Area Health Education Center (AHEC)Links medical students and the medical school to the community through health education and non-medical community service
Community Health Programs (CHP)Provides free or low-cost health services to residents of Southeastern Ohio.
In 2005, CHP and AHEC united under one director, Kathy Trace, MHA.

We are continually developing new programs to better meet health needs in Appalachia.
BackgroundBackground
In 1994, the Childhood Immunization Program began with one mobile medical unit.
The program grew in subsequent years to meet other health needs in the area.
In 2001, a second mobile medical unit was added.
The efforts were renamed Community Health Programs in 2006.

Assists with smoking cessation, nutrition, exercise and prenatal education services
Provides depression screenings, social and emotional support, case management and referrals to other community agencies
Since the program’s inception in 2000, preterm birth rates in Athens County have dropped below state and national level
