UKWallace and Gromit Curse of the Were-Rabbit

(2005)Directed by Steve Box and Nick Park

Nick Park is best known for bringing Wallace and Gromit into our lives along with Shaun the Sheep; he directs, produces and writes the shorts – obviously not all at once. Steve Box has also contributed to Park’s films, including Chicken Run (2000) and The Wrong Trousers (1993).

Curse of the Were-Rabbit is another one of Wallace and Gromit’s attempt at inventing to do right but yet goes wrong. There both apart of the pesticides, who catch rabbits eating the villager’s prize-winning vegetables for the annual vegetable competition. Wallace tries to do good by brainwashing the rabbits into think ‘vegetables are bad’ but later realize that it did the reverse – Made Wallace like vegetables a bit too much that he turns into a massive Were-Rabbit. Leaving Gromit to save the day.

The use of clay stop-motion makes the Wallace and Gromit films/shorts feel earthy and loved. Cure of the Were-Rabbit has that horror, comedy which the others don’t taking inspiration from Hammer Horror productions, similar to Hot Fuzz – a village with a dark secret, waiting for a hero to find out. It’s very clever with the jokes, making it enjoyable for the whole family.
