Milwaukee, Wis. – The Better Business Bureau Serving Wisconsin(BBB) is alerting consumers of a phone scam in which the caller claimsto be from Microsoft or other companies “Tech Support” departments. The caller informs you that you have a computer virus and offers to fixit, all in an effort to gain remote control access to your computer.
Those who allowed the caller remote access to their computerreported difficulties with their computer afterwards. Some said theircomputers suddenly had viruses, or particular software programs wereno longer accessible.
Reports to the BBB of this scam have been frequent for the last sev-eral weeks, indicating this old scam has resurfaced again. Most con-sumers reported taking their computers for repair following the phonecall.
Computer firms such as Microsoft do not make unsolicited phonecalls to consumers to report computer problems or viruses, nor do theyoffer to diagnose and fix problems via telephone.
“We are concerned with the increase in reports from consumersthat they lost money to these unknown scammers”, says Ran Hoth,CEO/president of the Better Business Bureau Serving Wisconsin. “Ifyou receive such a call, the best advice is to say no and hang up.”
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), they’ve been
cracking down on these scams and they continue to investigate andprosecute them.If you paid for a bogus tech support ser vice with a credit card, call
your bank or credit card provider immediately to dispute the charge. What you should do if you receive a “Tech Support” call:* Don’t trust cold calls. Never provide your credit card or
financial information to anyone, over the phone that you don’t know.* Take the caller’s information and report it to local law
enforcement authorities and the FTC.* Install virus detection to help protect your computer from
viruses.* Find a computer repair company you can trust. Find a BBB
Accredited Business by business category at bbb.org.For more information or further inquiries, contact the Wisconsin
BBB at www.wisconsin.bbb.org or 414-847-6000 (metroMilwaukee), 920-734-4352 (Appleton), 608-268-2221 (Madison)
or 1-800-273-1002 (elsewhere in Wisconsin). Consumers also canfind more information about how to protect themselves from scams byfollowing the Wisconsin BBB on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
ABOUT BBB: For more than 100 years, Better Business Bureauhas been helping consumers find businesses, brands and charities theycan trust. The production features Rep AssociateArtists Jonathan Gillard Daly, Laura Gordon,Gerard Neugent and Deborah Staples, fre-quent guest actor Kelley Faulkner, Chicago-based actors Aaron Christensen and JoeDempsey and Rep Acting Interns Joe Boersmaand Sara Zientek.

your tree simple by choosing one or two colors for the tree'sdécor.
For kids, decorate with their favorite color. Make tissue-paper flowers to place on your tree. All you need is tissuepaper and pipe cleaners.
For a tree that will help you remember the good times, hangmementos that you've collected throughout the year insteadof traditional, often expensive ornaments. Choose knick-knacks from family vacations, party pictures, favors fromweddings or showers, or kids' arts and crafts projects. Hangholiday greeting cards from family and friends on your tree.To turn these trinkets into ornaments, glue or attach ornamenthangers to each item. Your tree will be a reminder of the funshared throughout the year.
For a more international feel, use inexpensive wrappingpaper to make origami cranes -- symbols of peace. Paperbirds of all sizes will look beautiful on your tree and can be afun project for the whole family.

Skylight Music Theatre is presenting anew production of the Tony Award-winningmusical “Les Misérables” now throughDec. 29 in the Cabot Theatre at theBroadway Theatre Center, 158 N.Broadway, Milwaukee.
“Les Misérables” is one of the mostpopular musicals every written. Based onthe classic novel, Les Misérables by Victor
Hugo, this musical is an epic and upliftingstory about the survival of the human spir-it. The musical's score includes the well-known songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "OnMy Own," "Do You Hear the PeopleSing?," and many more. Since itsBroadway debut in 1987, Les Misérableshas been seen by 65 million people world-wide, in 45 countries and in 22 lan-guages. It has won over 100 internationalawards including the coveted Best MusicalTony in 1987.
Skylight Music Theatre has taken on
the daunting task of re-imagining this mas-sive musical for the intimate Cabot Theatre.Under the direction of Molly Rhode,Scenic and Lighting Designer Peter DeanBeck has created a unit set for this produc-tion that transforms and surprises. Rhode'shighly theatrical staging will be an actor-
driven event that celebrates the power andcraft of the artists.
Artistic Director Viswa Subbaramanassisted Rhode in assembling one of themost talented casts to ever perform on theSkylight stage. Broadway and opera tal-ents such as Luke Grooms (Valjean),Andrew Varela (Javert), Kevin Massey(Marius) and Eric Mahlum (Thenardier)
will be under the direction of Robert Linderas the production's music director. Linderholds 3 Grammy nominations for conduct-ing and producing Jazz CD's in the last 4years, and one personal Grammy nomina-tion for Producer of the Year in 2010.
Centerpiece to the season, LesMisérables is the show that inspiredSkylight to focus on freedom and revolu-tion as a conversation through the entireyear. Set in 19th century France, in themidst of revolution, it follows Jean Valjeanon his quest for redemption after being
jailed for stealing a loaf of bread, inspec-tor Javert who relentlessly pursues paroleviolator Valjean, and an abundance ofother compelling and entertaining charac-ters.

