Continued from page 1Mark says it was fantastic for

the students to see people who had gone to their school doing really well and achieving their dreams.

“That’s a really powerful message.”

“They are already doing a great service to the rest of the students.”

Mark says the messages Heather and Enoka told the students were exactly right.

“They needed to hear- stay in school, keep up your study, do what the teacher says and have a dream.”

Mark has a picture of the two ex Arakura students hanging in the staff room.

“I’ve put that up as a goal.”Mark says he just wants the

children in the school to do well and stay in school.

“My dream is that we can achieve.”

Head girl Heather Smith says there is a lot of talent in the school.

“You can already see some of the kids are going to be good leaders.”

She gave the school a simple message: dream big and go for it.

“If you want to do some-thing… then you can do it.

There’s nothing stopping you.” Heather hopes the children

Arakura take something from their speeches.

“Even if I inspire one kid to start following their dreams that would be the biggest reward.”

Heather has her eyes set on being a lawyer while Enoka wants to be a Police offi cer.

Enoka inspired the school to listen to their teachers and keep studying and ended his speech with some encourage-ment.

“It just shows you that Ara-kura is the best school.”

He says the school did a lot for him and it was cool to visit.

“It’s a good experience to see how well the school has improved.”

Ryan Wereta, eight, is one of the large group of children encouraged to aim for being a head student one day.

“They enjoyed themselves when they were here when they were little.”

“It feels like it could be lots of fun helping people.”

He says he felt inspired by the visit.

Josiah Seia, 8, is good friends with Ryan but says that won’t stop him from one day also going for head boy at Wainuio-

mata High School. “I want to help people.” Aiming for the future role of

head girl at Wainuiomata High School is 10-year-old Samantha Johnson who says she dreamed about becoming head girl but after today she really wants to.

She says she enjoyed hearing Heather speak about being head girl.

“Maybe I could carry that speech on one day.”

She says being head girl is about seeing other people happy.

“I like seeing people smile and laugh and it makes me happy.”

Ashleigh Peebles, 10, agrees and says the speeches encouraged her to dream.

“It inspired me more to do the things I want.”

Students inspire primary school

By Rhiannon McConnellA container of bikes free

for youth to use on the Wai-nuiomata Trail Project is set to open this Saturday as part of Showtime at Life City Church.

Hutt City Secret Level Youth Centre manager Simon Gilbert says he began thinking about it 10 years ago when he asked a group of students why they didn’t cycle.

“They basically said because they can’t afford them.

“I thought that was pretty sad.”

The avid cyclist has now secured a container to be placed near the Wainuiomata Trail Project Park and filled with bikes for the kids to borrow.

“We have a wonderful trail system here in Wainui, it’s really good.”

Simon says the bikes provide a way to cycle for young people who cannot their own bike.

The plan is to have 10-20 bikes in the container along with a workshop.

The container is set to open at Showtime on Saturday.

Next year they want to build a deck and an awning for it.

The qualifi ed bike mechanic also teaches kids to build bikes in schools.

“That’s part of what we are trying to do.”

The container project is part of Biketec, a company started by Simon to teach youth all about bikes.

Simon was inspired after read-ing an article in Spoke maga-zine about people in California working with youth through bikes.

He started putting together bikes from bits of scrap bikes after a few students were having trouble getting to their study.

“I said to a few of them, I could build you a bike.”

He and fi ve volunteers now work with the Hutt City Coun-cil’s Sustainability Team to build bikes for youth and get them involved in cycling.

They teach bike maintenance and cycling skills to young people.

“We basically build bikes for kids.”

By Shannon SweetmanScience was the subject at hand when

Fernlea Primary School students visited the Science Roadshow held in Lower Hutt last Thursday.

The Fonterra Science Roadshow is a nation-wide, travelling event that aims to get students and teachers more interested in science and science careers by giving them practical demonstrations and set-ting up interactive exhibits.

Students are treated to two 10-minute long practical demonstrations, and then are allowed free rein to try out any of the 70 interactive exhibits set up, which included a bumper car, touch screen computers and Geiger counters.

Coordinators Ian Kennedy and Shane Kingston have been running the road-show together for the last seven years, although the event itself is now 25 years old.

“It’s a huge eye-opener for the kids in

terms of science and hands on experi-ence.

“It’s about exciting them, and their teachers, about science and science-related careers,” Mr Kennedy says.

