    The Department has developed a web based wage survey to update the Departments databaseof direct hourly rates paid by consultants to establish, by discipline, the direct hourly rates for

    personnel who may work on ODOT projects. This data is used by the Department to establishaverage labor costs for use in project cost analysis. The last such survey of wage rates wascompleted in 2005. All firms prequalified in engineering or environmental categories arerequired to complete this survey by January 14, 2013. Position descriptions are included forEngineering, Environmental and Planning categories. 52 position codes are included in thesurvey with the descriptions provided below. Please leave blank any positions which do notpertain to your firm.

    Please note that the data submitted by each firm will remain confidential, although the summaryof all information submitted and statistical analyses of the data will become public information.Please call Lyle Flower at (614) 466-7618 should you have questions.

    Submittal Requirements

    Please utilize the Staff Wage Data Form included below as a link to provide the followinginformation for staff that would normally be assigned to work on ODOT projects.

    1. The number of employees included in each position code. Generally, only one code ispermitted per individual, so exercise care in selecting the most appropriate code.

    2. The current average HOURLY labor rate (not a billing rate, which normally includesfringes, overhead and profit), for the group of employees included in the position code.

    3. The beginning effective date for the stated average hourly rates.

    Code PRINCIPAL - OFFICER POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    1. Principal: President/Managing Partner, Executive Vice President and Principal/Officer -Operations. Responsible for day to day direction of the organization includingformulating policies to achieve overall firm objective, the full range of operations or majorsegment of company activity, and the day-to-day administration of the operations staff ormajor operations work unit.

    NON-PRINCIPAL (MANAGEMENT) POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    2. Department Managers: Responsible fo planning and directing the activities of a disciplineor functional work group including the development and implementation of all departmentstandards and procedures.

    3. Project Managers: Responsible for directing activities associated with specific projectsfrom inception to completion. Acts as the client contact person for these specific projects.

    25. Party Chief - Oversees work of field crew, conducting a complete assignment or a portionof a large and diverse project. Organizes field operations to ensure efficiency andaccuracy. Performs surveying duties not requiring registration as a ProfessionalSurveyor.

    26. Chief Surveyor - Plans, organizes, and directs work of one or more survey parties

    engaged in determining precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines,areas, and contours for construction, mapmaking, and land division, titles, and otherrecords to obtain needed data for surveys.     Archaeology

    39. Principal Investigator / Senior ArchaeologistDevelops the research design and methods for implementing archaeological projects;oversees the execution of the fieldwork; directs the analysis of cultural materials collected;prepares or directs the preparation of archaeological reports; is responsible for the quality

    of archaeological reports; coordinates with the project manager, the Principal ArchitecturalHistorian, and the Senior Historian.

    Requirements: Must meet the Secretary of the interiors professional qualificationstandards for Archaeology and/or be certified by a professional archaeological associationsuch as the Register of Professional Archaeologists.

    44. Archeological Technician IUnder the direct supervision of archaeological crew chiefs and under the generalsupervision of field director/project archaeologist performs unskilled and semi-skilledtasks at archaeological field sites. Assists crew chief in activities associated with theexcavation of project areas and found features. Walks over project searching forarchaeological materials such as historic and prehistoric remains. Excavates, screens,

    back-fills excavated areas. Assists in preparation of sketch maps and forms, and fieldphotography. Conducts simple surveys using compass, topographical map and aerialphotographs. Determine the exact locations of sites and marks them on maps and/oraerial photographs. Records information on archeological site survey form andprepares simple reports.     Provides leadership to at least three lower graded Archeological Aids or Technicians.Leadership responsibilities are regular and recurring and occupy about 25 percent of thework time. As crew leader, assures the work assignments of employees are carried out.

    Assigns tasks, monitors status, and assures timely accomplishment of workload.Instructs employees in special tasks and job techniques. Checks work in progress andamends or rejects work not meeting established standards. Reports performance,progress, etc., of employees to supervisor.

    47. Cartographic Technician

    Provides technical assistance to professional Cartographers in connection with theconstruction or revision of maps and charts. Work involves the solution of technicalproblems that require primarily the application of a practical knowledge of the methodsand techniques by which maps and charts are constructed. Performs any or acombination of duties such as collecting, evaluating and selecting source materials;compiling information from source materials and developing a plan for using theinformation in accordance with product specifications; obtaining reliable measurements ofearths surface features such as elevations and distances from photographs by usingphotogrammetric techniques and equipment; using drafting tools and automatedequipment to make maps and charts; assembling aerial tools and automated equipment tomake maps and charts; assembling aerial photographs into mosaics; and reviewing andediting map and chart manuscripts.

    48. Curation/Laboratory SupervisorSupervises the cleaning and correct cataloging of artifacts retrieved, arranges for thecuration of artifacts with a permanent curatorial facility, oversees protection of artifactsand documentation from project to ensure security.Requirements: Must have a degree in anthropology, history, or a closely related field orequivalent experience, at least four months of supervised laboratory work and six monthsof additional laboratory work.

    49. Field AssistantAssists the Field Supervisor with the implementation of the work plan. Assists the FieldSupervisor with the organization of the activities of the project including but not limited to

    logging in bags, checking test unit and feature forms, keeping the photo log, ensuring thatall equipment is organized and assisting with all other field activities. May be required toassist with the organization and analysis of cultural materials and preparation of maps andtables.Requirements: Must have a degree in anthropology , history, or a closely related field orequivalent experience, at least two months of supervised fieldwork and three months ofadditional fieldwork.
