PURPOSE:

This document is to provide the Waynesville Tiger Battalion policy and procedural guidance for the standardization and execution of the wear and appearance of JROTC uniforms and insignia and clearly define the requirements and standards for distribution of awards, ribbons, cords, arcs and associated decorations and insignia. This SOP is intended clarify and supplement existing Cadet Command Regulations and applicable publications.

1-1. Cadet Enlisted Rank

a. Cadet enlisted rank ranges from Cadet Private (C/PVT) to Cadet Command Sergeant Major (C/CSM). LET I cadets that are new to the program will start as C/PVT, but can be promoted at the discretion of their instructors. As a LET I, the maximum rank that can attain is generally Cadet Corporal (C/CPL). The maximum rank a LET II can attain is generally Cadet Sergeant First Class (C/SFC). As a LET III, the maximum rank that can attain is C/CSM. Instructors can promote at their discretion.

b. Cloth Shoulder Boards will be worn on the ASU gray shirt, and gold metal rank will be worn on the ASU blue coat, windbreaker, and overcoat. Metal non-subdued (shiny gold) rank will be worn on the epaulets of the ASU blue coat, black windbreaker and overcoat, 5/8 of an inch up from the shoulder seam and centered on the epaulet.

c. Enlisted rank Cadets will wear the JROTC hat badge on their gray beret.

1-2. Cadet Officer Rank

a. Generally, only LET IVs will be promoted to Cadet Officers, when recommended by their instructor, and provided they appear before the chain of command selection board at end of their LET III year. Rising LET IVs who chose not to attend the chain of command promotion board, will generally retain the highest rank they achieved by the completion of their LET III year. Primary Staff Officers and Company Commanders will hold the rank of Cadet Captain (C/CPT) with the exception of the Battalion S-3, who will hold the rank of Cadet Major (C/MAJ). Primary Assistants will be Cadet First Lieutenants (C/1LTs), with the exception of the S-3 Assistants, who can be C/CPTs. The Battalion Executive Officer will hold the rank of C/MAJ, and the Battalion Commander will hold the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (C/LTC).

b. Cloth Shoulder Boards will be worn on the ASU gray shirt, and non-subdued metal (shiny silver) rank will be worn on the ASU blue coat, windbreaker, and overcoat. Metal rank will be worn on the epaulets of the blue coat, windbreaker and overcoat, 5/8 of an inch up from the shoulder seam and centered on the epaulet.

c. Cadet Officers will wear their metal rank on their gray beret. Rank will be positioned horizontally, not vertically or diagonally.

1-3: Promotions and Promotion Boards:

a. General Information:

(1) Promotions are not automatic, but will be based on merit and participation in JROTC.

(2) Cadets can be promoted (and demoted) anytime by Cadre, but generally for LET II/IIIs promotions will be done based on an instructor recommendation, and successfully appearing before a cadet promotion board. The procedures for promotion boards is as follows.

(3) Generally, there will be four promotion boards per year; two per semester.

(4) LET I Cadets will be promoted by their instructor based on merit by their instructor; they will not appear before the board.

b. LET II and LET III Cadets can appear before a promotion board if they meet the following requirements:

(1) Must be recommended by their instructor.

(2) Must be passing all classes.

(3) Must have at least a B in JROTC.

(4) Must be in Class A uniform when appearing before the board.

c. All promotions and demotions will be at the Cadet’s instructor’s discretion.

d. Generally, the highest rank that can be achieved at each LET level is as follows:

(1) LET I – Corporal

(2) LET II – Sergeant First Class

(3) LET III – Command Sergeant Major

(a) First Sergeant is awarded to cadets who demonstrate strong leadership skills.

(b) Master Sergeant is awarded to members of the staff at LET level III.

