at the Frankfort Park District! If you’re interested in a program that the District doesn’t currentlyoffer, please contact the office and let us know what you are looking to experience. No need to experience the winter blues, as winter arrives, the parks remain open. It’s a great time of year to experience the parksin a different way. Weather permitting, residents can enjoy sledding at Commissioners Park and/or ice skating at Main Park. Forupdates on the conditions of the ice rink, check the District’s website. P A R K I M P R O V E M E N T N E W S

NEW PLAYGROUND AT STONE CREEK PARKStone Creek Park is located at the intersection of Pine Ridge Drive and High Stone Way and is currentlyundeveloped. The Frankfort Park District has budgeted funds for a new multi-age playground, shade structureand benches to be installed at the park and is scheduled for Spring 2017. The residences are very excited forthis new addition.

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT:COMPOST BIN FOR GARDEN PLOT MEMBERSBrett Jennrich of Frankfort Boy Scout Troop 270 has constructeda composting bin alongside of the community garden plots atCommissioners Park as his final Eagle Scout project. Brettworked on and planned his Eagle Scout project for months and ithas now been completed and is in use. On August 28th Brett and agroup of 12 members from Troup 270, adult volunteers and assistedby Frankfort Park District staff built a compost bin by the communitygarden at Commissioners Park. It is located on the west edge of thegarden plots at Commissioners Park, at 22108 S. 80th Avenue.The compost bin is a welcomed addition and is being usedby garden plot members. The Frankfort Park District would liketo give a special thanks to Brett Jennrich for building the compostbin at Commissioners Park as his Eagle Scout project. WINTER OUTDOOR ACTIVITIESThis winter season the two ice rinks will return to Main Parkunder the lights and is open daily as weather permits. One icerink will be designated for free/open skate and the other is forice hockey. Concessions, skates and snow shoe rentals will beavailable at the north concession building. The sled hill lo-cated at Commissioners Park, features sledding under the lights and is open daily when there is snowon the ground. Lights will stay on until 9 pm. WelcomeNEW RECREATIONSUPERVISOR- MAURICE SULLIVANThe Frankfort Park District wouldlike to introduce and welcomeMaurice Sullivan as the Recreation

Supervisor. His primary responsibilities will include overseeing youthand adult athletics, various camps and tournaments. Maurice brings agreat balance of education and work experience in Parks and Recreationto the Park District. Maurice’s past duties as an Operational Supervisorincluded a wide range of Park District administrative, programming andmarketing practices and experiences. As an Internship-ProgramSpecialist for the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal heorganized and implemented a range of program services, and activitiesand provided guidance and role modeling to members and staff.Maurice received his Bachelor of Science degree (Major Recreation andPark Administration) from Illinois State University, in Normal, Illinois.

NEW OFFICE ASSISTANT- SUE REIDYWelcome Sue Reidy who has beenhired as the new Office Assistantfor the Frankfort Park District atthe Founders Community Centeroffice. Sue brings a great deal ofexperience from her past positonas Administrative Assistant/OfficeSupport for the Addison Park Dis-trict. Her primary responsibilitieswill include; answering and distributing phone calls, take in andprocess program registrations, assist staff with projects and generaloffice duties. Sue has an Associate’s Degree from Moraine ValleyCommunity College, is married and has 3 children, and recently movedto Peotone from Roselle. She grew up in Tinley Park and is happy to beback in the south suburbs.

OPERATION PLAYGROUND FOUNDATIONFort Frankfort, the Bark Park, Main Park basketball courts and the newfitness equipment at Bingham Park are just a few of the projects fundedby the Operation Playground (OP) Foundation. The Foundations’ mottois “Improving Life through Recreation.” The members of the Foundationare Frankfort residents who raise monies that are returned the communityof Frankfort through its projects.

Operation Playground Foundation has no administrative expenses anddoes not contribute any money to the Frankfort Park Districts operatingexpenses. Operation Playground accomplishes its goals by tapping thevolunteer spirit of Frankfort!

