Dear Parishioners,

This weekend we launch the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal at Our Lady of the Snows.

We join in solidarity with all the parishes in Brooklyn and Queens in helping Bishop DiMarzio to continue the pastoral work entrusted to him on a larger scale. Every parish is conducting its in-pew solicitation and through the generous hearts of everyone much needed funds can be raised

to help diocesan works including Catholic Charities, retired priests, Catholic Migration, vocations, etc.

As a parish we are grateful for all that we have done in the past to help the diocese through the Annual Catholic Appeal. Last year we successfully surpassed our assigned goal and we received back at the parish $6,313.00. Such generosity in the parish and on the part of every

parishioner enabled the diocese and the parish to be successful. The theme for the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal is, “Faith and Good Works.” The

beloved Saint Francis of Assisi once said, “Let us have charity and humility, and give alms. At death we lose all that we have in this world, but we take with us charity and the alms- the deeds we have done, and for these we shall receive a great reward from God.” Such a reflection may

help us to consider the countless ways we are blessed and our willingness to share in faith and good works. The Annual Catholic Appeal is one way of participating as Christian stewards in love and justice and be generous in the joyful works of the Church.

With this in mind, I kindly ask you to make a pledge to this year’s Appeal. Truly everyone has different means and I will always respect this. No gift, great or small, is

unimportant. Through our sacrifice and almsgiving we can be assured that our act of charity will renew us in faith along with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Our assigned goal for this year is $100,224.00. Without a doubt through the

participation of every parishioner we will be able to meet this goal and surpass it and through our combined means help the diocese in its pastoral work and mission. Many parishioners have already made a pledge through a mailing received in their home, and today we extend the

opportunity to everyone in the parish. As mentioned in previous years, some parishioners are able to take part in matching funds through their employers and this is a great help. Today’s bulletin contains two inserts with more details about the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal and I

encourage you to prayerfully consider your sacrificial giving. I thank you for all you do with your time, talent and treasure in our parish and beyond.

You are living witnesses to the Lord’s words: “Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you” (Lk. 6:38).

JOURNEY, CROSS & CRUCIFIXION

2019 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL is off to a good start at Our Lady of the Snows. Thank you to all who already have made a pledge to this year’s diocesan Appeal with the mailing received at home. In the next few weeks everyone will be encouraged to take part in this year’s Appeal by making a generous donation so that we can reach our assigned goal of $101,224.00. Feel free to view this Year’s Appeal video at www.dioceseofbrooklyn.org

and offer daily the Appeal prayer printed in today’s bulletin. Together may our faith and good works assist the Diocese and our parish.

CATHOLIC APPEAL PRAYER

God and Father of all gifts,

we praise You the source of all who we are.

Teach us to acknowledge always

with generous gratitude

the many good things

Your infinite love has given us,

as we support the work of the Church

in Brooklyn and Queens.

Open our hearts

that we may answer your call

to follow the message of the Gospel

as disciples in love and service,

so that all may come to know You.

We ask this

through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you

and the Holy Spirit, one God,

forever and ever.

Amen

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY is on Sunday, April 28th. Based on the Divine Mercy message shared with St. Faustina Kowalska all the faithful implore God’s mercy for the entire world, to be merciful and forgiving towards others and to trust completely in God. On April 28th, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed in our church at 3:00PM with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and sung Vespers. Come with family and friends and pray this devotion which has helped many.

DAWN MASS will take place on Easter Sunday,

April 21st at 6:00 AM outdoors in the church gardens near the statue of Mary on 258th Street. What a wonderful moment to welcome the Resurrection-Event with an outdoor Eucharist awaiting the first rays of a new dawn. Everyone is invited with family, friends and fellow parishioners. Following the Mass there will be a light breakfast offered in St. Joseph Hall. Help is needed in many ways to make the morning a joyful time. We are looking for donations of breakfast items (baked goods, donuts, orange juice, coffee, tea, milk, fruit, etc.) Some people are needed for set-up of chairs, clean-up and serving the breakfast. If you wish to help please sign up on the sheets on the bulletin board in the Gathering Space of the church today. For those donating food items please drop them off at the Parish Office on Holy Saturday, April 20th. If you have any questions please call Father McBrien.
