Dear Parishioners,

This coming week will celebrate the Feast of Saint Francis on October 4th and traditionally on October 7th we celebrate the Feast of the

Holy Rosary. Both feasts are very important and “popular” for many people because of Mary’s fidelity to God and maternal care for the Savior of the world and St. Francis’ holiness and love for God and undivided care for the poor and all God created.

With this in mind, the Rosary Society’s annual luncheon on Sunday, October 14th, taking place at Trinity Restaurant on Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park, features a distinguished guest speaker, Brother Bill Boslet, who will speak about “Mary in the Life, Thoughts and Prayers of Saint Francis.” Brother Bill is known around the diocese and beyond because he is the former Superior General of the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn and has traveled extensively over the years to different places where the Franciscans are in ministry.

Brother Bill’s reflection on our Blessed Lady and St. Francis will be worthwhile and enlightening as we learn about the spiritual friendship and bond between these two holy ones particularly through the writings of Saint Francis. Without a doubt, Brother Bill’s reflection and life as a Francisan Brother will give witness to the call to holiness in all of our lives.

Attractive flyers about the Mass and delicious luncheon on Sunday, October 14th are on the tables in the Gathering Space and all Rosarians and ladies in the parish are cordially invited. Please return the completed form and payment to the Parish Office no later than Tuesday, October 9th. Please feel free to invite friends, neighbors and fellow parishioners to join you.

Also, on the Feast of Saint Francis this Thursday, not one but two opportunities in commemoration of Saint Francis are scheduled in the parish. At 4:00 PM in the shrine area on 258 Street the annual blessing of the animals will take place and already our parish pets are excited! Then at 7:30 PM in Bishop Chappetto Hall the highly acclaimed film, “The Sultan and the Saint” starring Zach Beyer, Jeremy Irons and Alexander McPherson will be shown on the silver screen. See today’s bulletin for all the details.

May we answer the call to holiness everyday in our lives through the intercession of our Blessed Mother and Saint Francis.

Film: “

“THE SULTAN AND THE SAINT’

The Sultan and the Saint (2016) tells one of the great, lost stories from history. Set in a past period of East-West conflict, it speaks with urgency to our present. This story about two men of faith, one an itinerant Christian preacher, the other the ruler of a Muslim Empire, bucked a century of war, distrust, and insidious propaganda in a search for mutual respect and common ground. Starring Zach Beyer, Jeremy Irons and Alexander McPherson, it is the story of Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt, and their meeting on a bloody battlefield during the period of Christian- Muslim conflict known as the Crusades. Join two of our parish’s Secular Franciscans in viewing this epic film, “The Sultan and the Saint”.
