Students in the class of 1966 who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance will be graduated as members of one of the following categories: those enrolled in the University Honors Program; those who entered the university prior to the initiation of ~he Honors Program and who have qualified under the university's previous honors system; and those who have done outstanding work in their major academic fields but who have not participated in the Honors Program. Graduates who have participated in the Honors Program and who have satisfied the requirements of the Program are admitted to the degree with Highest Honors, High Honors, or Honors. Such graduates have completed special Honors courses, examinations, and independent study and have maintained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00. The level of graduation honors is determined by the student's over-all performance in his major academic field and in the Honors Program. Students who entered the university prior to the initiation of the Honors Program may be graduated with Honors or Highest Honors. Such graduation is determined primarily by grade-point average. The names of students in this category are identified by a dagger (t). Students entering the university after the initiation of the Honors Program who did not enroll in the program but who have done outstanding work are, upon recommendation of their departments, graduated with Distinction.