(c) LET III’s are limited to the rank of Sergeant First Class, aside d.(3)(a &b)

*Note: Cadets who do not maintain a B average in JROTC will not retain their current NCO or Officer rank.

e. LET IV – Rank is awarded based on merit, effort, desire, and the respective staff position.

f. Officer Promotion Procedures: Cadet Officer Promotions are based on merit; GPA, class rank, participation in JROTC, and the Cadet’s position in the senior class (LET IV) staff. During their junior year all Cadets (LET IIIs) who desire to have a Command or Staff position their senior year, will first submit an essay to the SAI stating what position(s) they desire and why.

(1) If selected, based on their essay, they must appear before a separate chain of command selection board, who will make a recommendation to the SAI on the chain of the command for the next school year. Juniors (LET IIIs) who decide not to compete for a LET IV position will remain whatever rank they attained through their LET III year.

(2) The Battalion Commander and Battalion Staff for the upcoming year will be announced at the annual Battalion Awards ceremony.

g. Enlisted Cadet Board Procedures - Cadets going before the promotion board will:

(1) Report to the president of the board, on time and in the proper uniform IAW CCR 145-2.

(2) Knock 3 times on the door.

(3) Wait for the President of the Board to give them permission to enter.

(4) Enter the room via the most direct route, stop six steps before the president of the board.

(5) Report to the president of the board.

(6) While at Present Arms, the cadet will state the following:

(a) “Cadet (rank/name) (LET level) reports to the president of the board”

(b) The cadet will wait for the president of the board to return the salute and then either tell them to stand at parade rest or remain at attention.

(7) On command, be able to execute stationary drill movements.

(8) On command, recite the Cadet Creed.

(9) Answer questions all properly and correctly.

(10) When dismissed by the president of the board, report out, and leave via the most direct route.

(11) Cadets must achieve at least 15 points out of 25, at the board, to be considered for promotion. Simply appearing before the board does not grant a promotion.

Part II: Shoulder Cords

2-1: General Information

Shoulder cords are awarded to cadets who are actively part of an integrated curricular special team (Drill, Color Guard, Raiders) and to recognize their participation. Cords will only be worn while an active participant in their respective activities. A maximum of two cords can be worn, one per shoulder on the uniform. Combined/multi-color cords may also be approved by SAI.

2-2: Approved Shoulder Cords

There are specific cords awarded for specific activities, these are:

a. Red - Drill Team

b. White - Color Guard

c. Black – Raiders

d. Yellow/Gold - NHS Honor Cord

e. Red/White – Drill and Color Guard – Competition Color Guard, or when another cord is worn (e.g. Raider or NHS)

f. Orange/Black - Exhibition Team (Armed or Unarmed)

Part III: Ribbons & Medal Awards

3-1: Wear of medals and ribbons

a. Cadets are only authorized to wear medals earned through the JROTC program on the uniform, with the exception of 3-1c & d below. Cadets are authorized to wear up to five (5) medals on the uniform at one time. Medals will be worn in accordance with the order of precedence from the wearer’s right to left with national medals first, locally awarded medals, then participation medals this includes nationals participation. On the male jacket, medals will be worn 1/8 down from the top of the pocket flap, centered from left to right. When more than one row is worn, the top row will be three medals and the second row will contain two medals. There will be 1/8-inch space between rows, with the second row of medals worn staggered from the top row. On the female jacket, medals will be worn 1/8 down from the bottom of the nameplate, centered on the nameplate. When more than one row is worn, there will be 1/8-inch space between rows, with the second row of medals worn staggered from the top row.

b. Only one neck medal will be worn at a time.

c. Awards received from other programs and locations are authorized for wear.

d. Eagle Scouts are authorized to wear their Eagle Scout Medal.

3-2: National Awards and Medals

National Awards are special awards that are awarded to cadets for exceptional performance and are often earned in very few quantities. Many are also limited by LET level. Selection of these annual awards is done by the SAI and IAs. These awards will be presented at the annual JROTC awards ceremony.

a. National Awards:

1. Superior Cadet Decoration

a. The Superior Cadet Decoration (JROTC) is awarded by the SAI and Superintendent and

is limited to one outstanding Cadet in each LET level in each JROTC unit.

b. To be considered eligible for this award, an individual must be:

(1) A JROTC Cadet in good standing.