Operation Playground raises funds for the enhancement of the parks inFrankfort through annual fundraising events. Currently the Foundationhosts a golf outing that is held in September and monies are generatedthrough manning Fall Fest parking. In the upcoming year, the Foundationwill be looking to launch a new fundraiser and a new project.

Operation Playground prides itself in building the highest quality projects.In 2001, Fort Frankfort won the prestigious Governors Hometown Award.In 2007 the Bark Park was selected as one of the10 Best Dog Parks in theUnited Sates by Dog Fancy Magazine. Through the years the Foundationhas also donated $6,000 to Lincoln-Way Special Recreation.

ME TWO 2 YEARS This program will provide young children with the experience of socializingwith their peers and practice separating from parents. The children willenjoy age appropriate arts & crafts, music, stories, games and snacktime. The child must be 2 by September 1, 2017. Being toilet trained isNOT mandatory. A physical is required. Day: Tuesday & ThursdayTime: 9:00 -11:00 am OR 12:00 – 2:00 pmFee: $100/NR $105 per month

WEE WORKS 2.5 YEARSThis twice weekly program is perfect for young children anxious to meetfriends. The morning will be filled with play time, arts & crafts, stories,music and snack time. The child must be 2.5 years old by September 1,2017. Being toilet trained is NOT mandatory. A physical is required.Day: Wednesday & FridayTimes: 9:00-11:00 am OR 12:00 – 2:00 pmFee: $100/NR $105 per month

PLAY SCHOOL 3 YEARSThis program will provide time for young children to learn how to interactwith their peers. Fun activities help the children learn to share and followdirections. Colors, numbers, and the alphabet are introduced. The childmust be 3 years old by September 1, 2017 and MUST be toilet trained. Aphysical is required. Days: Tuesday & Thursdays Times: 8:45-11:15 am OR 12:15 – 2:45 pm Fee: $115/NR $120 per month

PREP SCHOOL 4 YEARSThis Kindergarten preparation program is for children who will be 4years old by September 1, 2017 and MUST be toilet trained. The curriculumincludes age appropriate activities for language arts, math science, motorskills, and socialization. Field trips are also taken. A physical is required. Days: Monday, Wednesday, & FridayTimes: 8:45-11:15 am OR 12:15 – 2:45 pmFee: $135/NR $140 per month

STEPPING STONES 4 YEARSThis class is for children who will be 4 years old by September 1, 2017and MUST be toilet trained. This 5 day program will focus on schoolreadiness skills of language arts, math, science, and fine motor skills.Emphasis is also placed on improving social skills. PRAIRIE CARE: BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE - KINDERGARTEN-5TH GRADE This partnership between the Park District and Frankfort School District 157-C provides before and after school care for 157-C students in grades K-5.The program is located at Grand Prairie School and is available as early as 6:30 AM until the start of school and again after school until 6:30 PM.Prairie Care is also available on early dismissal days and district holidays. FORT FRANKFORT ADVENTURES SUMMER DAY CAMP Fort Frankfort Adventures Day Camp is back for another awesomesummer. This day camp program is designed for children ages 6-11 yearsold. Our camp will provide plenty of outdoor activities, water days, arts& crafts, and a field trip each week. “DANCING THROUGH TIME”This recital presentation will be held on Sunday, May 21 at the Lincoln-WayEast High School Fine and Performing Arts Center. Family and friendsare invited to view this Recital performance by our talented Ballet, Tap,and Hip/Hop Jazz students.

***An additional costume fee (approximately $50) will be incurredfor those wishing to participate. There will also be a $20 recitalfee/family due at the time of registration.

Pre-Dance - Focus is on coordination and rhythm, while introducedin a creative and imaginative ways.

Beginning Dance - is the next step up from pre-dance. This classwill utilize the basics that were taught and add onto them. Arm positionswill be used more and with more ballet structure to it.

Dance Fusion - This class consists of ballet, tap, and jazz. Dancerswill have the opportunity to try all three forms of dance. Concentrationwill be on vocabulary, alignments and proper execution of movementand memorization.

Ballet 1 - This class is a formal ballet class. Advanced stretching andexercises will be given, along with barre work that will help in strengtheningcore work. This will then be utilized with center work.

