World Book Day Thursday 4th March

On Thursday 4th March it is World Book Day, a day where we celebrate books and all of the wonderful worlds they open for us. As a school, we would still like to celebrate this day. Here are a

few things you can join in with from home.

School art project- ‘Marvellous Hats’Your teachers will share with you a video of the story ‘Mille’s Marvellous Hat’. In the story a salesman sells Millie an imaginary hat that can be any size, shape or colour she wishes - all Millie has to do is imagine. Millie loves her new hat. On the way home she imagines she is wearing a peacock hat; she passes a bakery and her hat is made of towering cakes; in the park her hat is a fountain. Millie notices that everyone is wearing their own imaginary hat.

We would like you to make your own ‘marvellous hat’. Your hat can be made from whatever materials you like or take a hat you already own and add to it. The hat could be representative of a book, or maybe a character or an object from a book that you love. If you would prefer, it can reflect things that are important or special to you. There are some examples below:

Be as creative as you like and allow your imagination to run wild but remember you don’t have to over complicate the design. If your favourite book is The Hungry Caterpillar, your hat might be very green and feature a caterpillar or if you like Charlotte’s Web, your hat may look like a big spider’s web. We are really excited to see all the hats on World Book Day. Enjoy being creative! Here are some steps that can help you: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Paper-Hat (Step by step instructions)Remember to take a photo of you in your hat and upload it to your remote learning platform. We would then like to make a gallery of our school’s marvellous hats.

Guess the readerSome of our teachers will be reading a story to you in disguise. They will give you three clues about who they could be and we want you to guess who is reading the story.

Activities during the day:

How many stories can you spot hidden in the picture?

Can you make your version of this picture for your teacher?

Write a twitter review about a book you have read

Create a quiz about a book you have read with your class or a book that is special to you. Upload your quiz to your remote learning platform.

Although we won’t be in school together, there are still plenty of opportunities to listen to and share a story. The World Book Day website will be sharing stories on the day for you all to listen to: https://www.youtube.com/c/WorldBookDayUK

https://www.worldbookday.com/events/

Take some time to read one of your favourite stories during the day. Take a photo of you reading in an unusual place and upload it to your remote learning platform. We would love to add these to our photo gallery.

We usually dress as our favourite book characters on this day when we talk about our favourite books. Your teachers will be sharing their favourite stories with you (some of them in costume). If you would still like to dress up for the day we would of course love to see photos of your outfits.

The most important thing is take some time away from the screen and enjoy a good book!