(2) In the top 10% of his/her JROTC class academically, and in the top 50% of his/ her class in overall academic standing.

(3) Recommended by the SAI.

c. Nominations for this award will be made by the SAI based by the cadre.

2. Sons of the American Revolution JROTC Award

a. General. The SAR gives to a meritorious Cadet enrolled in JROTC at each school. The award recognizes an outstanding LET III Cadet. This award consists of a bronze medal and pendant and ribbon bar.

b. Criteria. Recipient must :

(1) Exhibit a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing, all-around excellence in JROTC activities, and community service.

(2) Be currently enrolled in JROTC.

(3) Be in top 10% of their JROTC class.

(4) Be in top 25% of their overall class.

3. The Military Order of the World Wars JROTC Award

a. General. This award, which consists of a medal pendant, ribbon bar, and certificate, is authorized for award annually to high school Cadets. The award in each case will be given for overall improvement in military and scholastic studies during the school year.

b. Criteria. Cadet must:

(1) Be in good standing in all military aspects and scholastic grades at the time of selection and presentation of the award.

(2) Have shown marked improvement in both military and scholastic grades at the time of selection and presentation of the award.

(3) Have indicated by military and scholastic grades, integrated-curricular activities, or individual endeavor a desire to serve his or her country.

(4) Not have previously received this award.

(5) Participate in the program the following semester.

c. Selection. Selection will be made by the DAI/SAI with concurrence of the ranking school official. Award may be presented to a deserving Cadet in each class or to a single Cadet at a school. Approval must be obtained from the MOWW before awarding more than one medal at the school.

4. Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) JROTC Award

a. General. This award, which consists of a bronze medal and ribbon bar, is presented

annually by the DAR to a Cadet at each school for outstanding ability and achievement.

b. Criteria. The Cadet must:

(1) Be a member of the graduating class.

(2) Be in the top 25% of the Cadets in JROTC and academic subjects.

(3) Have demonstrated qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability, and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC.

c. Selection. Selection will be made by the DAI/SAI and the head of the school.

5. American Legion JROTC Awards for Military Excellence and Scholastic Excellence

a. General. These awards are given annually to outstanding Cadets at each school for general military and scholastic excellence. Not more than one student at a school may be nominated per year for these awards. During the junior year, a Cadet in a class HS JROTC unit will receive the bronze medal; a Cadet at class MI JROTC unit will receive the silver medal. A miniature reproduction of the official JROTC crest is attached to the medal awarded for scholastic excellence. Recipients of either award will also receive a ribbon bar to which the crest or scroll is attached.

b. Criteria. A Cadet may receive an award for general military excellence and an award for scholastic excellence for the same school year or for more than one year.

(1) General Military Excellence Award. The Cadet must: (a) Be in the top 25% of his/ her class in JROTC and non-JROTC subjects.

(b) Have demonstrated outstanding qualities in military leadership, discipline, character, and citizenship.

(2) Scholastic Excellence Award. The Cadet must:

(a) Be in the top 10% of his/her class in non-JROTC subjects.

(b) Be in the top 25% of his/her class in JROTC.

(c) Have demonstrated qualities if leadership.

(d) Have actively participated in related student activities such as student organizations, constructive activities, or sports.

c. Selection. Selection will be made by the DAI/SAI and the head of the school.

6. The National Sojourners JROTC Award

a. General. This award, which consists of a ribbon with medal pendant, is made annually to an outstanding Cadet at each school who contributed the most to encourage and demonstrate Americanism within the Corps of Cadets and on the campus.

b. Criteria. The Cadet must:

(1) Be in the second or third year of JROTC.

(2) Be in the top 25% of his or her academic class.

(3) Have encouraged and demonstrated the ideals of Americanism by deed and/or conduct.

