We are community.
We are:Students – A diverse group that comes together through their love of music; who learn, laugh, and make friendships that last for years.
Parents – Who see their children grow and excel; who meet other parents through OYO volunteer and fundraising activities.
Conductors – Professional musicians and experienced music educators who understand that making music is a gift that lasts a lifetime.

What is SCORE?OYO SCORE is an orchestral performance program funded through donations from individuals and business organizations, such as Meijer, dedicated to supporting community youth pro-grams. This programs offers elementary through high school students in underserved communities the opportunity to par-ticipate in OYO’s premier music education program.
How SCORE Works• Fill out the attached application form and mail to the address
indicated on the form.
• A representative from OYO will contact you to arrange a meeting to discuss participation opportunities. The amount of tuition aid will be determined during the meeting based upon financial need and qualifications.
• An audition with an OYO conductor will then be scheduled to determine placement is one of OYO’s four orchestras.
We are OYOUnited by their love of music, over 350 elementary through high school students from southeast Michigan come together each week to fulfill their desire to deepen their musical experience.
Through our four-tiered orchestra program – Studio String, String, Philharmonia and Symphony Orchestras – we teach, guide, and foster musical growth in a friendly, supportive atmosphere.
We laugh, we play – literally.
HistoryOakland Youth Orchestras (OYO) was established in 1975 with a mere 60 members. As an independent non-profit organization, our musicians today hail from over 24 public school districts and numerous private, parochial, and home schools. Our alumni pursue careers both in and outside of the music field.
Since OYO’s founding, Oakland University has provided in-kind space for rehearsals, meetings, auditions, and concerto com-petitions. Our partnership now extends to the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance, where professors provide sectional and chamber ensemble coaching on musicianship and tech-nique. In addition, classes in music theory are offered through the Music Preparatory Division.