The event is held at a selected host school in each district or area, which then provides student helpers to in-troduce and explain some of the more complicated exhibits to visiting school groups.

Fernlea school principal Walter Gor-don says that the roadshow is a really good opportunity to encourage students to become more interested in science.

“It’s a very good thing. It gives them the opportunity to see science in action, and to give some really hands-on type science activities a go.”

The event, sponsored by Fonterra, runs every year from May through to November, and is open to any school in the country.

By Rhiannon McConnellThis weekend schools

across Wainuiomata will come together to show the community what they have to offer, as part of the very fi rst Showtime held at Life City Church.

Showtime organizer and Wainuiomata High School teacher Simon Croft says Showtime is about showing the community what the schools have to offer.

“This is our talent. This is what we’ve got. We have some amazing talent here.”

Simon got involved after realizing if he wanted to see something change he needed to do it.

“I got sick of people bag-

ging and not saying, ‘what am I doing to make things better?’”

He says often people only hear about the bad things that are happening in the schools.

“What we actually have involved here is an awful lot of kids doing well.

“We want the community to be aware of what the kids are doing in the school.”

Showtime includes schools from across Wainuioomata and Simon says they have had a really good reaction from the schools.

They will have community stands showing jewellery, cakes, and a hospitality area with a display of cupcakes.

The music department is

also using it as an opportunity for their fi nals.

The school is also framing art and photography from students to sell.

The school can also see what the community has to offer.

“We also need to get the schools to recognise the resources that are held within the community and how by integrating these two values/resources we are better able to sup-port and educate those we actually here for.”

Simon says since it is the fi rst time Showtime has run he is not expect-ing too much but he wants it to grow each year.

“I’m not looking for it to be big or fl ash I just want to get the com-munity talking.

“We expect the show to grow in size and complexity as more people in the community become involved.”

His year 13 PBT (project based technology) students are working hard to make it happen and are building a stage for the event.

“We actually have one of the best technology departments.

“We really do punch a lot higher than our weight.”

Showtime is taking place next Saturday, September 21 at Life City Church and is starting at 1pm.

Amalia Lipidis, Taylor Giles and Matthew Markland are working on the stage set for Showtime this Saturday.

By Shannon SweetmanThirty-four Wainuiomata Primary students

had been practicing for months to wow the crowds at ArtSplash last Friday, in the fi nal performance of the night.

ArtSplash is a week and a half long festival that brings together art work and dance, drama and music performances from schools across the Wellington region.

The school’s dance, with a theme of friend-ship, was designed and choreographed by the Year 4, 5 and 6 students themselves.

Ngarangi Sadlier, 10, and Trinity Te Maari-Te Kawa, 11, were two of the eight students involved in putting together the choreography and songs.

“We were both in ArtSplash two years ago, so we were quite excited to do it again.

“When we found out that it was about friendship, we practiced moves based on our own friendships, and what we could do with buddies,” Ngarangi said.

Most of the choreographed moves were based on partner work and dancing in groups, and combined hip-hop moves with creative dance styles.

Teacher in charge Francis McCarthy said that the students had been practicing for the last three months for their big night.

“They’ve done a fantastic job. We’ve had a

bit of a challenge because our hall is being renovated, so we’ve had to practice in classrooms and outside.

“One of our songs is with umbrel-las, and we’ve had several break-ages just from wind gusts.”

The children also designed and

made their own costumes, featuring labeled t-shirts and ribbons, Mrs McCarthy said.

The students will do a repeat per-formance of the dance this Saturday 21st at Wainuiomata’s Life City Church on Parkway Road.

The theme for the Au-gust meeting of the Gar-den Club for Garden Club General Meeting August was a fun night which was centred around the Royal Birth of Prince George.

This involved 3 quiz-zes on the Royal Fam-ily which kept everyone delving into their royal knowledge and there were lots of laughs with the answers.

The quiz was followed by a lovely supper of Sponge cake and scones - a right royal spread!

www.vote.co.nzAUTHORISED BY MARGARET WILLARD 58 WRIGHT ST, WAINUIOMATA

Local body elections are always important because Council activities directly affect our everyday lives. Think of water, roads, drainage, parks, rubbish collection, local planning, and controlling nuisances like noise, dogs, litter.

