BULLETIN EDITOR – Lion Marge Ollis
It is nearing the end of MARCH 2015 – Boy does time fly!! Congratulations Yvie and Kel on your well deserved Melvin Jones Fellowship Awards. Stewart and I took up the Early
Bird prize to Opal Cove in Coffs Harbour from last years District Convention. We were rained out with the tail of the cyclone beating down on the Coast, causing 6foot drop erosion of the beach. First photo was the day after we arrived, second photo was the day we left for Bowraville.
We attended the Coffs Harbour Lions Club for their DG’s visit and met up with Yvie and Kel and had a great time. DG Peter inducted 3 new members to the club on that evening.
We then had a couple of days with the Mott’s at Bowraville.
Jeff was doing his “Master Key” impersonation trying to retrieve the keys that had been locked in the shed, before we could do a sightseeing tour of the area. All ok, Jeff succeeded in “Breaking in”.
I have included a picture of Bernie (a local Lion with a disability following his fall which broke the bone in the upper part of the arm near the joint). Stewart has being there for Bernie and takes him to doctor, Lions meetings etc. My contribution has been 40 hours producing the quilt in the picture as a gift for Bernie. Articles for the Bulletin to be emailed to Lion Marge Ollis by 7th of each month please. At [email protected] or
Regards Lion Marge
MY PHOTO OF THE MONTH
Peek – a – boo
Little Jimmy has grown into a full grown dog, he is now 2 years old and weighs a big 1.8 kgs.
One would think that butter
wouldn’t melt in his mouth,
well guess again the
biggest of dogs run away
from him and he loves
scaring the daylights out of
kids.
All this aside, he is a delight
to have and Big Daddy Kel
is the love of his life.

REPORT SECTION
President’s Report February 2015 - Lion Neil Bilney Congratulation to Yvie and Kel. On behalf of Lionsonoz and all Lions, thank you for making things better for others in our community. Found an interesting article put out by the ABC. It was headed "Rotary Nomads: Volunteers on the road in first club of its kind in Australia" an "E-club" . It looks like we need to be continually promoting Lionsonoz to keep it out there. I am also surprised how many existing Lions members that are totally
unaware of the option to move to Lionsonoz when they want to go extended travelling. All I can say is that we should never let an opportunity pass by to tell our story. Maybe the changeover, with all the members at convention should get onto the ABC and tell of our ??? years of Liononoz in Australia, as long as you haven't partaken in too much red wine. Travel safe and hope to see you on the road somewhere.
Lion Neil
Secretary’s Report February 2015 – Lion Gwyneth Payne February has again been a busy month with the Nomination Night and the District Governor Peter Willis-Jones official visit to our Lions Club held February 16th. It was a great night with Lions Yvie and Kel Kearns joining us at Lions Brenda and
Rod Payne’s home for the meeting and dinner after. I think that DG Peter was impressed with the way we conduct our meetings and Lion Pam gave Lion Yvie a crash course in crocheting.
Lions Yvie and Kel Kearns were still on a very big high as they had received their Melvin Jones Fellowships on the Saturday Night at the District Cabinet Meeting. I think that lion Arthur Leech was really pleased that we found a suitable venue to do the presentation as he had been holding the financial reports in case Lion Yvie and Kel found out that they were to receive the MJF. March 16th Meeting will be the Election Night as well as choosing the delegates for the MD Convention in Newcastle. We are allowed 4 delegates and 4 alternates (PDG’s not automatic
delegates at a MD Convention only at the District Convention).
We also need to decide what date our Change Over will be as we have historically held this at the time of the MD Convention.
Regards Lion Gwyneth
Membership Chairman’s Report– Lion Stewart Payne
We were very pleased to welcome transferring Lion from the Northern Territory Lion Arthur James. We look forward to talking to him on line at the March 16th Meeting. We have also received two application for transfer and these will be forwarded to the Membership Committee which will meet March 8th 2015 and with recommendations to go to the March 16th meeting. Please remember to wear your lapel pin every day!
Regards Lion Stewart

Barry Gazzard for assistance with disposal of these. Lion Barry and Lions Lady Ling take or
send these glasses to Malaysia, a very good project or they will send them to The Lions Club of
South West Rocks who also collects eyeglasses. A good project to be involved with. Lion Barry Gazzard contact email is [email protected]

CLUB CARE REPORT FEBRUARY 2015 - Lion Cheryl Buckley
A very short report from me this month. It is not our busiest Lions season, but it has been very busy on the home and friend circuit. We are really looking forward to catching up with many Lionsonoz members over the next couple of months. Our President’s back has been giving him a lot of angst. We are very pleased to be staying quite close to the Bilney home in April and will be able to take all the good vibes from the East to help bring cheer and well being. The trek to Newcastle will be great fun for those on the vanners line. We all look forward to hearing about the adventures and frivolity when we meet up at the Convention.
Stay safe and travel carefully,
Lion Cheryl