Ballet II & III -Musicality will be emphasized along with balance andcoordination through the strengthening of the body.

Pointe -Dancing on pointe is the act of standing on the tips of the toeswhile performing steps from ballet. Also known as pointe work, it isperformed using hard–toed and stiff-shanked pointe shoes. Dancing onpointe requires strength and skill, so prior permission from instructor isrequired before students begin taking pointe classes. Must be enrolledin Ballet III in order to be on Pointe.

Tap - Emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to findrhythms and beats not only in music but in their whole bodies.

Jazz has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation ofcertain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accentsof musical rhythms. Jazz dance can take on many different characteristicsand styles, including Street Jazz, Percussive, Broadway, Contemporaryand Lyrical. Jazz classes can be patterned in any of these styles or acombination of them. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmicalaccuracy, and style. Each level of jazz is a continuation of the previouslevel and increases in difficulty.

he Garden Plot Program is an opportunity for individuals to bepart of a community gardening program. Residents and

non-residents participating in the program enjoy nature, plant flowers,grow fruits and vegetables for food, and get exercise from the practiceof gardening. Approximately 50 garden plots are available to rent on afirst come first served (one plot per family) basis. Plots measure 20 x 20feet and are located at Commissioners Park. The Garden Plot season isfrom May 1 – October 31 (Weather Dependant).

The Garden Plot Manual will be available at the Founders Community Cen-ter and on the Park Districts web-site: www.frankfortparks.org . Therules and guidelines within this manual ensure that all participatinggardeners have the opportunity for a positive gardening experience,that garden plot sites are a positive asset to the community and that allplots are used in a productivemanner. By following the rules and guidelines,gardeners show that they want the garden plot program to be animportant aspect in the community. All gardeners must agree to followthe rules and guidelines of the Garden Plot Program.

• All League deposits are non-refundable. There are NO refunds onleagues once the team rosters and/or schedules are made.

• A 50% refund will be given if notified prior to the second course meetingfor reasons other than a doctor-verified illness or injury.

• All refunds must be done in person at the park district office. They cannotbe completed over the phone.

• Full refunds are granted without penalty for: A refund that is initiatedby the Park District (i.e. low enrollment/canceled class) *With theexception of patrons who have registered on-line, the convenience feeis NON-refundable.

NSF RETURNED CHECK POLICY - For any check returned to thePark District for non-sufficient funds, the issuer must pay with cash tocover the check, pay any bank charges and fees and pay a $25 NSFsurcharge to the Park District.

PARTICIPATION POLICY - The Frankfort Park District assumes NOresponsibility for personal injury or loss of personal property for thoseparticipating in Park District-sponsored activities. It is urged that allparticipants have active medical insurance coverage.

PHOTOGRAPH POLICY/SOCIAL MEDIA - The Frankfort ParkDistrict uses pictures of program participants to highlight the manyrecreational activities available. We do not use identification in ourbrochure or other print opportunities. If you do not want a picture ofyourself or your child taken, please tell the instructor and/or the photographer.

INCLUSION - The Frankfort Park District welcomes participation inall programs by individuals with disabilities and special needs. TheFrankfort Park District works cooperatively with the Lincolnway SpecialRecreation Association (LWSRA) to facilitate successful participation forindividuals who request an inclusion aide. If you are asking for specialassistance for your child to participate in a Park District program, pleaseinform the Park District Staff at the time of registration. RENTAL INFORMATIONThe Founders Community Center is available for weddings, showers, parties,

meetings and all of your conference needs. Our classrooms, gymnasium

and Founders Room are perfect for groups of 5-150. The Founders Room

of the Founders Centermay be reserved six months prior to the scheduled

GUIDELINES FOR USE OF PARK DISTRICT FACILITIES• No persons shall use any Park District building facilities that are not

exclusively for the use of their function.

• No functions are to be held for the purpose of advertising or promotionof outside organizations without prior authorization.

• Any organization or group must supply their own equipment and maynot use Park District equipment unless prior permissionhas been granted.

• Special requests must be provided prior to activity for the use ofchairs, tables and any other equipment that you may deem necessary.