The elections of 2013 are especially important for our future.Local Government Amalgamation• Whether or not Wainuiomata becomes part of a very large Wellington city is still undecided. The community needs a voice for ongoing local representation and council elections that don’t depend on big money from business or political parties.

Local Alcohol Plan• Hutt City Council is still working on the Local Alcohol Plan. I will continue to work to limit the number of liquor stores in the community.

Community Boards• The future of Community Boards will be decided on in the next three years (if we stay as we are). I will speak to not only keep our boards, but to empower them to better engage with the community through projects that bring people together.

You should receive your voting papers from this Friday. Have your say by ticking and posting by 12 October.

By Shannon SweetmanThe Wainuiomata community has been

paying tribute to Nora King (pictured left), the well-known face of Fitzroy Tavern on The Strand, after her sudden passing just over two weeks ago.

Mrs King had worked at the tavern for 42 years. Starting off in the humble position of a cleaner and working her way up to duty manager, she had been at the establishment almost since the place fi rst opened up in the 1960s.

Fitzroy Tavern’s owner Hayden Wilby said she made quite an impression on him in the

six years he had worked with her. “She was a hard-case. A very hard

worker and very loving and caring towards everyone.”

Mrs King, who came from a family of 14, had become a regular fi xture in the community, and was well-known for always talking about her grandchildren.

“She was a very special lady to everyone. She was everyone’s aunty – everyone called her aunty, except for the old fellas who called her Mrs King,” Mr Wilby said.

He said that everyone had been devastated to hear about her passing, and that he still

has customers coming in to the tavern looking for her.

“She had been in and out of the hospital for several months, but she kept it very quiet. She didn’t want anyone knowing.”

He planned to put a tribute up to her behind the bar.

“We’re going to frame up a photo of her and put her manager’s license up next to it so she can watch over us for the next 40 years.”

Mrs King’s service was held on September 3rd, and was attended by family and friends from across the country.

She will be well missed by the community.

By Shannon SweetmanTake a trip down memory lane

with the Wainuiomata Historical Church on Coast Road, to one of the biggest weddings ever held at the church.

The marriage of George Er-nest Christian Hansen and Mary Frances Jensen occurred on Sep-tember 8th 1909, just over 104 years ago to the day today.

Both bride and groom belonged to two of Wainuiomata’s promi-nent pioneer families, and in fact the bride’s family were one of the areas’ original settlers back in the 1850s.

The Hansen-Jensen wedding was of such importance that the day was effectively a public holiday for those in the area, as

most of the community attended the event, and it was covered in the following week’s local newspaper.

President of the Wainuiomata Pioneer Church Preservation So-ciety Joyce Lockyer says that the wedding is just another example of the church’s connection to Wainuiomata history.

“It’s the third oldest church in the Wellington area - it has ties to almost everybody in the valley in one way or another.

“You can see that where the wedding party originally stood at the church is now part of the graveyard – and it quite probably houses some of the party in it.”

The names Hansen and Jensen are still connected to the valley, and members of the Hansen fam-

By Rhiannon McConnell A Wainuiomata woman’s dream

for all children to have access to horses has lead to her starting a Saddle Club on her rural lifestyle block.

Sarah Thrasher says she wants to make riding accessible to people who can’t afford to buy a horse.

“There are a lot of kids out there and a lot of adults who just don’t have the opportunity.

“I think horses need to be ac-cessible”

The dream comes from a very personal place for the rider of 20 years who begged her parents to let who ride when she was six and once they stopped paying for the lessons she saved to pay for them herself.

“All my pocket money went to riding lessons.”

Sarah says she spent every

weekend out at the stables as a child and can remember being eight and calling all the pony clubs trying to fi nd one that would let her come along just to watch.

She performed as a busker to afford her fi rst pony when she was 12.

That fi rst pony still has a home at Sarah’s property, Longridge Stables.

“She’s outlasted every boyfriend I’ve ever had.”

She already teaches a few kids casually but would like to start an official pony club for kids who can’t afford to own their own horse.

“It makes me really happy doing it.”

Sarah has been considering the idea for a year now but did not realise how many people would be interested.

“Horses are pretty amazing

creatures and people love them.”Sarah says riding as taught her

a lot. “Every day if you pay attention

they [horses] have stuff to teach you.”

Sarah says she is not in it to make money but just to offer the service and make enough to feed her horses.

“I love talking to people who love horses.”