RISE ABOVE IT.
Davey Crockett had a simple motto: "Make sure you are right, then go ahead." Everyone of
us, like every successful person you will ever meet, faces moments of criticism. No matter what
your career involvement, the more successful you become, the more criticism you will receive.
Only those who don't attempt anything remain forever above criticism.
Being criticized is not a problem if you develop a positive way of dealing with it. Winston
Churchill had framed on the wall of his office the following words of Abraham Lincoln:
"I DO THE VERY BEST I CAN, I MEAN TO KEEP GOING. IF THE END BRINGS ME OUT
ALL RIGHT, THEN WHAT IS SAID AGAINST ME WON'T MATTER. IF I'M WRONG, TEN
ANGELS SWEARING I WAS RIGHT WON'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE."
Churchill received much criticism in his lifetime and Lincoln was roundly criticized in his day, just
as most of our public figures are today. It takes a person of great courage to forge ahead and
do what he honestly believes to be right when critics are howling against him.
Remember that all the water in the world won't sink your boat if it doesn't get inside. Rise above
it. Make certain you are right, and then stand by your convictions.
Don't be afraid of opposition. Remember, a kite rises against, not with, the wind.
AUSTRALIAN LIONSONOZ KNITTING REPORT
February, 2015. Is this a Teddy Bears picnic or a District Governor’s visit
to the Pacific City Lions Club, well we combined the both
to make a very enjoyable evening. These little teddies will
end up in the Coffs Harbour Hospital soothing little kids who are having scans, X-rays
etc. They get to take one home with them and the nurses are grateful to us providing
them.
Again the ladies from Pacific City Lioness Club have given me a bag full of jumpers to be
given out to those in need.
Finally I have put
together several
packages each
containing face
washers, bunny
rug, jumper or
poncho and
beanie some also
containing a toy
teddy or duck.
Secretary
Gwyneth and Lion
Stewart will be
delivering these to the Moree and Inverell hospital for me. Thank all of you who have
made some of these items, without your help this project would not have happened.
Lion Yvie Kearns
MELVIN JONES FELLOWSHIP PRESENTATION On Saturday 14th February 2015 Lion Kel Kearns and Lion Yvie Kearns were presented each a Melvin Jones Fellowship at the 201N1 District Cabinet Dinner. The District Governor Peter Willis-Jones presented the Melvin Jones Fellowship’s to Lions Yvie and Kel.
DG Peter called Lion Yvie to the front table and said that Lion Yvie had introduced him many times being the Zone Chairman and he was now going to introduce her to everyone now.
(Lion Yvie told me that she thought at the time that DG was going to fine or pick on her for the way she has introduced him.)
DG Peter also then called Lion Kel
and introduced him and it wasn’t
until DG Peter said
The Lions Club of Australian Lionsonoz has great pleasure in presenting Lion Yvie and Lion Kel with a
Melvin Jones Fellow each as recognition for their Humanitarian Service to the Communities in which they have lived and those they now visits. That they knew it was something special!
Well if you know Lion Yvie she was absolutely stunned speechless (and that is very out of character) as was Lion Kel and I think the photos I am sending sets the scene well. Australian Lionsonoz was represented by Jeff Mott, Lynne Mott, Arthur Leech, Stewart and Gwyneth Payne The occasion and time was seen to be the appropriate time for this to happen, with about 60 Lions at the dinner many of whom were very long term friends, as Lion Yvie and Kel were not planning on attending the MD Convention and we could not keep on deferring the financial reports until May so that they would not find out. It was a great night and I know that all our members feel extremely proud of Lion Kel’s and Lion Yvie’s contribution and congratulate them on receiving the Melvin Jones Fellowship’s

LYNNE MOTT’S GARDEN Lynne has a plant growing in the garden that the locals call “Mott’s Erection”. This plant is actually a Mauritius Hemp plant which grows with leaves approx 7ft long and a spike that shoots up 40ft. It takes 10years to grow and flower – then dies. Lynne thought it was a Gymea Lily until it flowered. The Motts home is on a corner block at cross roads and the plant can be seen from all directions. Lion Marge
Fishing Report
Last Monday I fished in Keepit Dam and caught 1 nice Yellowbelly on a lure.
Keepit Dam, South of Gunnedah is only 5% full at the moment but in the main basin the water is
still 32 ‘ deep. My sounder is showing literally thousands of fish, all about 1 meter deep under the
surface of the water, but they are not really on the bite
The previous week I caught 4 Yellowbellies in Keepit Dam. 1 on shrimp,1 on a cast lure and 2 on
lures trolled.
I try to go fishing every week, mostly on a Monday and I have not come home empty handed for
many weeks. Unfortunately I am not very good at “selfies” so I have not been taking any photos of
me and my catches. I see I will have to try harder.
The lure I am using is a pink Kokada with a small spinner attached to it. The lure needs to be
retrieved or trolled almost dead slow but when it is taken the fish hit it like there is no tomorrow.
It is very difficult writing a fishing report when I am not getting any news of anybody else wetting a
line.
Surely some of our members are out there fishing. Please send me your stories.
Pictured: This is the pink Kokada lure with a
spinning arrangement attached which is doing
all the damage

Editor: -Sorry Warren, I do not fish!!

NO PUN INTENDED 1. Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was
excellent..
2. A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, "I'll serve you, but don't start anything."
3. Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted.
4. A dyslexic man walked into a bra.
5. A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm, and says: "A beer please, and one for the road."
6. Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: "Does this taste funny to you?"
7. "Doc, I can't stop singing The Green, Green Grass of Home."
"That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome."
"Is it common?"
"Well, It's Not Unusual."
8. Two cows are standing next to each other in a field.
Daisy says to Dolly, "I was artificially inseminated this morning."
"I don't believe you," says Dolly.
"It's true; no bull!" exclaims Daisy.
9. An invisible man marries an invisible woman. The kids were nothing to look at either.
10. Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before.
11. I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day, but I couldn't find any.
12. I went to a seafood disco last week... and pulled a mussel.
13. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says, "Dam!"
14. Two men sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Not surprisingly it sank, proving once
again that you can't have your kayak and heat it, too.
15. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel, and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent
tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why," they asked, as they moved off.
"Because," he said. "I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer."
16. A woman has twins, and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt , and is named 'Ahmal.' The other goes to a family in Spain ; they name him 'Juan.' Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself
to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of
Ahmal. Her husband responds: "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."
17. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from
bad breath. This made him (oh, man, this is so bad, it's good)... a super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by
halitosis.
18. A dwarf, who was a mystic, escaped from jail. The call went out that there was a small medium at large.
