TheeffluentatthefacilityinBarranquillaconsistsofhouseholdandindustrialdischarge,whichwasnotedtobesporadicinflowandstrength.Theeffluentflowsfromsourcelocationstominoraqueducts,intoaseriesoflagoonsandthendischargedtotheMagdalenaRiver.

TheCityofBarranquillaapproachedBiOWiSHTechnologiesforasolutiontoanongoingissue:theireffluentdidnotmeetdischargerequirementsandwasbecomingaseriousenvironmentalissueforlocalmunicipalities.

ResultsTotalsolidsloadingwasreducedalmostimmediatelywithareductionof50%BODandTSS.Reductioninhydraulicloadingimprovedthethrough-putcapacityandminimized“bottlenecking,”whichcanresultinsystemupsetsrequiringadditionalman-powerandmaintenance.SuchupsetsalsocauseodorissuesfromVOCs,whichareknowntoleadtohealth-relatedissuesifexperiencedforsustainedperiods.Theseodorswerealsoeliminated.
