The Provincial Priory visits Brandling Preceptory No. 239 St George of Lydda A portrait by Hans von Kulmbach (circa 1510) On Tuesday 20th March, Officers of the Provincial Priory of Northumberland, led by the Sub Prior, E Kt Kevin Stannard, made the first of this year's official visits, on this occasion to Brandling Preceptory No. 239. Although few in number, the Knights of Brandling Preceptory were pleased to be supported by so many of the Provincial Officers and especially a very good turn out from the Provincial Prior's Bodyguard under the command of E Kt Chris Allan. Brandling had the foresight to provide an excellent and informative evening by arranging for a lecture from E Kt John Patterson of St George of Throckley Preceptory on the history of St George (the person, not the Preceptory!) and in his inimitable style he presented a superbly researched talk on the man who, from his early beginnings as Roman soldier under Diocletian, became one of the most venerated Christian Saints after his execution for his refusal

On Tuesday 20th March, Officers of the Provincial Priory of Northumberland, led by the Sub Prior, E Kt Kevin Stannard, made the first of this year's official visits, on this occasion to Brandling Preceptory No. 239.

Although few in number, the Knights of Brandling Preceptory were pleased to be supported by so many of the Provincial Officers and especially a very good turn out from the Provincial Prior's Bodyguard under the command of E Kt Chris Allan.

Brandling had the foresight to provide an excellent and informative evening by arranging for a lecture from E Kt John Patterson of St George of Throckley Preceptory on the history of St George (the person, not the Preceptory!) and in his inimitable style he presented a superbly researched talk on the man who, from his early beginnings as  Roman soldier under Diocletian, became one of the most venerated Christian Saints after his execution for his refusal to renounce his faith. He is celebrated across the world in numerous countries, cities, professions and organisations who claim him as their patron Saint, and he is remembered on his memorial day of April 23rd.