(4) Have demonstrated a potential for outstanding leadership.

(5) Not have previously received the award.

c. Selection. The DAI/SAI or head of the school or both may make the selection. Final approval rests with the sponsoring chapter of National Sojourners.

6. Scottish Rite of Freemasonry JROTC Award

a. General. This award, which consists of a bronze metal pendent, a ribbon, and a certificate

may be awarded annually to one outstanding Cadet who demonstrates scholastic excellence and Americanism.

b. Criteria. The Cadet must:

(1) Have contributed the most among Cadets on campus to encourage and demonstrate Americanism, by deeds or conduct during participation in integrated-curricular activities or community projects.

(2) Have demonstrated academic excellence by being in the top 25% of his or her academic class.

(3) Have demonstrated a potential for outstanding leadership by exhibiting qualities of dependability, good citizenship, and patriotism.

(4) Be in the third year of a four-year JROTC program.

(5) Not have previously received this award.

c. Selection. Selection will be made by the DAI/SAI or other senior service official or the head of the school (or both).

7. U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) Award for JROTC

a. General. This award is presented annually by USAREC to a Cadet at each school in recognition of outstanding achievement and contributions to JROTC. The award consists of a bronze medal and ribbon bar.

b. Criteria. The Cadet must:

(1) Be in the third year of a four-year option.

(2) Be in the top 25% of his or her academic class.

(3) Have demonstrated outstanding leadership traits and possess the potential for assuming positions of increased responsibility.

(4) Participate in integrated-curricular activities that foster both scholastic and military excellence.

(5) Demonstrate qualities of dependability and good character, respect military discipline and standards, and possess a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC training.

(6) Not have previously received the award.

c. Selection. School officials will make the selection with the assistance of the DAI/SAI.

8. Noncommissioned Officers Association (NCOA) Award for JROTC

a. General. This award is presented annually by NCOA to each unit’s most outstanding

Cadet Noncommissioned Officer during the past school year. The award consists of a medal, ribbon, and certificate.

b. Criteria. The Cadet must have consistently exhibited the best military bearing, personal appearance, deportment, and leadership ability in his/her unit.

c. Selection. Candidates for this award should appear before a board composed of JROTC instructors who will select the Cadet, IAW the above criteria.

9. Association of the United States Army (AUSA) JROTC Award

Presented annually to two Cadets who go above and beyond and exemplify the Cadet Creed. The AUSA medal will be presented to Cadets who are recognized for outstanding leadership and academic achievement. The SAI and the local AUSA chapter will establish the criteria selection for the award.

10. Military Officers Association (MOAA) JROTC Medal

a. The MOAA JROTC medal will recognize an outstanding Cadet who is in their next-to-last year of JROTC and who has demonstrated exceptional potential for military leadership. To be eligible for an award the candidate must:

(1) Be in the next-to-last year of JROTC.

(2) Be in good academic standing.

(3) Demonstrate a high degree of loyalty to the unit, school, and the country.

(4) Demonstrate exceptional potential for military leadership.

b. The recipient will be selected by the individual’s unit commander who coordinates the selection and the presentation with the local chapter. However, when the local chapter is sponsoring the award, final approval rests with the chapter and a representative of the chapter should make the award.

11. Reserve Officers Association (ROA) JROTC Award

The ROA award is presented to a Cadet in recognition of outstanding achievement and exceptional leadership ability. To be eligible for this award the candidate must:

a.(1) Be in the second year of a three-year option or the third year of a four-year option.

(2) Be in good academic standing.

(3) Demonstrate a high degree of loyalty to the units, school, community, and country.

(4) Demonstrate exceptional potential in leadership.

(5) Not have previously received this award.

b. The nomine will be selected by the SAI who will coordinate the selection and the presentation with the local chapter. However, when the local chapter is sponsoring the award, final approval rests with the chapter and a representative of the chapter should make the award presentation.

12. Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) JROTC Award

The MOPH award recognizes an outstanding Cadet who is enrolled in the Program and demonstrates leadership ability.

a. The recipient of the award must:

(1) Hold a positive attitude toward the JROTC and country.

(2) Hold a leadership position in the Cadet Corps.

(3) Be active in school and community affairs.

(4) Attain a grade of ―B‖ or better in all subjects for the previous semester. (5) Not have been a previous recipient of this award.

b. The DAI/SAI will select and present the award annually at an appropriate ceremony with a representative of the MOPH, if available.

13. Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) JROTC Award

The VFW awards are presented to Cadets in recognition of outstanding achievement and exceptional leadership ability. The medal pendant with matching ribbon bar is 1 3/8 inches in width overall consisting of a 1/8-inch gold stripe, a 1/8 inch purple stripe, a 7/8 inch gold stripe, a 1/8 inch purple stripe and a 1/8 inch gold stripe. Cadets in 10th grade or above who are actively engaged in JROTC activities are eligible for the award.

a. Criteria. Possession of individual characteristics contributing to leadership including:

(1) Positive attitude toward the JROTC.

(2) Outstanding military bearing and conduct in and out of uniform.

(3) Personal attributes (self-confidence, initiative, flexibility, and judgment).

(4) Patriotism (commander or member of color guard, drill team with or without arms, flag protocol instruction team and actively promote Americanism).

(5) Courtesy (dependability, punctuality, human relations, respect, cooperation).

(6) Growth potential (capable of assuming high leadership responsibilities in the unit with additional training and experience).

b. The recipient of the award will be selected by the unit.

14. American Veterans (AMVETS) JROTC Award

a. The AMVETS medal will be presented to Cadets (1 per high school) for outstanding leadership, community/school involvement and academic achievement.

b. Criteria. To be eligible for an award the candidate must:(1) Be in the second year of a three-year program or the third year of a four-year

program. (2) Be in good academic standing.

(3) Demonstrate a high degree of military bearing both in and out of the military uniform.

(4) Not have previously received this award.

c. The recipient will be selected by the SAI/AI who coordinates the selection and the presentation with local AMVET Chapter.

15. The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA) JROTC Award

a. The TREA award is presented to Cadet(s) in the program who demonstrate exceptional potential military leadership. To be eligible for this award the candidate must:

b. Criteria. To be eligible for an award, the candidate must:

(1) Be in the second year of a three-year option or the third year of a four-year option.

(2) Be in good academic standing. (3) Present outstanding military bearing in and out of uniform. (4) Demonstrate a high degree of loyalty to the unit, school, community and the country. (5) Not have previously received this award.

c. The recipient will be selected by the SAI/AI who coordinates the selection and the presentation with the local chapter.

16. Daedalian JROTC Achievement Award

a. The Order of Daedalians is a fraternity of commissioned military pilots from all military

services. The award consists of a medal and a ribbon bar. The medal is fashioned after an ancient Grecian plaque which depicts Daedalus and his son Icarus fabricating their legendary wings of wax and feathers.

b. Criteria. To be eligible for an award the candidate must:

(1) Demonstrate patriotism, love of country, and service to our nation.

(2) Indicate the potential and desire to pursue a military career.

(3) Rank in the upper 10% of his/her JROTC class.

(4) Rank in the upper 20% of his/her high school class.

c. The recipient will be selected by the SAI/AI who coordinates the selection and the presentation with the Order of Daedalians.

17. Celebrate Freedom Foundation/Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University JROTC Award

a. The Celebrate Freedom Foundation/Embry Riddle Aeronautical University-sponsored award consists of a certificate and ribbon and is presented annually to the outstanding first or second-year (in a 3-year program or 4-year program) Cadet. The award consists of a ribbon and a certificate.

b. The award recipient must possess/meet the following personal characteristics and eligibility criteria:

(1) Positive attitude (toward JROTC and school).