• No smoking allowed -- All Park District property is designated as aSmoke Free Environment.

• A fee will be charged in order to compensate for manpower, suppliesand insurance, which will be at the discretion of the Executive Director.

• Outside organizations must furnish the Park District with a certificateof insurance, naming the Park District as the additional insured.

• Participants are not to arrive earlier than the designated starting timelisted on the permit/rental agreement.

• Children must be supervised at all times with a Parent to Child ratioof 1:10.

• No improper language or conduct shall be displayed, no damage shallbe done to Park property nor shall any person engage in any indecentact or other personal behavior not accepted in public areas.

• No glass objects shall be brought into or used within the park systemwhich might shatter and cause damage to otherusers of the park facilitieswithout Park District consent.

• All food, beverages and decorations must be cleaned up with wastebags and disposed of prior to leaving.

• No firearms or fireworks shall be carried into the building.

• All bathroom facilities are to be free of litter.

• All Park facilities shall be put back in order and all trash cleared outof rented area.

• You must be 21 years of age or older to rent any Park District facility.

LOOK FOR THE STAFF SHIRTThere will be a Park District Building Supervisor present for every activityat the Founders Community Center and all Park District programs heldat Hickory Creek Middle School, Chelsea Intermediate School, GrandPrairie Elementary School and Lincoln-Way East Field House. They areresponsible for monitoring the building and assisting when needed.They are easily identified by their Park District shirt.

PAVILION RENTALSAll pavilions at Commissioners Park and Main Park shall require a permitfor use by 10 or more persons. There must be a minimumof 1 adult per every10 children. The maximum number of personsper pavilion shall be 50. Usermust complete the Application for Use of Facilities form provided by thePark District and pay fees accordingly. Rental of a pavilion includes thepavilion ONLY. Rentals do not include playgrounds, ballfields or any otherrecreational area. All rules and ordinances of the Park District must befollowed and will apply to pavilion users. Motorized vehicles of any kindmay not be driven by the public on property owned or leased by the FrankfortPark District except on designated roadways. Only authorized Park Districtvehicles may be driven in the parks.

BECOME A PERMANENT PART OF THE PLAYGROUNDSeveral years ago, Operation Playground installed a picket fence at FortFrankfort that not only provides safety and security for our children butoffers the community a way to remember or honor a loved one ororganization. For a $35 donation, you can have your name or a nameyou choose engraved on one of the wooden pickets in the fence. This isan opportunity to become a part of this amazing play space that wasdesigned and built by volunteers in the community. Years from now yourchildren and grandchildren will enjoy searching for your family namesand will remember that you were part of this community event.

OPERATION PLAYGROUND FOUNDATIONOperation Playground Foundation sponsored the creation of the FrankfortBark Park at Commissioners Park, which opened in May 2007. Fundraisingis on-going in order to provide additional enhancements to the Bark Parkand other parks. BENCH MEMORIAL DONATIONThe Frankfort Park District also offers a memorial black iron park benchwhich can be placed in the park of your choice, with Park District approval.A personal plaque will be attached to the bench. The donation fee is $1,000.Please stop by the Founders Center for more information and to see a sampleof the bench in the entrance hallway.

TREE MEMORIAL DONATIONSThe Frankfort Park District is proud to continue a MemorialTree Program toplant trees in parks for all Frankfort residents to enjoy. Through thisprogram, you can honor or remember a person, an event or an organizationby having a tree planted in their name. A tree can be given to celebratesomeone’s birthday, to memorialize a deceased, commemorate a specialevent in your life or recognize an organization and their accomplishments.

A donation of $350 will purchase a tree in a park designated by the donoror honoree. Trees will be planted in the spring and fall each year. In addition,the year, along with the name of the person, event or organization beinghonored, will be proudly displayed on Plaque at the base of the tree. Thisprogram benefits the community as a whole, and the tree can be enjoyedfor years to come.

For all information regarding the Living Tree Program, contact the ParkDistrict office in the Founders Community Center at 469-9400. The ParkDistrict will assist you in selecting a park where trees are needed.
