Women’s Council members are cleaning up the awards this year! Look at that list! Wow! We are so proud of all of you. Please attend The Ball this year to support all of our nominees for MIBOR awards while supporting a worthy cause in

the REALTOR® Foundation.

If you were not able to attend the

Holiday party at Valle Vista Country Club, you missed a nice event. We had a great time honoring our 2013 award winners and nominees, installing our 2014 officers and several new members. Teresa Drake led our gift exchange which is always

fun.

Kaye Hirt showed a video and talked to us about our Indianapolis Chapter 50th Year Anniversary Celebration beginning now! Past Presidents will be giving us some of the history of our Chapter beginning with the

January meeting.

Emma Dinkins, 2013 Style Show Chair, presented a check for $1100 to Priscilla Russell for the REALTOR® Foundation from the

Style Show. This money put the

foundation over their goal for 2013.

We are proud to be making a differ-

2013 Holiday Party

It has become our tradition for the Governing Board to provide our Thanksgiving feast. We are then able to donate our proceeds to local charities. This year we selected Ovar’Coming Together of Indianapolis. Local REALTOR® Nancy Hines was one of three Indianapolis women that founded this organization in 1995. Nancy is a survivor and shared with us her

passionate plea to know the symptoms.

Wanda Grabner, Charter Member and 1967 Past President, was our speaker for this meet-ing. We are rapidly approaching our 50th Anniversary in 2014. Wanda spoke to us about the “Why Women’s Council”. Wanda shared with us the struggles women faced trying to be accepted in real estate in the 60’s. Their male counterparts did not make it easy for them to

succeed in those days.

Robbie Williams presented Wanda with a Lifetime Membership on behalf of our chapter,

in honor of her remarkable service to our

Women’s Council Indianapolis Chapter. Last year’s REALTOR® and Affiliate of the Year give the honor to this year’s recipients.

Priscilla Russell, 2012 ROY came into the room

to the theme song from Rocky, bobbing and weaving in her cape. She then presented the 2013 REALTOR® of the Year award to Julia

Evinger. Lori Shoemaker presented the Affiliate of the Year award to Elaine Goad, Wells Fargo. Both of these members work tirelessly behind the scenes to help lead our chapter to another successful year. You will see them in just about

every event photo working on something. Congratulations ladies these honors are well

deserved!

REALTORS® celebrating 75 year. Yes our 75th anniversary of Women’s Council of REALTORS® which was established in 1938 and to quote Anita Davis, 2013 President “we’ve come a long way”. Conference was a jammed pack event starting with Networking and Social Hour on Wednesday Evening. Early to rise Continental Breakfast at 7:45a.m. with “Tech Thursday” which was an amazing day with “Mobile Madness” great classes tons of tips for your busi-ness. Presenters were Leigh Brown, Marki Lemons Ryhal, John Mayfield, & Juanita McDowell. “As a REAL-

TOR® your clients expect you to always be available, connected and in the know, it’s enough to overwhelm even the most tech-savvy professional. These ex-perts provided great strategies for doing more with you current mobile. They presented a marketing plan,

shared ideas for accelerating your business while meeting your clients’ expectations. At the General Assembly the “New Strategic Plan Presentation” was given, next it was Meet the Candi-dates, and was followed by the Women’s Council 75th Anniversary Celebration reception where they had a huge cake, plenty of pastries and champagne. Many attended the “ NAR Inaugural Gala of 2014 President: Steve Brown, from Dayton, Ohio. Steve is a member of “Women’s Council of REALTORS® in Dayton, Ohio. Another interesting fact about Steve Brown is that he is a graduate of Indiana University’s School of

Public and Environmental Affairs and has a graduate degrees in theology and psychology. Friday was the Annual Business Meeting and Elections. 2014 National Officers are: President: Jo Kenney, Decatur GA; President-Elect: Sindy Ready, Scottsdale, AZ; Recording Secretary: Melissa Zimbelman, Las Vegas, NV; Financial Secretary: Sherri Souza, Livermore, CA. Regional Vice President: Region 2, Maria A.

Salvador, Harwood Heights, IL. Friday evening members from across the state of Indiana attended the reception hosted by Indiana Associate of

REALTORS®. Saturday: Women’s Council Means Business with speakers Jackie Leavenworth, Denise Lones, Robert Mor-ris, & Maura Neill. It’s time to get your business in shape . Expectations are high and to succeed, you’ve got to raise the bar. Programs were fast paced mini-sessions and networking exercises that provided you with innovative new routines allowing you to break through to new levels of professionalism. Presenters provid-

ed you with heavy-hitting tools that will help you increase your bottom line.

ses . WCR Inaugural Banquet was a great Reception, Dinner and Program with a special lady our 2014 President

“Jo Kenney. Jo was honored with many from her home state of Georgia and also in attendance was NAR President Steve Brown who told how proud he was to be a member of Women’s Council of REALTORS®. Jo’s gift to each of those who attended was a beautiful leather journal to record our memories of 2014. It was special to Jo as when she was elected to her first National office she was presented with a beautiful journal and she has been able to fill it with wonderful memories of her journey to President. Other Indianapolis Chapter at-tendees were Bobbie Naugle and Robbie Williams. Thanks to all of you as it was my privilege to attend this

REALTORS® chapter in 1938. • In 1947, Seven strong minded women got together to form the Women’s Real Estate

Board after being denied membership to the Indianapolis Real Estate Board. • Margaret Evans was the first female to operate her own brokerage and the first to serve

as Vice President of the Women’s Real Estate Board of Indianapolis in 1947. • Helen Hirt formed the first Indianapolis Women’s Council Chapter in 1964 with 48

members. • Indianapolis Charter members were: Helen Hirt, Lee Burch, Margaret Evans, Wanda

Grabner, Mary Jane Liebold, Nancy McNulty, Julia Moore, Jane Steadman, Eleanor

Glickstein, Joanna Walker and Lorine Ward. • Helen Hirt was the first woman recognized by the Indianapolis Real Estate Board as

REALTOR® of the Year in 1970. • Helen Hirt became the president of the National Women’s Council of REALTORS® in

1975. • Helen Hirt was the first female president of the Indianapolis Real Estate Board in 1976.
