Salem Heights Church, Angel Alert Children's Christmas Program, Pastor Ron Schafer, Lord's Supper, 1 Peter, The End, December 15TRANSCRIPT
DECEMBER 15, 2013
Our Purpose...
To reach people with the love of Jesus Christ, provide a safe and
supportive environment, proclaim the standards of God’s truth,
duplicate the Christian life in others, and celebrate the majesty
and works of Our Great God.
New to Salem Heights?
Welcome! We are glad you’re here! We invite you to
seek out the folks wearing the “Ask Me” badge.
Through them you will find information about the
ministries of Salem Heights Church and how to
become involved. Please fill out a Visitor Card and drop
it in one of the offering boxes as you leave or scan this
code to go directly to our website and fill out a visitor card. We have
an excellent nursery and programs for children newborn through high
school. Any of the ushers will be happy to direct you to the proper
classroom. If you feel more comfortable having your infant with you
during the service, the last row in the Auditorium will be reserved for
parents with small children. There is a private room for nursing
mothers across the hall from the Auditorium with a rocking chair,
changing table and portable crib. For your convenience, it also
includes a monitor to enable you to still hear and view the service.

Giving Update
THE MINISTRY OF SALEM HEIGHTS CHURCH The ministry of Salem Heights Church is funded entirely by the generous giving of God’s people. You will notice that we do not pass the offering plate; however, there are offering boxes in the back of the auditorium. We have done this so no one gives out of compulsion. We believe from the Word of God that the Spirit of God will lead people towards giving back to God of their first fruits. “...God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7) and we know He blesses those who take His Word seriously in every regard. Thank you for prayerfully supporting Salem Heights financially as we desire to reach the lost and disciple the Saints.
(Prayerfully consider what the Lord would have you do.)

THE END (Of the Study of First Peter)
Part 132
Presented by Pastor Ron Schafer
There are many aspects of the Christian life that we
don’t fully understand and yet we, as believers, take God at
His Word. Concepts like grace, mercy, heaven, creation of the
universe and the destruction of this present heaven and earth
are vast, yet we believe what God says about them. His Word
is truth and our level of understanding does not in any way
change the truth and reliability of Holy Scripture.
There is one biblical concept that causes much discussion
and even doubt about God’s Word. It is the difficult topic of
“suffering.” As children of God, why must we suffer? What is
the purpose of all these trials that result in agony and pain?
Simply put, why must life be so painful? Someone has said
that we as Christians either get “bitter or better” as we live
the Christian life. Since the main theme of First Peter is
“Suffering,” in final exhortation of this letter, the author
answers these questions.
• We must understandunderstandunderstandunderstand the importance of biblical, righteous
suffering.
• Suffering is the resultresultresultresult of trials in our life.
• Suffering always involves mentalmentalmentalmental anxiety and pain.
• Normally, the greatest spiritual growthgrowthgrowthgrowth in any believer
comes through trials.
• God’s grace is most clearly understood and valuedvaluedvaluedvalued as a
result of suffering.
• Since all three enemies tempt us to be independent of God
and His Word, suffering is God’s way of keeping us closeclosecloseclose
and dependent on Him.
• Our presentpresentpresentpresent suffering must be kept in perspective! These
days are very short in view of foreverforeverforeverforever.
REMEMBERREMEMBERREMEMBERREMEMBER … By nature we are independent; by
appointmentappointmentappointmentappointment we are to be dependent.
THE BELIEVER’S RESPONSIBILITY
GOD’S AMAZING PROMISE
• As we endure the suffering, our gracious God is personally,
supernaturally workingworkingworkingworking in our lives.
• To endure each session of suffering we must have faithfaithfaithfaith in
God’s Word, be thankful all the time, time, time, time, and continually
communicate with our heavenly Father through prayerprayerprayerprayer.
• God promises to:
Perfect Us Perfect Us Perfect Us Perfect Us = He will completely adjustadjustadjustadjust us, mend or repair
us, or restore us spiritually.
Confirm Us Confirm Us Confirm Us Confirm Us = He will make us feel securesecuresecuresecure and confirm
our convictions about our relationship with Christ.
Strengthen Us Strengthen Us Strengthen Us Strengthen Us = He will provide supernatural power to
endureendureendureendure and benefit from our trials.
Establish Us Establish Us Establish Us Establish Us = He will stabilize us on the foundationfoundationfoundationfoundation of
His Word.
REMEMBERREMEMBERREMEMBERREMEMBER … God called us to be children of light: through
suffering, God will accomplish His purposepurposepurposepurpose in us here on
earth.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
1. Have variousvariousvariousvarious trials made you bitter or better?
2. Has the enemy seduced you to believebelievebelievebelieve you can avoid trials?
3. Are you more dependentdependentdependentdependent on God and His Word now than
you were this time last year?
