Next Meeting:Our next meeting will be at 7:45 PM on September 5 th at Harbel. The meeting will be an open

forum to discuss your issues and concerns.

    Presidents Letter

    Hello,

Our meeting will be an open forum again this week but we have a lot to discuss. In August, wetested a Waltherson Meet- up at Zekes coffee on a Sunday that turned out to be a great smallgathering of neighbors. The event was well received so we are going to start planning themregularly as an informal way to meet neighbors and build community. I hope to see you at ournext meet-up at Zekes Coffee on Sunday, September 2 nd between noon and 2 PM.

Live Baltimore held a pop-up in the area last month showcasing the neighborhoods of HamiltonHills, Lauraville, Arcadia, Mayfield and Waltherson. Rob Walshe and Helene Quinn attendedand made a presentation for the neighborhood and talked with prospective homebuyers. We willalso have a table at Live Baltimores buying into Baltimore event on September 8 th.

Finally, a couple of things to note: We have been asked by our neighbors in Westfield & Glenham-Belhar to support them in

their opposition to the Royal Farms planned at Harford Rd & Glenmore Ave and haveagreed to do so.

We are having a clean-up of the Biddison Family Cemetery on October 6 th at 9 AM.

Hope to see you all at the next meeting.

    ThanksRonnie Lesperance

    Addressing Neglected Properties in Waltherson

We have contacted Councilman Currans office regarding a number of neglected properties in theneighborhood and would like to share their updates. Code Enforcement has looked into the status of these and is working to issue citations with associated fines, or have attorneys take action.

5215 Harford Road is currently going through the receivership process and will be auctioned tonew owners imminently. Their court date is 9/25/12.

4817 Arabia is currently going through the receivership process and will be auctioned to newowners imminently. Their court date is 9/11/12. 3502 Echodale: The owner was most recently issued a $900 citation on August 24 th for not

abating the vacant building notice. The citation requires the owner to pay the fine and abate theviolation or face legal action from the City.

3100 Rueckert: Were working on confirming ownership so that we can take action; in a recentconversation with our inspector, the owners wife informe d us that the bank had sold theproperty. We need to determine what occurred so we can follow up with the appropriateresponsible party.

3706 Southern: A vacant building notice was issued earlier this year; well follow up to beginissuing citations right away.

3814 Southern Ave. is going through the receivership process as well. We just received theresults of our title search, so unless hurdles are encountered, a case will be filed in 2-3 weeks, and a court date will be set for 8-10 weeks from now.

3900 Southern Ave. appears to be owned by the same entity, but were currently working toclarify ownership and status and pursue legal action if warranted.

Join the fight for a Healthy Harbor!

Everybody knows that Baltimore Harbor is polluted, but did youknow that theres a movement underway to make it safe forswimming and fishing by the year 2020? The Healthy Harbormovement was started by the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, and is supported by Baltimore City as well as areabusinesses and nonprofit organizations.

To see an example of what the Healthy Harbor movement hasaccomplished so far, you need only take a stroll down to the InnerHarbor to see the two thousand square feet of floating wetlandsthat have been installed next to the World Trade Center. Theseislands float on plastic bottles that were recovered from theHarbor and use natural processes to remove pollutants from thewater while providing native habitat for birds, fish, crabs, andother marine life.

Waterfront Partnership, in collaboration with Blue Water Baltimore, is also working with neighborhoodsupstream of the Harbor to help them become Clean Water Communities. Neighborhoods are spreadingthe word and making a difference by cleaning up vacant lots, installing rain barrels, and painting stormdrains. Storm drain art engages neighborhood youth and helps neighborhoods keep their streets cleanby reminding people that anything going down a storm drain ends up in the Harbor and the ChesapeakeBay. Neighborhood storm drain murals often depict fish and crabs and include catch phrases like trashin the street pollutes what we eat, others remind residents of long buried urban streams that still flow

beneath City stree ts with phrases like Harris Creek is under our feet.

To learn more about how to get yourself, your community or your business involved in the HealthyHarbor movement visit HealthyHarborBaltimore.org , follow Healthy Harbor on Facebook or contactAdam Lindquist at [email protected] .