Historic Milwaukee, Inc. has recently pub-lished a preservation contractor directory. Thenon-profit educational and advocacy group cre-ated the directory as a resource for owners of his-toric homes and commercial buildings in theMilwaukee area.
Though many people are attracted to olderbuildings, not all realize the work required for
their upkeep and maintenance. This is whereHistoric Milwaukee's contractor directory can beuseful.
Much of the work required for a qualityrestoration can be fairly specialized. As such, some contractors may not know the proper tech-niques for working with historic materials orstyles. By providing names of contractors and
craftspeople that have experience working onpreservation projects, the directory will be a start-ing point for owners of historic buildings.
"This directory is a very exciting resource forMilwaukeeans who are looking to preserve andrestore their historic homes or buildings," saidPaul Jakubovich, who works for the city's HistoricPreservation Office.
The directory is made up of 103 contractorsdivided into 33 different categories based uponthe services they provide. Those 33 categoriescover a wide range of services including every-thing from roofing to custom woodworking to
canvas ceiling repair. Most of the contractors list-ed are locally-based within the Milwaukee area. Some of the more highly-specialized contractors, though, do come from other parts of theWisconsin or neighboring states.
Historic Milwaukee will be regularly updat-ing the contractor directory and welcomes anysuggestions to help expand and improve thisMilwaukee preservation resource.
To view the contractor directory, visit his-toricmilwaukee.org/preservation/contractor-directory. Historic Milwaukee, Inc. is located at207 E. Michigan St., Suite 500, Milwaukee.

Add a little holiday sparkle to your land-scape for you and your guests to enjoy. Nomatter the weather outside, a few decorativetouches can greatly increase the beauty andenjoyment of your winter landscape.
Try one, two or all eight of these tips toimprove your landscape’s winter appeal.
Add some solar powered accents. Light apathway, your favorite tree or front porch with-out installing additional outlets. Look forunique colors and shapes like the solar starlantern or the changing colors of northernlights spheres (gardeners.com) for addedappeal. The wide variety now available canhelp create a memorable winter display. Besure to select solar accents that provide hoursof enjoyment when fully charged.
Create an outdoor holiday tree for youand your feathered visitors to enjoy. Decoratea few of your evergreen trees and shrubs withpurchased or homemade birdseed ornaments.Holiday shapes made of energy rich birdseedand suet give the trees a holiday flare, whileproviding important food for birds to enjoy. These also make great gifts for your favoritegardener or bird watcher.
Light up your winter containers. Fill aweather-proof planter with potting mix or playsand. Purchase greens from your favorite gar-den center or trim a few from your landscape.Stick the cut end of the greens in the pottingmix or sand to create an attractive display.Add some colorful berries, decorative twigsand ribbon. Then add some height and light toyour winter container with fiber optic solarlights. Place the container by your front stepsfor holiday visitors to enjoy day or night.
Increase color and motion with the help ofheated birdbaths. Attract greater numbers and
variety of birds by providing water year round.Northern gardeners should consider heatedbirdbaths to insure water is available even dur-ing the coldest months. Further help the birdsby adding a few stones or branches to thebirdbath. This allows the birds to drink withoutgetting wet; helping them to preserve theirbody heat.
Create your own homemade outdoor
lights. Line pathways, accent plantings ordress up fence posts with ice globe luminaries.Produce your own or purchase ready to makekits. Use colorful outdoor LED lights or tea can-dles to light up blocks or spheres of ice. Youand your family will have fun creating thesememorable nighttime accents.
Add some livable art. Hang a few colorfuland unique birdhouses in your backyard. Theyprovide color and whimsy to the winter gar-den and will be ready for your featheredfriends to move in this spring.
Include a “gingerbread” house for the
birds. Hang decorative birdseed houses froma shepherds crook or tree branch. Be sure toplace it in an area where you and the birdscan enjoy the decorative treat. Look for a shel-tered, but open area where the birds canwatch for predators while enjoying their winterfeast.
Move your holiday tree outdoors. Placeyour cut tree in a snow bank, vacant spot inthe garden or make it part of your bird feed-ing station. The tree provides some extragreenery in the often drab winter landscapeas well as shelter for the visiting birds. Then
add a few of those birdseed ornaments foradded food and winter decoration.Gardening expert, TV/radio host, author &
columnist Melinda Myers hosts The Great Courses “How to Grow Anything” DVD seriesand the nationally syndicated Melinda’sGarden Moment segments. Myers is also acolumnist and contributing editor for Birds &Blooms magazine. Myers’ web site,www.melindamyers.com, offers gardeningvideos and tips.