She has plans to resurface the rid-ing arena, to provide all year riding,

with any extra money. There are six horses at Longridge

Stables on Upper Fitzherbert Road, fi ve of which Sarah owns.

Sarah is starting the club these holidays with a three day intro to horses running from October 1st to 3rd. The three days will cost $60 and focus on catching, saddling, leading, brushing, riding, position and basic equipment.

“It’s got to be fun and it’s got to be safe.”

Hutt City roads have just been rated some of the safest roads in New Zealand to drive on, and the likelihood of being involved in a car crash here is much less than other roads around the country.

Hutt City Council representative Jan Simmons says it’s because the engineer-ing staff in Hutt City stick to NZTA guidelines.

“Our roads are very well maintained, but it’s also a combination between the roads and the drivers,” Ms Simmons

says.“The drivers in Hutt City are good and

stick by the rules.”She says the council have done a lot

of work to put skid resistant surfaces on the roads.

“But people still take corners too fast,” she says.

Ms Simmons says there are still a high rate of crashes with pedestrians and cyclists.

Part of the new Drive Social campaign

is thought to help this, by reducing the number of vulnerable road users.

Hutt City Council Communications and Marketing Advisor, Darian Huston says drivers still need to make it a habit to slow down when approaching pedes-trian crossings or when passing cyclists.

“Double check for approaching cy-clists and motorcyclists at intersections - they’re not seen as easily as larger vehicles,” he says.

FOR COUNCIL

Dear Ed,It’s a tragedy Friends Who Care is going to

close as we need a facilitated base for people with disabilities in Wainiomata.

In some of our Centres the staff are not trained to understand neurological or psychiatric impairments.

To make it worse the funding is not available and is being reduced for providers, making it diffi cult to survive.

We need a facility based in Wainuiomata to deal with disability issues because of the distance of travel to the Hutt or Wellington.

The money for vans will only last for a certain time and Education on disability should come from an offi ce of Disability.

Is mental Health properly fund in the Community?

One the problems is we do not understand the Social model when it comes to disability so how can we educate about disability or mental health .

There is a saying we live on the smell of oily rag but for the people at Friends Who Care there is no rag in the oil to smell.

Regards,Mike Grigg

Did you know that:• A steam locomotive operated in Wainuiomata in the 1880’s• We supplied the bulk of Wellington City’s water for almost 80 years?• We once had the second longest tunnel in NZ? it’s still in the top 10.• People walked through another tunnel to get to Lower Hutt?• 60 years ago, Wainuiomata was one of the fastest growing districts in the country?• Development was driven by private enterprise, not State?• By 1968, it was the 31st biggest town in the country?• It had all the infrastructure, but wasn’t allowed to become a town?• Our population has declined since 1978. Why?

The answers, and many more, are all contained in a series of panels telling the history of Wainuiomata from 1839 to 2006. If you want to learn more about the special place in which we live, and it’s unique history.

Clean up the Valley

Ben McLennan Tarryn Reay, 6

Selina Lorenz. 8.

Angie Lorenz

A group of volunteers who helped clean up Wainuiomata.

By Ruby Harfi eld A group of dedicated Wainuio-

mata residents gave up their sunny Saturday to pick up rubbish as part of Keep Hutt City Beautiful Week.

About 15 residents attended last Saturday's clean-up, which is in its second year, and picked up over ten bags of rubbish at Hugh Sinclair Park and surrounding areas.

Gilbert Hadfi eld, who has been living in Wainuiomata for 40 years, says it is sad how much rubbish there is in the parks and he came along help make it right.

Rotarian Joy Tedder says these sorts of evens are enjoyable and clearing the rubbish would prevent it going into the stream.

“It's good for us to do something for the community and meet like minded people.”

Another resident Angie Lorenz, originally from Switzerland, says doing things like this helps raise awareness.

“Even people who just drove past us had smiles on their faces.”

It is also a great think for her children to learn what happens if they dropped rubbish; someone else

would have to pick it up.“I thought it would be nice as a

family to do something good for the community.”

Roland Lorenz, who came along with his family, says there is some-thing liberating about giving back to the community.

His sons had such a good time in the fresh air they did not mind they were missing out on playing computer games, he says.

Rima Workman says she often goes to Hugh Sinclair Park with her children and ends up having to pick up rubbish that is lying around.

These sorts of activities help because people start to become more aware of what they are doing, she says.

