The Waikele Family Focus is a monthly publication of the Waikele Elementary School Parent-Community Networking Center (PCNC). Geographical Exceptions Forms

Geographic Exception (G.E.) Request Forms may be turned into the Front Office starting January 1st through March 1st for the school year 2018-2019. G.E. forms may be obtained at the Front Office or from any DOE school.

If you are currently a student at Waikele Elementary: 1. Fill out Section 1 of the G.E. form 2. Fill out an MVA Form 3. Attach a self-addressed stamped envelope to each G.E. form 4. Return G.E. form, MVA Form, and the self- addressed stamped envelope to the Front Office

For students enrolling in kindergarten, you must be 5 years old by July 31, 2018. Parent/Guardian must reside within the Waikele Elementary geographical boundary.

New students that reside within the Waikele Elementary School geographical area: 1. Follow steps 1-4 above 2. Fill out a student enrollment form at the front office. 3. Provide a Birth Certificate 4. Provide a current proof of residency: cable, electric, water, telephone (land-line) bill, or lease/rental agreement.

Kindergarten Registration 2018-2019

Registration packets will be available in the Front Office during regular business hours starting February 1, 2018.

REMINDER: (1) Parent/guardian must reside within the Waikele School District and (2) Your child must be 5 years old by July 31, 2018.

Early Release Reminder When signing your child(ren) out early from school: a. Come to the Front Office to sign your child(ren) out (PLEASE BRING A PICTURE ID) b. Please wait in the office. A staff member will bring your child(ren) to you

Bus Passes Parents/Guardians, please be advised that the bus company WILL pick up students on the way to school, even if they do not have their bus pass.

However, students who do not have their bus pass WILL NOT be allowed to ride the bus home. Students should call their parents to bring the bus pass to school, or give them a ride home. Students may also buy a replacement bus pass for $5.00 (five dollars) at the Front Office. Cash only, please.

Drop Off/Pick Up Please drop off your child(ren) so that they are seated in class and ready to begin the day at 7:50 a.m. Please pick them up by 2:25 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and by 12:55 p.m. on Wednesdays. There is NO adult supervision for students after 2:25 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and after 12:55 on Wednesdays. Students who cannot be picked up on time, should be enrolled in the A+ YMCA After School program. Thank you for your support.

Lunch Loan Reminders

Please pay lunch loans by the next school day or please send a home lunch with your child. The money belongs to School Food Services, not Waikele Element-ary School. Please call the Front Office regarding your child(ren’s) balance at any time.

Breakfast and Lunch Waikele Elementary wants to ensure that each student has a healthy, nutritious day.

To maintain a balance in your child's lunch account, cash payments can be made through your child's teacher or in the office.

If your child is not purchasing a school lunch, please send your child to school with a home lunch.

Request for Administration/Storage of Medication in School

No medication will be stored in the Health Room or administered by the authorized Public Health Nursing Branch and/or DOE personnel without the completion of form PHN/SHS36, Rev. 5/12, and other appropriate forms which can be obtained by the School Health Aide. A consultation will be provided by our Public Health Nurse. When these steps are complete, the Principal will have final approval.

Medication must be in a container/vial dispensed by the Pharmacist with instructions "FOR SCHOOL USE" with the name of the student, name of the medication, dosage, strength, time of administration, and name of prescribing physician.

This form is good for the current school year and needs to be renewed yearly. Parent/legal guardian is responsible to obtain the form for the following school year.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Act Students eligible for McKinney-Vento Homeless Act services between October 1, 2005 and June 26, 2008 have the right to request to be transferred to a school previously attended during that period of time, if feasible.

Box Tops For Education

Before you throw away your cereal boxes, food packages, toilet/paper towel outer wraps, etc., please look for the Box Tops For Education labels, cut them out and turn it in to the PCNC office or your child’s teacher. Please write your child’s name/teacher on the envelope or bag and address it to PCNC. If your child turns in more than 15 labels, they will get a pencil. Mahalo to Pacific Aviation Museum

Grade 6 would like to thank Pacific Aviation Museum for sharing The Barnstorming Tour presentation with us on Monday, January 8. Students enjoyed controlling the Flight Simulator, learning about Newton’s Third Law of Motion, experimenting with Bernoulli’s Principle, and manipulating the Wind Tunnel. The students had a lot of fun, it was a great experience!

1. WAIKELE ROCKS FAMILY FUN NIGHT – Join us for a fun night of ROCK PAINTING in Hale Hanai on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 5:30pm. Take pride in our school by donating your painted rock or feel free to take your fun creation home. All families and friends of Waikele Elementary School are welcome to attend! Event fee is $3.00 at the door, which will provide you with one rock for painting. Additional rocks are available for purchase for only $1.00 each. BRING A POTLUCK DISH TO SHARE! 2. SPRING GENERAL MEETING – Join us for our annual Spring General Meeting in Hale Kukui on Wednesday, February 7th at 5:30pm. We will discuss ongoing PTSO support projects to Waikele Elementary School and academic programs, accreditation updates, upcoming construction updates, and other topics of interest that concern you and your student.
