POTTS BEATS CAMPBELL m
Pacific Coast Fighter Is Knocked ' Out by the Clever Mia-
Z\^ neapolis Man. *\ *t*
"fl
P a t Campbell, a Pacific coast (flght-•r , otherwise known as "Bruiser" Harrison, was aefeated by Jim Potts of Minneapolis last night in a prize light held at 252 Second avenue S. Just a second before Campbell's seconds threw up the sponge, Chief of Police Conroy stepped to the ringside and ordered the fight stopped. " Campbell's men did not hear the c h i e f s order, and tossed the sponge, the referee awarding the decision t>*Pqtis.
The Minneapolis man was the > -gressor from start to finish. , In the first round he sent Hamilton to the floor, and continued to Jab him until the seventh. Both came up strong in this round, but Potts quickly got in a left to the jaw which sent Hamilton down. The referee had counted three, and Hamilton was trying to rise, when the sponge was thrown up at the same t ime that Chief Conroy interfered.
The first preliminary was a six-round go between Kid Selby and Kid Rose. They fought fast, and the referee called it a draw. Ben Tremble was scheduled for a six-round bout with Jack Harvey, a local man. The referee stopped the fight in the second, giving the decision to Tremble.
"Twin" Jack Sullivan of Boston gave "Philadelphia Jack" O'Brien one of the hardest battles of his career last night at Philadelphia. The fight was judged a draw, as both m e n were
.•till on their feet at the end of the I sixth round, the scheduled limit of the bout, and ready to continue.
Sullivan had so much the better of the first and fourth rounds that O'Brien was compelled to hold on to avoid punishment. In the first round h e cleanly knocked the Philadelphian down. The Boston man also had slightly the better of the second and
^third rounds, but weakened in the fifth.
In the sixth O'Brien came to the center of the ring strong and confident. He forced the fighting and had Sullivan almost helpless when the gong sounded, announcing the end of the bout.
O'Brien's showing in the last round offset his work in the previous rounds, and the experts about the ringside considered that a draw would have been a lust decision if the laws of the state would have permitted the referee to give official judgment.

The decisive contest for the football championship of the twin city high schools will take place Friday afternoon. The two managements have been at variance in regard to the place for the game, North high insisting that it be played on North high field, while the South Siders prefer Northrop field. The matter came up for final settlement this afternoon.
Both teams are confident of victory to-morrow. Bernhagen's men have taken things easy for several weeks, but have been working hard during this wek in preparation for the game, realizing that they will have to extend themselves to the limit. South high has suffered somewhat from injuries, but all her men will be in good shape to-morrow. As this contest will settle the championship finally, a crowd of several thousand persons is expected to attend.
