These FREE walks are suitable for all ages. They require participants to be able to walk for two hours and negotiate uneven bush tracks. There are usually no toilet facilities on the walks. Night Walk Scaly Bark Creek Kenthurst Friday 23 February | 8pm—10pm Experience the sights and sounds of the bush after dark. This walk is along a creek valley where the swamp mahoganies provide ideal habitat for yellow bellied gliders. Sugar gliders and wallabies can be heard and sometimes seen. Note: this walk includes a steep ascent and descent. Breakfast with the Birds Fred Caterson Reserve, Castle Hill The old scribbly gums and dense under storey plants in Fred Caterson Reserve provide homes for many birds which are seen in our local gardens. Such a variety of habitats in a small area ensures that we will see many bird species on this early morning walk. Enjoy a hearty country breakfast after the walk. Darling Mills Creek Waterfall Walk Richard Webb and Bidjigal Reserves, West Pennant Hills Saturday 17 March | 10.00am—Midday Explore one of the most important tributaries of the Parramatta River. This rugged and beautiful walk will take you through a Blue Gum High Forest, a sandstone gully and ridge. Note: this walk includes a steep ascent and descent. Night Walk Small’s Creek Kellyville Friday 23 March | 7.30pm—9.30pm Experience the sights and sounds of the bush after dark along one of Kellyville’s bushland corridors. Gliders and possums live in this valley and we may be lucky enough to see some on this walk. This walk is on paved paths with an easy gradient. Explore Toongabbie Creek Baulkham Hills Thursday 19 April | 9.30am—11.30am School Holiday Walk Walk a bushland corridor from William Joyce Reserve to Sierra Place. Learn how to identify the different trees growing there, listen for bellbirds and find fungi. Suitable for children 8 – 13 years and their carers. Night Walk Darling Mills Creek North Rocks Friday 27 April | 6.30pm—8.30pm Experience the sights and sounds of the bush after dark. An active fox baiting program has seen an increase in the numbers and variety of native animals in the Darling Mills Creek Valley. We may be lucky enough to see some of them on this night time walk. Banksia Walk Fred Caterson Reserve, Castle HillSunday 6 May | 10.00am—MiddayIn April 1770 HM Bark Endeavour under the command of Lt James Cook spent 10 days exploring the shores of Stingray Bay. The naturalists on board led by Sir Joseph Banks were so enchanted with the variety of new plants there that Cook changed the name of the bay to Botany Bay. Some of the Banksia species which were discovered there can also be found in Castle Hill. Learn why banksias are so special in the history of botany and see other special plants on this walk.

West Porters Road Fire TrailKenthurst Sunday 20 May | 1.30pm—3.30pmThis walk follows the fire trail at the end of Porters Road along a sandstone ridge. Natural vegetation on these ridges is now fairly rare due to clearing for farms and later suburban development. Learn about the plants which grow on Sydney sandstone ridgetops. A rest stop will be enjoyed at a lookout with views down into O’Hara’s Creek.

Hillside WalkBidjigal ReserveSaturday 9 June | 1.30pm—3.30pm This walk is in the Eastern end of Bidjigal Reserve. The route includes the valley of Blue Gum Creek with its remnant Blue Gum High Forest and the hillside above it which has typical Sydney Sandstone Open Gully Forest. A rest stop will be had at the waterfall on Darling Mills creek. Some of this walk is on unformed rough bush tracks.

O’Hara’s CreekKenthurst Saturday 17 June | 1.30pm—3.30pmEnjoy district views from a sandstone ridge with glimpses of early wildflowers, before walking down into the wet sclerophyll forest. Trees were once logged by timbergetters in the valley which is now a rare vegetation community. Note: this walk includes a steep ascent and descent.
