Remember to: describe the place the activity took place, write in the past tense, use personal pronouns (I, we, my, me), talk about feelings, use time conjunctions (after that, next, meanwhile, this evening). 2. Go outside and observe some of the natural elements around you. You might see trees, grass, flowers, clouds, stones… Make a list of things you see and include an adjective to describe each one. There is a ‘Word Mat Pack’ on the school website that can support you with all your writing if you wish to use it. 3. ‘The clouds were as fluffy as cotton wool’. See if you can use the items you noted down yesterday and create some similes to describe the natural elements you found. 4. Read ‘Garden Birds Comprehension’ and see if you can answer the questions. 5. Head outside and enjoy some free writing time. Sit outside and think about what you would like to write about. English writing

Let’s get writing outside!

1.Write and illustrate a one-week diary of any outdoor activities you complete this week.

Can you remember what this descriptive technique is? That’s right – I used a simile! I compared one item with another to create a picture in your mind. See if you can use the items you noted down yesterday and create some similes to describe the natural elements you found.

4. Read ‘Garden Birds Comprehension’ and see if you can answer the questions.

5. Head outside and enjoy some free writing time. Sit outside and think about what you would like to write about. Think of the freshness of spring and the beauty that surrounds you. You could describe your surroundings using your five senses, you could describe a feeling, you could create a story…

There will be a daily maths lesson if you click on the above link for White Rose Maths. A lot of you said you have found them really helpful and some have even carried on with the BBC Bitesize activities afterwards, well done!

ALSO…

With the weather looking beautiful for next week, we have found some Outdoor Maths Challenge cards (they will be on our website). This is what they look like:

Try and choose some that you like the look of and aim to complete a couple over the week? Let us know how your investigations go and if you were proved right or wrong? Most importantly, have fun with them! See if there are opportunities to get your grown-ups involved as it might be something they haven’t learnt about before!

Foundation subjects Outdoor Classroom Day – 21 st May Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. In 2019, over 3 million children in over 100 countries took part. Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood. On this day we would like you to spend as much time outside as you can to have a fun, no paper, no marking day in the great outdoors! We would love to see photos of what fun you get up to!Here are some ideas for you:

- Play I Spy outside with your family – you could describe the object for them to guess

- Read a book out in the fresh air - Find some leaves, petals, twigs to create a collage (pictures)- Go for a walk with your family and describe what you can see – can you find

something that begins with every letter of the alphabet? - Take your favourite board game outside and play- Use some chalk to draw noughts and crosses on the floor – you could use stones

and leaves instead of noughts and crosses- Choose some of the Maths challenge cards to complete outside - there are some

fun investigations about measuring the height of a tree by looking through your legs! Have a look…I know it sounds strange!
