Notification of wild species health Notification of wild species health situation to the OIEsituation to the OIE

• OIE-listed diseases • Ex. of notifiable LPAI (H5 and H7 in poultry only)• Other diseases notifiable in wildlife (if applicable)

• OIE early warning system and monitoring system consider wild species to enter the quantitative data of the affected animals in an outbreak.

WAHIS has always considered the notification of OIE-listed diseases in wildlife.

The system will allow the possibility to add in a box of free text another

species (if it is not in the list), indicating the Latin name and common name.

When a user adds a new name

the OIE staff will verify it and after validation, introduce it into

ConceptConcept

• Improve notification and quality of information in wild species

• Be in line with the actual six-monthly reporting procedure for OIE listed-diseases

• Report specific non OIE listed diseases affecting wild animals

• Collecting annual data once a year • Through a template divided into two six-month periods• Requesting for

- qualitative data and - quantitative data (by month or six-

month and by first administrative division or for the entire country)

This questionnaire was organised to collect annual data once a year but divided into six-months period to be in-line with the actual six-monthly reporting procedure:

- qualitative data and

- quantitative data (by month or six-month and by first administrative division or for the entire country)

The process of improving the system for wildlife has started in 2008 through the new questionnaire in Excel file that has been redesigned to take into account further new improvements and start the integration between WAHIS and data

previously collected in the old questionnaire.

It was a good opportunity for focal points for wildlife disease notification to know about the ongoing changes to prepare countries to collect needed requested

data in the future.