Professionals real estate agent Ben McLennan provided a sausage sizzle for the hungry volunteers at the end.

After two hours of hard work, peo-ple enjoyed a sausage and completed a litter quiz.

Tarryn Reay, 6, and Deidre Doug-las tied in fi rst place for the quiz and being from the same family they both shared the prize.

The clean-up was organised by councillor Margaret Willard, in as-sociation with Hutt City Council and Keep New Zealand Beautiful.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful pro-vided bags and gloves for the occa-sion.

What do you love about Wainuiomata? Our natural beauty and the passionate people

who make up our community.Do you support a subdivision at the end of

Upper Fitzherbert Road? And the proposed road to Naenae? Why or why not?

Two things are certain: 1) Wainuiomata needs a second access road for emergencies if the hill is closed for what ever reason 2) We need to reverse the current trend of a declining population.. Today we have 550 less people liv-ing in Wainuiomata than what we did in 1996. Statistics NZ also forecasts that Lower Hutt will grow by only 2% over the next 20 years, compared to 10% in the Wellington region, and 18% nationally. This illustrates the importance of a bold strategy for urban development to encourage more growth.

When it comes to the subdivision there were a number of points raised during consultation that must be considered. A lack of infrastructure in the Upper Fitzherbert area is of real concern and council has not provided costing’s that would address this. The affect a plan change would have on the rural community, and the utilisation of other areas should be explored. For example, the tenths trust need to outline the future use

What do you love about Wainuiomata?I love that we are away from the bigger centres

like Lower Hutt and Wellington but still close enough to take advantage of the offerings available there if we desire. I love that we are surrounded by nature, and of course that the people of this community are so passionate and dedicated to making it a great place to live not only for themselves but for future generations.

Do you support a subdivision at the end of Upper Fitzherbert Road? And the proposed road to Naenae? Why or why not?

I support sustainable development. I would rather put our efforts into seeing current subdivisions are fi lled fi rst, and helping those

What do you love about Wainuiomata?I love Wainuiomata’s community spirit that

is noticed and reported in the media around the country when a crisis highlights the kind-ness of local people. I also love our green environment and the return of native bush and growing presence of native birds, including kereru, which were scarce a few years ago. Our surroundings offer many opportunities for recreation including bush walks, mountain biking, BMXing, coastal walks, horse riding and more.

Do you support a subdivision at the end of Upper Fitzherbert Road? And the proposed road to Naenae? Why or why not?

I support Council’s decision to review the proposed Urban Growth Strategy. This means considering alternatives for roading, and leaving the lifestyle blocks at the end of Upper Fitzherbert Road as they are. I was open-minded about the proposal from the start, being aware of the potential disruption to residents’ lives balanced against the growth potential for the community as a whole, and I awaited residents’ input with interest. The many quality submissions Council received convinced us of the potential for growth in

Each fortnight Wainuiomata News is asking our council candidates the tough questions leading up to elections.

developers where we can. I can think of three current subdivisions that still have room for new homes to be built. Then there is the land along the Parkway extension that sits there empty, several old school sites that could perhaps be put to better use. As a community I think we are far better off ‘fi lling in the gaps’ as such, making use of existing roads and infrastructure where we can before going out and building on the outskirts. With an aging population more centralised development is more likely to be supported as well, look at the success of the Woodland Grove and Mews development on The Strand. Once these options are exhausted then by all means look at the outskirts, but it should be on land that is not usable for

other purposes such as farming, which can provide vital resources in the future. We should take the lead on sustainable housing and make sure future development is done in a way that is going to have the minimum of impact on our environment.

The idea of a second road in and out has been around for a long time, and has merit in that we will not have to rely on one route in an emergency and may give better access to our community for others. I would like to see some serious work on this, including costings, impact and value to the community before proceeding. We will also need to look into how this is going to be paid for in the long run, and what the true benefi ts will be to us as a community.

of the old Wainuiomata College and Intermediate sites. These points illustrate the importance of collaboration between the community and council before any plans are approved. In principle I sup-port the second access road, as it would provide an alternate route if needed and better link Wainuiomata with the rest of the Hutt Valley.

other areas. I am pleased to see that the implementation of the Urban Growth Strategy will involve a view to physical, environmental, cultural and economic wellbeing, with good prospects of sustain-able growth. I appreciate residents’ input into this important work for our future prosperity and wellbeing.

