COMMUNITY RESPONSE The active volunteer participation of the residents helped reducing the cost oflabour, mason etc. which pave the way to facilitate more villages to connect withwater channel constructed by KDF. Now we feel a great sense of achievement andsatisfaction after being provided the clean drinking facility to around 4000 people inKalas Seri and adjacent villages.

We will take you to the pictorial journey of this project; you will nd yourself at everystep. It can be observed in the pictures that there is no proper road to the area; moreover there is a limit to travel even by jeeps. Afterwards one has to go by foot. It tookus more than 40 minutes to reach village Kalas Seri.

LOCALE PROFILE:Noora Seri is the biggest Union Council of Azad Jammu & Kashmir; this area was badlyaffected by the earthquake in 2005. Since then we are working here with the suppor t of DMAID. We have supported the area through Shelter Homes Programs, Medical Camps andOrphan Support Program. There are 14 villages in this union council and we have almostfacilitated every village under our programs.

AVAILABILITY OF DRINKING WATERIn this area there was no water supply line of the local administration, due to its situation onthe mountains it is very difficult to have that. Wells are not successful in this area, onlysource was the spring’s water which was far away from the residential area. I t was a demandof community for long time that a solution may be provided for clean drinking water.

OUR INTERVENTION: This matter was taken up with KDF though a col lective meeting of residents; KDF reviewedthe problem and real situation at site and then forwarded the demand to DM AID officials.DM AID was kind enough as always; they approve the project and allow us to start workingon it. KDF then got the services of an Engineer to have a technical feasibility of the project.Idea was to channelize spring water and make it available to the community. It took fewmonths to complete but we have been successful. Our technical workers mark the mainsource of spring water in the mountains which was almost 2 KM away from the community,initially make one water tank there for the collection of water and then construct a big watertank in the community. Both water tanks are connected with pipes. So water which wasinitially gathered at main source was transferred to the main water tank in the community.From that water tank KDF extends water connections to the residents. Approx 200 familieshave got the benet of clean drinking water; it may be used for other purposes to keep themhealthy.

FORMAL INAUGURATION:Mr. Nadeem Nawaz Chairman of Board DM AID visited and inaugurated this water supplyscheme during his last visit to Pakistan in March 2013. KDF’s Chairman Mr. Abid Gillani andother officials were also present at that time. Few representatives from media also coveredthis event. People of this village are so happy & thankful to Danish Muslim Aid and KDF forthis contribution to this poor Community.

This is the difference between other organizations and DMAID/KDF that we have just notsupported the community in disasters, we have been committed with the community andeven after 8 years we are still with them to gradually make their lives better, ourcontribution has been acknowledged by the people there and observers like media andlocal politician have also sense the seriousness of our work for the community development.In our opinion this is great success at our end. We are not expecting and thing from thecommunity but from Allah (SWT).
