weather unit water cycle
DESCRIPTION
Water CycleTRANSCRIPT
Water travels in a cycle yes it does.
The water cycle is driven by the sun
• Water is always moving
• Evaporation
• condensation• precipitation• transpiration
Evaporation
• Heat causes liquid water to turn into a gas
• everyday tons of water evaporates from oceans, lakes, rivers, & moist soil
• This warm gas rises
Condensation
• As water vapor cools it turns from a gas to a liquid
• when a large amount of water vapor condenses on dust particles, a cloud forms
Types of condensation
• Humidity• dew
• frost• fog
Precipitation
• Water falling back to Earth
• when water in the clouds gets to heavy, then gravity goes to work
Types of precipitation
• Rain • sleet
• snow• hail• drizzle
• dew
Runoff
• After precipitation, water that runs back into a river, lake, or ocean
Groundwater
• Some rain soaks into the soil forming pockets underground
• eventually most of this returns to a larger body of water
Transpiration
• Loss of water vapor from plants
• Evaporates out through the leaves
How does this affect weather?
???????????????
• What causes evaporation?
• Where on Earth does evaporation occur?
• What causes condensation?
• How do mountain ranges affect the water cycle?
• How does temperature affect precipitation?