What do you love about Wainuiomata?

The people arefantastic. Since I’ve had my health my health problems, the people were there for me.

Do you support a sub-division at the end of Up-per Fitzherbert Road? And the proposed road to Naenae?

Why or why not?I think it’s a waste of

time. The money they are

going to spend to do that, there are other better things to spend money on.

There’s things we re-ally require to spend that money on.

What do you love about Wai-nuiomata?

I have lived and breathed Wai-nuiomata for over 50yrs and have seen the community face many challenges. Above all I love the fact that the community spirit here is second to none and when anyone is in need of help the people in the Nui they are right there to offer support and love without question whether they know them or not.

Wainuiomata is a community of people who are givers of not only of time and money but more-so of their gifts, talents and willingness to serve.

Do you support a subdivision at the end of Upper Fitzherbert Road? And the proposed road to Naenae? Why or why not?

Developing more homes and a second access road out and into

Wainuiomata is certaintly needed. Their have been niche develop-

ments in housing and a small number of infi ll housing.

With the recent proposal to have 2000 homes in Upper Fitzherbert Rd and an access road over to Naenae has brought some controversy.

I believe we need to consider the impact of large scale development such as drainage, sewerage future fl ooding into black creek from our current urban areas down to Coast Rd and how rural residents may be afffected if such developments were to proceed and any future proposal should be brought to the community for consultation in the fi rst instance particularly in areas where those residents would be adversely af-fected.

We do need a second access road from Wainuiomata as we have learnt

from the floods in 2004 however I would propose to investigate options such as a tunnel from Wainuiomata Hill through to Seaview Rd Gracefi eld Rd intersection, Burden Ave exten-sion Rd through hill to Seaview Rd as alternative options and then put to the Wainuiomata Community for consultation from Council to the Local Community Board.

By Shannon SweetmanWaniuomata High School’s girls’

hockey team enjoyed great success last week at the first secondary school’s hockey tournament they have entered for years.

The girls’ highlight from the event, however, was meeting Rose-mary O’Brien herself, the former New Zealand Women’s hockey team player whom the tournament was named after.

“It turned out that Rosemary [previously] lived in Wainuiomata, raising her family and working at Wainuiomata College and Parkway College.

“Rosemary spotted those familiar colours of green and black and cheered us on at many games.”

The team finished their pool round in 3rd place, and placed 12th overall within the tournament.

Team coach Keri Coleman said that they were extremely proud of their success.

“For our fi rst time at tournament this was an impressive outcome.

“We have come back from tour-nament hockey more determined to work hard on the turf.”

She said one of their biggest achievements in the tournament was their battle against Auckland’s Baradene College team, who went on to win their pool event.

“As Baradene moved through pool play they thrashed every team.

“We were the only team to hold them to such a low score (4-0). [It was] a massive defensive effort.”

Team captain Navada Blake was also selected to umpire the fi nal match of the tournament, a “great credit to her talent and skills,” Mrs Coleman said.

The team has had an extremely successful season, moving up from the Reserve 3 pool to the Reserve 2 pool, which they are set to win if they can pull a victory in their fi nal game for this month.

Hockey girls onto a winning streak

By Rhiannon McConnellAfter a successful pilot season last year,

Netball Twilight League is back and Coordinator Peter Cowan is calling for teams to enter.

“For me it was engaging with the com-munity.”

Last year was the fi rst year Twilight League was run.

“We did something really worth while that people appreciated,” Peter says.

Sixteen teams were involved but Peter says they are hoping for even more this year.

“I just really want it to be successful for the community.”

Peter came up with the idea after wanting to provide community sports at Wainuiomata High School.

“Why not utilize what we have got here after three o’clock.”

He says it also fi lls the gap left after the

Indoor Netball Centre closed last year. “A lot of people were devastated that

shut down.” Peter says he has plans to extend to other

community sports in the future. “If it [the netball] grows, there are op-

portunities for other things to happen at the school for the community.

“I think Wainui people just need some-where to hangout too.”

The games are social but run profes-sionally.

Peter says they are working to get people back involved for this year.

“The fi rst year is always exciting and everyone jumps in.”

The start date is September 24 and the season runs for eight weeks.

The fee per team is $320 or a $300 early bird fee is registered by September 20.

The money goes to the school and pay-ing umpires.