(2) Outstanding personal appearance (uniform and grooming).

(3) Display personal attributes such as initiative, judgment, and self-confidence.

(4) Courteous demeanor (promptness, obedience, and respect for customs).

(5) Growth potential (capacity for responsibility, high productivity, adaptability to change).

(6) Possession of the highest personal and ethical standards and strong positive convictions.

(7) Indicate the potential and desire to pursue a military career.

(8) Rank in the top 5% in their respective JROTC class with a grade average of ―A‖ or numerical equivalent.

(9) Rank in the top 15% of their academic class.

(10) Be recommended by the SAI as an Outstanding Cadet.

c. The SAI/AI should select the recipient by 1 March.

18. The National Society, United States Daughters of 1812 (USD 1812) JROTC Award

a. General: This award, which consists of a bronze medal pendant, ribbon bar, and certificate,

is presented to a Junior or Senior in a JROTC Program in High School who has demonstrated the qualities of Academic Excellence, Leadership, Military discipline, Dependability, Patriotism and upright character in speech and habits, which exemplify the ideals upon which our Nation was founded.

b. Criteria:

(1) Be currently enrolled in JROTC.

(2) Be in good standing in all military aspects and scholastic grades at the time of selection and presentation of the award.

(3) Exhibit a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing, all-around excellence in JROTC activities, and community service.

(4) Have indicated by military and scholastic grades, integrated-curricular activities, or individual endeavor a desire to serve his or her country.

(5) Not have previously received this award.

c. Selection. The SAI or authorized representative will select the recipient.

19. Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War JROTC Award

Awarded annually to one cadet who “shows a high degree of patriotism to his/her Nation and has demonstrated a high degree of academic performance and leadership.”

3-3. Presidential and National Physical Fitness Awards

a. Presidential Physical Fitness Award: Awarded annually to cadets who maintain excellent physical fitness. The Patch will be presented to Cadets scoring in the 85th-percentile rating or better in all five Cadet Challenge events. (CCR 145-2) (AC)

b. National Physical Fitness Award: Awarded annually to cadets who maintain excellent physical fitness. The Patch will be presented to Cadets scoring in the 50th-percentile rating or better in all five Cadet Challenge events. (CCR 145-2) (AC)

3-4: Local/Battalion Awards/Ribbons

- Local Awards are awarded every year at the battalion award ceremony (generally identified by “annually” in the ribbon description) or following an event that qualifies for an award. They can be worn many in number and are specific to each branch of JROTC (Ribbons from other units can be worn by transferees if proof can be found in their records that they earned said ribbons). With a couple exceptions many ribbons can be earned and worn by every cadet who puts forth the effort. These are personal awards Cadets earn and keep.

- Ribbons awarded at the Annual Awards Ceremony are marked with an (AC)

- Ribbons that are awarded after an appropriate event are marked with an (EV)

- Ribbons that are awarded based on participation are marked with an (PN)

a. Tiger Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI)

Worn by all Cadets in the Tiger Battalion. The DUI 1/8 inch above the HUD insignia or Academic Achievement Wreath. In order to be awarded the DUI as a LET I, a cadet must successfully complete the Cadet Creed Test, the Cadet Rank Test, and the Stationary Drill Test.

Part IV: Special Team Pins (Arcs) & Other Awards

4-1: JROTC Special Team Pins: Special Team Pins are metal arcs worn to signify participation of specific activities and teams. Arcs are worn on the right breast pocket, centered between the bottom of the pocket flap and the bottom of the pocket on the male uniform or parallel to the waistline on the female uniform Once awarded, unlike cords, arc tabs may be worn, whether an active participant in their appropriate activity or not. When wearing arcs, a maximum of 10 arcs may be worn, which will be divided into two columns of 5. If more than one arc is worn, space them 1/8 inch between each arc

CCR 145-2 Special JROTC team pins (arcs) designating various JROTC teams may be worn on the right chest pocket with DAI/SAI approval. If team pins are worn, place the DUI 1/8 inch above the MU/HU/HUD insignia or Academic Achievement Wreath. Team pins approved for wear are color guard, flag detail, drill team, JROTC bands, drum and bugle, academic, rifle team, honor guard, Cadet Challenge, raider team, JCLC, orienteering, and physical training excellence (13).

a. Color Guard (1): Criteria: Awarded to color guard members participate in at least one season of Drill and Color Guard competitions. Must attend at least one of the scheduled Drill Competitions.