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter
Today's column is about oral cancer. One of our wonderfulpatients was diagnosed with tonsillar cancer and is undergoing
surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and we send our prayersfor a speedy and full recovery! It is important to remind ourreadership about one of the many important reasons to seetheir dentist regularly.
According to the Oral Cancer Foundation there will be42,000 Americans that receive a diagnosis of oral orpharyngeal cancer this year and this will result in 8000 deaths.
Oral cancer is a group of cancers that involve the head andneck and are found to be squamous cell carcinoma in 90% of cases. Squamous cell carcinomas have a much greater chanceof spreading (or metastasizing) in comparison to basal cellcarcinomas. The lesion is often asymptomatic which makesoral cancer screenings imperative. It most commonly appearsas a reddish skin plaque or ulcer that grows slowly. A cancercell is one that doesn't turn off and keeps multiplying as aresult of a genetic mutation to genes. These cells cannot repairthemselves.
Where can oral cancerappear in my mouth?
Oral or mouth cancer most commonly involves the tongue. It may also occur on the floor of the mouth, cheek lining, gums , the roof of one's mouth, or the lips. They may arisefrom many types of tissue in the mouth including salivaryglands and lymph tissue.
What should I look for?Keep your eye out for a skin lesion, lump, or ulcer that does
not go away for around 2 weeks. This may be a small lesionon the tongue, lip, or other mouth areas. It is usually palecolored, but potentially could be dark or discolored. An earlywarning sign may be a white patch called a "leukoplakia" or ared patch known as an "erythroplakia" on the soft tissues of the mouth. These lesions are usually painless initially, however, it may develop a burning sensation or pain when thetumor is advanced. Other symptoms to look for are tongueproblems, hard time swallowing, and mouth sores. Pain maybe a late symptom but most often oral cancers are painless.
How can a dentist tell if a lesion is cancerous or not?
A dentist can identify a potentially cancerous lesion. However, a biopsy is the only way to know for sure. Benignand malignant lesions can look identical to the eye. A non-invasive brush biopsy can be performed to rule out thepresence of cancerous cells. The only definitive method fordetermining if cancerous or precancerous cells are present isthrough biopsy. The cells will then undergo microscopicevaluation to determine if they are indeed cancerous.
What will happen if a lesion in my mouth is determinedto be cancerous?
Often times, all that is necessary is for a small sugical
incision to be made to remove the lesion from the area in
question. Radiation with or without chemotherapy can alsobe used in conjunction depending on the severity, stage, andsize of the lesion.
What puts you at a higher risk for developing cancer?People that are over 50 that drink heavily and smoke are
at higher risk for oral cancer. Other risk factors are peoplethat have been diagnosed with HPV or Human PapillomaVirus; which is a sexually transmitted disease which MichaelDouglas recently associated with his throat cancer.
Patients with poor diets or having had a higher exposureto radiation may also be at higher risk.
We hope you will go to your dentist or come to us for yourcomplimentary oral cancer screening. This is a disease thatcan be caught early and treated with a high level of success. We look forward to meeting you. At Hampton Dental weperform an oral cancer screening every time we meet a newpatient and at each re-care visit!
