ativity and increase student achievement. We will do this, by working collaboratively with

parents and our community partners, and by fostering a safe and nurturing environment

where students are encouraged to reach their maximum potential.”

Every year, during the last week of October, 80 million people show their commit-

ment to a healthy drug free lifestyle through Red Ribbon Week. This year we will be

celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 24th- October 28th. In order for your

child to show his/her commitment to a healthy drug free lifestyle, your child has the

opportunity to participate in the following activities:

Monday, October 27- "TIE DRUGS DOWN!" – Students are encouraged to wear the

craziest tie they can find for a "Tie Down Drugs" event.

Tuesday, October 28- "TEAM UP AGAINST DRUGS!" - Students are encouraged to

team up for their fight against drugs by wearing their favorite sports team shirt to

school or their school t-shirt.

Wednesday, October 29- "SOCK IT TO DRUGS DAY!" - Students are encouraged to

wear their craziest or most unusual socks to show their decision to "SOCK" it to drugs!

Thursday, October 30- "TURN YOUR BACK ON DRUGS DAY!" - Students are encour-

aged to wear their T-Shirt backwards to represent they are turning their backs on

drugs.

Friday, October 31—"DRUG FREE IS THE HEALTHY WAY TO BE!" - Students are en-

couraged to wear red shirts to say no to using harmful drugs and yes to making

healthy, responsible choices. By wearing red they show they have respect for them-

selves and others.

Enjoy Red Ribbon Week!

campus and we really appreciate your help. From helping with picture day, 4th grade Tye-

Dye Day, classroom assistants, Manta Store Popsicle Sale, helping with covering gates in the

morning and out in the car lines, just to name a few. Please know we could not do everything

we do for our students and staff without you!! THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

* Please join me in welcoming back Kim Fernandez. Kim will serve as a second para profes-

sional (joining Ann Yagle) on campus. She will work between the elementary and middle

grades campuses, working one on one, and / or pulling small groups of students. Kim holds a

current Florida teaching certificate, and is highly qualified to teach middle grades math. We

are glad to have her on our team again

* Good luck to all of our students who are running for Student Council positions. Campaign

day is Thursday, October 9th and Voting day is Friday, October 10th. |

* If anyone is interested in joining art club they can stop by Ms. McClelland's Art room after

school to pick up an application. All applications are due Friday Oct 3, 2014. 15 students will

be selected randomly from the applications turned in. The winning participants will be noti-

fied by email before October 6th.

* John’s Pass Seafood Festival is Friday, October 24- Sunday, October 26th. This year there

will be parking available at our school for a small fee of $5 per car load. There will be contin-

uous shuttles to take you to the festival. ALL PROCEEDS will go directly to our PTSA to benefit

our school.

* Happy October from the Elementary PE Department! A lot of fun activities are planned for

the month of October and we do not want ANY students to miss out. Please be sure your

children are following the Student Dress Code. In addition please have your child bring a wa-

ter bottle out to PE with his/her name on it so they are properly hydrated, hats are also en-

couraged outside of the buildings. As the weather cools down some of the PE activities will be

on the back court basketball area and large field area, water bottles and hats are a good idea

during these types of activities. Rainy weather has been an obstacle for PE these past couple

of weeks, we are delighted to announce we were still able to move forward with our Being Fit

Matters Testing for the fall. Even with these obstacles we are almost completely finished and

the students are doing great!

Bullying and Harassment

How do I make a report?

We are committed to providing a safe learning environment and will not tolerate Bullying/

Harassment or Teen Dating Violence and Abuse of any kind. Incidents can be reported

verbally to the Principal, Assistant Principal or any staff member or reported online at

one of the below links: http://harassment.pcsb.org http://teendatingviolence.pcsb.org

Anonymous reports can also be made using the District Electronic Reporting Form, or

by calling the Campus Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-873-8477, or by texting keyword

TIP144 plus your message to CRIMES (274637). Students can also fill out an electronic

report using any computer where they feel safe, school or home.

The old saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.” is very untrue. Words have the greatest impact as does physical harm on a human be-ing. The sooner an incident is reported, the more quickly it can be investigated.

Take Stock in Children Pinellas

Providing Scholarships, Mentors and Hope

The Take Stock in Children scholarship program

is for students that qualify for free/reduced lunch,

earn C’s or higher in their classes, have good at-

tendance, good behavior, and have additional risk

factors that make achieving a college or technical school education

after high school a challenge.

Our program is based on the principal that given extensive sup-

port, motivation and accountability, children will work hard to en-

sure that they graduate from high school and attain a college or

technical school degree.

If you would like to nominate a deserving student in grades 6 - 10

to be in the Take Stock in Children scholarship program, go to the

following link and complete the nomination form.