Flag Detail (2): Not Used Criteria: Awarded to cadets who serve on the daily flag detail for at least 6 weeks (2 weeks in command)

b. Drill Team (3): Criteria: Awarded to Cadets who participate in at least season of Drill Team competitions. Must attend at least one of the scheduled competitions.

Orienteering (12):Criteria: Awarded to cadets who have competed in at least two orienteering events or competitions.

k. Exhibition: Criteria: Be on the exhibition team of drill team for at one season and competed in at one of the scheduled exhibition competitions.

l. National Honor Society: Criteria: Awarded to cadets who are inducted into the National Honor Society

m. Scholastic Excellence:Criteria: Awarded to cadets who with a 3.5 GPA for the school year.

n. Citizenship:Criteria: End of year award for Cadets who model the cadet creed, volunteer, participate, and go above and beyond.

o. Iron Man/Iron Woman:Criteria: Awarded to the top male and female in the battalion in the annual Cadet Challenge.

p. Varsity:Criteria: Awarded to any cadet who receives a varsity letter in athletics.

* Individual Sports Arcs - Football, Baseball, Track, Basketball, Track, Cross County, Golf, Tennis, Wrestling, etc. Can be awarded to cadets who complete a single season of that particular sport.

4-2 Lamps:

Lamps are awarded to cadets who have completed the requirement for a ribbon multiple times. The color of the lamp is based on the number of times the requirement for the ribbon has been completed. Lamps are worn on the ribbon for which the cadet has completed said requirements.

a. Bronze Lamps: Awarded to cadets who have completed the requirement for a previously earned ribbon once.

b. Silver Lamps: Awarded to cadets who have completed the requirement for a previously earned ribbon twice.

c. Gold Lamps: Awarded to cadets who have completed the requirement for a previously earned ribbon three times.

4-3: JROTC Varsity Letter:

1. The following is the policy for awarding Varsity Letters to JROTC Cadets for Drill Team, Color Guard, and Raider Team. In order to qualify, the team member must:

a. Be present and compete throughout the entire school year; attend 75% of the competitions.

b. Be present for at least 90% percent of scheduled practices.

c. Remain with the team in good standing for the entire school year.

d. Have no unexcused absences.

e. Demonstrate the high character expected of a Waynesville JROTC Cadet at all times, and IAW with Cadet Command Regulation 145-2 (enrollment and continuation standards), both in and out of school.

f. Have no in school or out of school suspensions; OSS will generally be cause for removal from the team at a minimum.

g. Read, sign, and follow the rules found in the Waynesville School District athletic commitment form.

h. Acknowledge and follow all guidelines outlined in the Waynesville High School MSHAA Handbook, which covers code of conduct, student responsibilities, eligibility, care of equipment, and sportsmanship standards.

2. To qualify for a JROTC Varsity Letter, Cadets must meet all requirements 1a through 1h.

4-4. JROTC Cloth Tabs:

The only cloth tab currently authorized and in use by the Tiger Battalion is the Raider Tab. The criteria for the Raider Tab is as follows (All criteria must be met):

a. Must attend all Raider Competitions during one season.

b. Must have been part a team that broke 25 (30?) minutes on a 5k at Competition.

c. Must have made the Raider Nationals Team.

d. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher

e. Must have been a member of a team that won 1st place at a Raider Meet/Event? or participated as a primary member of a team, which placed in the top three at a competition, or participated as a primary at US Army Raider Nationals.
